Per KC Johnson...the Huges to the Knicks deal fell through (was almost complete) and the Minny Hinrich swap was turned down by the Bulls.

I would love Chris Kaman. I must also say that the only way I want Hinrich dealt is if we get cap relief and the Bulls plan on going all f***ing out in 2010 (or sooner) to get another star here. Thats it, no iffs ands or butts about it. Otherwise Hinrich is a far better player than most on here feel.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 07:09 PM) They have NO shot at winning a playoff series this year since they'd be playing one of the big 3 if they make it. As for Salmons being Gordon insurance, that's probably true, but Salmons is having a career year this year and still isn't the offensive player that Gordon is (I can't speak for Salmons defense, haven't seen him play a whole lot.) I'm not saying Salmons is better than Gordon, far from it. But if the Bulls pick up Bosh in 2010, they'll still have Salmons around (he'll probably accept his option) and you'd be talking about Salmons being either a 6th man or your starting 2 guard (yet he'd be option number 4 or 5 with Bosh/Deng/Rose all being ahead). To me that is the perfect spot to have a guy like John Salmons. Tyrus would probably be the 4th, imo. But Salmons could hit down the big 3's. I could also see a case in point for resigning Gordon if the Bulls were able to clear off enough other guys to make sure they could still make one max offer in 2010 (ie, Bosh, Amare, LBJ).

Griffey going back "home"

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 06:04 PM) The only relevance of this trade was financial reasons. By the time the Bulls are good enough to matter, Brad Miller will be too old or on another team, and John Salmons is a journeyman having a career year who turns 30 in 10 months. It's a fitting Paxson type move, some noise with minimal to no relevance. I understand that this move along with perhaps moving Kirk Hinrich tomorrow puts the Bulls in better position for the summer of 2010, but do YOU trust John Paxson to make the big, good moves then? I don't. Hopefully he'll be gone though. Miller and Solmons give the Bulls nice depth that should help them make the playoffs both this year and next year though, plus Salmons gives them a guard for next season when Gordon leaves (assuming he does leave).

Dayan Viciedo's nick - "The Cuban pimp"?
It's just not that easy to forge documents anymore so I'd think that the proper age is on there.

There is also a rumor floating that Thabo will be traded for Noah Lowry or Jaryd Blayless. Not certain how much truth there is to this, but if the Bulls move Hinrich they will have a need for a PG of some sort and either on of these guys would be nice fits behind Rose. Plus Salmons comes in as a lengthier 2 guard and that is the one thing Sef currently possesses that none of the other Bulls guards do (aside from Hughes).

From ESPN http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?p...kRoundup-090218 I'm not going to lie, Bosh teaming up with Deng/Thomas/Noah/Rose would be pretty badass.

No offense to the Bulls but if they had the caproom for lebron and they didn't make an effort to sign him i'd be f***ing pissed. The money is the same for Lebron or Bosh (the reality is it would be) and LBJ might be the best player in the NBA at that point. You clearly make a run at him. I guess the other theory would be that you don't get burned banking on LBJ and than lose out on him while realizing all of the other options have already signed elsewhere.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) They want to go after Bosh or Stoudemire. From a very good source, they don't want Lebron or Wade because they want Rose to have the ball as much as possible. I'd be really content with a 2010 front line of Bosh or Stoudemire, TT, and Noah.

They might instead opt to hold onto Kirk Hinrich until the off-season and than move him for expiring deals (plus Phoenix covets Hinrich so that could still give them leverage to pull off a deal for Amare if he becomes available again). Hinrich could than help the bulls make the playoffs this year and potentially even up his trade value.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
If the Bulls pulled off those trades, they just became the front-runners, along with the Knicks to land at least one of the big name players. Wade or Lebron would look fantastic in Chicago but you also always have the option of Bosh/Amare. Plus if the Bulls wanted to, they could do sign and trades or even flat out pull off a trade next deadline to land one of those guys early and than negotiate another max contract.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
Sam Smith just nixed the Kirk Hinrich for expiring rumor. However, if the Bulls are able to get a draft pick (maybe top 5 or 7 protected from Minny) than I think that would be enough (on top of the expiring contracts) to make something happen.

Official 2008-2009 NBA Thread
Plus if that Hughes trade went down you'd be getting two different expiring deals which makes it easier to pull of a blockbuster trade if the Bulls eventually decide they'd rather make a big move at next years trade deadline to get that final piece. If Pax can pull this s*** off, he'll be looking really f***ing good in my eyes.

Another rumor per David Aldridge Hughes contract is an asset in terms of 2010 but in this deal they would still be okay for 2010. Basically put if they pull this and the Hinrich deals off (combined with the trade already made) and the team will be essentially set to add in the missing piece in 2010 (ie the star to go along Rose which would move Deng to the ideal 3rd scorer spot and hopefully Tyrus and Noah have developed into a nice 4/5.

Ex-Jenks teammate rips him in SI
QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) It's unlikely McCarthy ever participated in an Angels spring training. He played in college (at Yale) in 2002. Their season ends around April 25th. Then after getting drafted, he was assigned to a rookie league that began play in late June. Meanwhile, Jenks was in a full season league that year that started in early April. So, where would their paths have crossed? Jenks said he has never met the guy and has no idea who he is. So, it seems like McCarthy is simply embellishing things he may have heard and acting like he was there... which appears to be a lie designed to help sell his book... and nothing more. All of the minor leaguers will be out at spring training and than the guys that end up playing in short-season stick around and play in extended spring training (which is supposed to be just awful). extended spring is also where minor leaguers who are still rehabbing stay as well.

Big Bad Bobby Jenks is a-ok in my book. He's really turned into a class act and I hope that right arm of his stays healthy for a long time and that he sets some save records with the White Sox!!!
