f*** no...its a holiday for us. I plan on taking my staff out to lunch at 11:30 for some food and drinks and we'll head in around 1 and call it a day.

Justin Turner is a poor mans version of Pedroia/Eckstein. Hell of a player in college at Fullerton. I'd rather look at Danny Dorn who has some power potential but not the greatest average (another former Titan).
-
I got news for you...the Angels could probably afford both Tex and Sabathia. They'll jump on Sabathia and than see what ends up going on with Tex and decide whether they'll get him or not.

Brees still has the Bears on the schedule too...he might throw for 700 yards in that game. Oh and don't tell me the Bears have a pass rush until it shows up consistently against teams without one of the worse olines over the past 5 years. -
Bailey's value has significantly declined so I'd be hesitant at any deal centered around him involving a player of Dye's status. There is no doubting his talent but his velocity has been very inconsistent the past season to season and a half and with that his prospect status has crashed like the market. There is still a lot of raw potential and a great frame on his body but what causes the constant variations in velocity is something to be concerned with. Reds have a pretty solid system though so there could be another guy of value that could make the deal worthy. I don't believe Ryan Freel is that guy, although I think he'd be a nice piece to get, he isn't the type of guy you build a deal around Dye for (nor is Homer Bailey). Both would be secondary chips in my book.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 25, 2008 -> 11:48 AM) I hadn't seen that you said that. I gotta give you credit, you were dead on about Dayan. I quietly believe the Sox plan is to have Alexei in CF and Furcal at SS.

Will the White Sox offer arb. to Uribe and Cabrera?
Chisoxfn replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'd say yes on OC, but I Doubt they do it with Uribe. THey would have had they not already acquired Betemeit. Kind of stinks because it now means they are only going to get draft pick compensation for one player, OC, as opposed to potentially two (Uribe & OC). Griffey obviously won't get arbitration offered to him. -
Sox make offer to free agent pitcher Odalis Perez
Chisoxfn replied to RockRaines's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't buy the Sox making the offer, unless its as a reliever/spot starter or just a pure insurance plan which enables them to move Javy without getting a starting pitcher back. -
Kind of funny that the Sox have a higher payroll than the Cubs and Dodgers. I'm calling a bit of BS on that though as I believe the Sox payroll was significantly less than that. I'm thinking they are somehow factoring all of Griffey's contract into the Sox and some other things. I believe it was much closer to 100M when you factor in the cash and everything (but I could be completely wrong).

The Sox payroll was 120M last year?

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 05:05 PM) Housh is an UFA after the year. Boldin might be traded, too. I want no part of Chad. You laugh at Tebow's pro potential, but then you mention Daniel's pro potential as being legit. Brown is a stud, but I'd prefer Michael Johnson (GT, DE) over Brown in the 1st. I'd take Taylor Mays (USC, S), Johnson, or Duke Robinson (Oklahoma, OG) in the 1st. Forte is not overrated. He's averaging 4 ypc now and he's leading all rookies in total yards. They played a better team? Fixed. I got news for you. The Bears have the worse wide-receiving corps in the NFL, so yes, WR is easily one of there biggest needs. The defensive problems are primarily due to a lack of pass-rush and I'd direct that at the ends, thus making the DE position a huge need. After that I think you'd point towards the oline and safety well before I'd point at the LB corps (Briggs/Urlacher are both above average LB's...Briggs might be the best OLB in football right now). -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 01:21 PM) Wow, we’re going to be in an incredibly tough place this offseason. On one hand, the QB class is going to be incredibly strong for the next two years, on the other we have Orton who remains somewhat of a mystery to all of us. I would be fine with drafting an OL like Oher or even focusing on defense and WR, but still… Oline, WR, and DE are the three biggest needs. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 09:27 PM) I have a hard time distinguishing who the best team is between Texas, USC, Oklahoma, and Florida. I think Texas has to be ranked ahead of OU due to head to head on a neutral field, but a little round robin between those 4 would be nice. Too bad it can't happen. In regards to relevance though, Texas is in great shape to play in the Big 12 title game if BCS expert Brad Edwards of ESPN is right. He predicts Texas will be #2 and Oklahoma #4 in the BCS standings (with Florida #3) tomorrow. I'm not sure I buy that, but if he is right, I can't see any way Oklahoma can jump Texas, and the BCS standings are the 3 way tiebreaker of course in the Big 12 South. That is how it SHOULD be though, I don't care how good Oklahoma looks, Texas beat them on a neutral field and there is no way for OU to dispute that argument. USC has talent but they can't be in the same equation as those other three teams, plus Alabama because USC hasn't played s***. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 08:23 PM) Are you sure Texas wouldn't play Missouri over OU because of head-to-head victory in Dallas? It seems that the winner of the Big12 South sometimes is the team that DOESN'T have to play an extra game and expose themselves to a loss. FWIW, I think there's a good chance that OSU can beat Oklahoma, just because that game is always a toss-up no matter how good Oklahoma is...then again, the way OU is steamrolling TT today, you wonder how they blew a lead against TX. But I've been there before with Stoops teams, they were undefeated and got rolled 35-7 by Kansas State in the Championship game about 5 years ago. Shout out to my Iowa Hawkeyes and Coach Kirk Ferentz for resurrecting that program a second time in a decade...this time more do to off-field problems and recruiting stagnation. 55-0 over Minny, the 2nd worst loss at home ever for the Gophers. Wonder if the Outback Bowl would take Iowa over MSU and NU? It will be interesting, NU beat Iowa at home, but that now seems like a fluke because Iowa was in control until fumbling right before the half...and MSU was torn apart by PSU, who was just beaten at home by Iowa. I just don't see Northwestern travelling well to any game, let alone the Alamo Bowl, which has hosted the Hawkeyes many a time. Iowa lost four games this season by something like 12 points. Not saying they are a BCS team at all, but they are definitely on the way back up, although I don't think Shonn Greene has anything to gain by returning for one more year. Stoops is about to put 70 up on the board...vindication for all the doubters and bulletin board material ripping OU's defense over the last 4-5 seasons. This is a no-doubt statement game for that program, playing without their best DL. Iowa hasn't had a bad loss all season and you could make a case that they should have won every game but the Michigan State game (that was the one game where I'd say the opposition controlled them). I could also make a case for the illini game. They had Pitt and NU beat. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 06:47 PM) texas tech is just getting pounded.....ive thought the whole time that the actual best team of those 3 is oklahoma....i think texas and texas tech and even oklahoma state are a bit overrated...outside of each other those teams haven't beaten anyone.... Except Texas did beat OU. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 01:34 PM) Yeah, they actually lost a lawsuit last year for false advertising. Although I believe the vitamins help a bit. I take Zicam and it shortens the cold. Its basically just zinc I believe. Ya, when I start feeling I cold I take Zicam. Its pretty much zinc which I believe is scientifically proven to shorten the cold.

