site back (again)
Thank goodness it's back. I want to thank Kapkomet for getting everything straightened out. The outage happened at probably as bad of a time as possible since I had surgery this week (just prior to the outage) than my girlfriend had surgery on Thursday (wrist) and clearly getting onto a computer was not a priority. Kap also was under the weather as well but was able to get in contact with the people necessary to get the issue resolved. So now that the site's back, Kenny can finally announce his next slew of moves

Ravens driving for the kill here, Dolphins make a big stop on 3rd down and Ravens will punt and likely pin the Phins back.

Former agent J. Moorad to buy controlling share in Pads
Moorad did a great job in Arizona and I think he'll be a welcome addition as the face man of a group that buys the Pads (my favorite NL team).

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) Thats one benefit though, that the level of talent he will recruit will most likely stay in his system for multiple years which makes it possible to keep a program at a high level and also to teach your system to perfection. Yep, thats why I think in time Iowa will consistently be an above average big ten team (because Lick will consistently have senior leadership on his squads and not have to go through any heavy rebuilding period due to players leaving early for the pro's). Now you obviously hope that he'll be able to land an above average (ie high 4 star to low 5 star recruit) every couple of years but that won't happen until Iowa can get themselves back on the basketball map. I do believe they are headed in the right direction and I ultimately hope Lick goes the route of a Ryan at Wisconsin who has turned Wiscy into one of the best coached teams in the nation who can win despite not always having top talent (albeit Devin Harris was ridiculous).

MLB Network
Finally got around to checking my guide and its there which is cool. Drays Phillies world series game is on right now. I'm assuming Cox will pick up the HD feed around the start of baseball season since there probably isn't going to be a ton of programming till spring training. I'm guessing it'll start with the network televising a ton of World Baseball Classic Games.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jan 4, 2009 -> 09:49 AM) Lickliter, especially in Iowa City, will never assemble the talent that Jerrance Howa....err, "Bruce Weber" is assembling at Illinois, so it's kind of a moot point to argue who is the better game coach between the two of them. As of now I'll agree with you on that. I don't know if Lick will be able to recruit good enough but they have a pretty nice looking crop of young players, all of which should be around for 4 years.

Mystery
Yea, if it was a friend they've pushed the line. I think its more likely its some young kid who lives in your neighborhood that stole your information and has decided to have some fun at your expense not realizing the consequences. That would be my guess. Maybe it isn't even a kid but its not someone trying to take your money more doing something they think is funny.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 02:06 PM) BTW, I cant believe you snuck this post through the Illini buzzsaw. I was waiting for a comment. Weber is solid and I'm not about to say that Lick is going to be more successful because Weber has been very sucessful but as a pure coach I'll take Lick.

Andruw Jones to the Sox??
QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Jan 3, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) That fact that his contract is now deferred (interest free over the next 6 seasons) makes him a lot more appealing in a trade, but I would think LAD is still going to pick up some of the cash. Scott Boras is a magician for getting Jones that deal in the first place. Deferred or not, someone is going to have to pay that money sooner or later and no one is going to claim Jones off waivers. He'll get released and than someone will give him the major league minimum, imo.

Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
There is obviously some smoke to this deal but I don't buy that the O's would actually demand more. Than again they've asked the world for Roberts and I've never quite grasped why but none of this makes sense. The Sox are bumping the payroll limits yet they are going to take on salary and extend Roberts (as the rumor indicates the Sox would want to extend Brian) and than the club would open up a hole in the rotation which couldn't be replaced in house (unless you really want to f***ing suck) so your going to have to add more payroll (or trade Dye or Paulie for prospects and open up offensive holes which would need to be addressed with more payroll). Bottom line this s*** doesn't pass the smell test.

Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) Sure, if he brings Mora with him... The one thing about this rumor is I wonder if Kenny could be thinking about selling high ala Esteban Loiaza? One big difference, Kenny wasn't truly selling high on Loaiza (if he was he would have dealt him after his 20 win season and not after he was already on the downside). He still was able to get a raw talent in Contreras but we were also talking about a deal involving two guys of similar ages. Floyd is younger and far cheaper. If the Sox are going to get Roberts it better be involving Poreda/Fields and not Floyd.

Gavin Floyd for Brian Roberts discussed
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) Floyd had his 2 worst months ERA wise in August and September. He could have been tiring or maybe they were catching up to what he was doing. Danks was awful the second half of 2007 so it could be the former. I'm not sold on Floyd and I like Roberts. If he were a White Sox in 2008 and Ramirez played CF, this team would have been one of the most exciting White Sox teams ever. But even with all that, Floyd for Roberts makes zero sense for the White Sox. They don't have the major league ready pitching depth to give up another 200 innings. The Sox already have two question-marks pencilled into the rotation and moving Floyd would make it a third and it would take a s***load of luck for Marquez/Richard/Poreda (who I'm assuming would be the 3-4-5) to combine for an ERA under 5.5 which means no matter how good the offense would be we'd still be an awful club. Floyd is young, cheap and has a pretty effortless delivery and the potential to be a pretty good #2/#3 pitcher so there is no way I move him for a 30 year old 2B who is going to be a FA at the end of the year. The move also makes zero sense given KW's plan to rebuild (well more like re-tool and get younger). It does fit in with the speed approach though. Plus if your going to bring in Roberts and his salary the Sox would have just been better off going after Hudson or Furcal.

I still think when the dust settles Homer Bailey will be a White Sox.

Andruw Jones to the Sox??
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) Andruw's historical numbers are worth much more than that, no matter how bad he is now. Jones could get put on waivers and no team would touch him. The only reason the Sox would have to give up anything is because the Dodgers would be sending significant cash back to the White Sox or taking on some sort of bad contract and I can't think of any really bad contracts currently on the roster.

Andruw Jones to the Sox??
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Simers is smoking something. #1 The Sox don't have young pitching. #2 Jones isn't worth young pitching. #3 The Sox are short pitchers enough as it is. Technically the Sox have a lot of AAAA type of pitching prospects that I'm sure the Dodgers wouldn't mind getting in exchange for Jones. I would be shocked if we were talking about top prospects getting moved here.

Andruw Jones to the Sox??
QUOTE (SOXOBAMA @ Jan 2, 2009 -> 07:35 PM) TJ Simers was on the radio here in LA was talking about the Jones contract.. He reported that the Sox are the heavy favorite to get Andruw Jones for young pitching coming back to LA.. I know this will surprise a lot of people but I would trade for Andruw Jones and I'd be willing to give up the Broadway's of the world. I would not be willing to give up some of our better prospects and I would also expect to receive significant cash in return. I believe Jones will have a better season and that he is still an above average centerfielder. All that said Jones doesn't make sense unless the Sox make some other moves.

Bridgeport Neighborhood
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jan 1, 2009 -> 11:00 PM) Long story short, my girlfriend plans on moving and Bridgeport is one of the areas she's thinking about. I've heard mixed things about Bridgeport, however in terms of how safe it is and such. She does have a child so that would be a huge concern. I wanted to call on you fellow Chicagoans and former ones to give me a bit of info. Hey nine...ask Molto or Shipps. They both live in Bridgeport and are very familiar with the area.

It's about my penis...
Oh my god....I saw the thread title in the admin board with "penis" in it and I was like dang, looks like an interesting thread. Little did I know it was I that was the author of such thread. I must admit, I'm shocked at the serious answers. However, Andrew was right about my account being hacked. I was logged into Soxtalk over at Mario (Molto) and Jeff's place (Shipps) which is where I was staying the past few days. Clearly one of them realized I was still signed in and made what I think might be the funniest thread I've ever seen on this site