Some interesting names. Townsend (top pick who hasn't been able to stay healthy) & Veal. Plus some former highly touted players like Tony Richie, Ryan Harvey.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) Eh, if you consider December and January "awhile" then I suppose. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnerId=rss_mlb Also, Javy refuses to play for any team on the West Coast and has the no trade protection to back it up and you gotta figure the Dodgers can get better value than Javy Vazquez for an all world talent like Matt Kemp. Javy also rejected a deal to LA when the Yanks were trying to deal him, IIRC. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 23, 2008 -> 05:05 AM) Does anyone think KW may go after Edmonds to play CF? He tried trading for him last offseason and Edmonds refused, although if you hear Edmonds explaination of it, he had like an hour to decide which wasn't enough time. He was horrid with SD, but if you look at his numbers with the Cubs in 250 AB, he gives you about what you would expect Swisher, best case scenerio to give you in 150 AB even at 39. Perhaps a stop-gap solution to CF. Edmonds isn't a bad option in a platoon type role if the Sox make upgrades at other areas. -
Sounds like the type of guy you could potentially take a chance on.

It's confirmed: ChiSox signed Viciedo despite a better offer

Perez sounds much more like the type of guy you give a million to 2 million signing bonus to and call it a day. -
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 02:27 PM) I would think a trade of either Camby or Kaman is next, otherwise that's going to be a pain to split their minutes. Too bad the Bulls don't have a whole lot of bargaining chips anymore, Kaman would be a great fit. Kaman would be a great fit and would fit in with the core. I'd even trade Deng in a package for him because Deng is really not fitting into the current system (and I love Luol). Kaman/Gooden is a legit 4/5 combo with Rose a legit 1. You'd than just need to find the 2/3's and those are typically the easiest positions to fill on the court. Deng is obviously too much, but a healthy Hinrich and Tyrus Thomas or Noah plus a pick could intrigue the Clippers.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) Even without Gordon we'd be at worst a push with the Thunder. Exactly...and they might be the worse team in NBA history.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 22, 2008 -> 01:24 PM) I don't quite understand how Jenks is a better bet than Fuentes. Fuentes has been rock solid the past 4 seasons in Colorado. Jenks is legit, very legit. He's young and has phenomenal stuff. A lot of us Sox fans underestimate Bobby Jenks. I've watched Krod for years and Rodriguez has a nasty slider but I'd take Jenks over him (and there aren't many guys I'd take over Krod). Sure Krod is a bit over-rated, but he's still one of the best in the biz (Papleboner, Nathan, Rivera are 3 guys that are hands down better than Bobby/Krod/Putz).
