  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 23, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) Cheney is listed as Methodist. http://www.adherents.com/people/pc/Dick_Cheney.html George Bush is also listed as a Methodist. http://www.adherents.com/people/pb/George_W_Bush.html From what I can tell methodism and evangelicalism have similar roots. http://master.umc.org/interior.asp?mid=1648 But then again, I already covered all of this by saying: I personally dont believe he actually believes in it, and I think that he is using it to get support. But thats just my personal opinion, there really is no way to prove what he actually believes as he does not speak much on the subject. Ive tried to find information, its just not there (or I dont want to put in the necessary time as I really dont care that much.) So if you can find something that says Cheney is not a Methodist and does not believe in Methodism, feel free Id be interested to read it. Now from a Methodist Website: The problem is that it is inconclusive. It does not say one way or the other, just that its not central. So is it possible Cheney believes it? Yes Is it possible Cheney doesnt believe it? Yes What is my opinion? Cheney doesnt really believe in it, and is just using religion to get people to support him. Not sure what is so controversial about that. Because it has nothing to do with the subject of his speech the other day?
  2. QUOTE (KipWellsFan @ May 23, 2009 -> 01:32 AM) Ummmm, I kind of think Cheney is a little loonie, but jeeze... I don't think that's got a darned thing to do with it. And SS2K, well played on Al Gore. I happen to think Gore's cause is more just but I feel you. EDIT: And do you have a source for Cheney even being an evangelical? Thank you.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2009 -> 09:59 PM) Then they ought to go to jail. Right, dude, like that is ever going to happen. Let's put in Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Dennis Hastert, Bush, Cheney, Powell (OMG!), Lugar, John Kerry, Boxer, Feingold, Dodd, I could go on and on - remember these people were on the foreign relations committee and you know damn well they knew what was going on. It's only convenient to bring all this up under cover of a Democrat president, some 5-6 years later? Please. By your logic, the top 50 people (loosely defined) in our government should go to jail. Before you sit there and say "prove it", prove they didn't know. It's all a political shell game. I'll say it one more time. Move the f*** on. If you want your policy to be this, you've done it now, move on. I could play more "morality cop" but it's probably a moot point by now.
  4. QUOTE (mr_genius @ May 22, 2009 -> 09:32 PM) if you guys think the dems are clean on this stuff you really are f***ed up It doesn't give their cover for the "morality" involved. It just pains you people to no end to know that there are NO leaders in this country who didn't know what was going on. There IS NO MORAL HIGH GROUND here. When you think you are on it, guess what? You're wrong. This "what's good for me is not good for the other" s*** is what the hell is wrong with our country. Sliding scales of "morality" here is just pathetic by those who want to think they know what "morality" is. THAT is a judgement call to which no one has an exact right answer, so I'll leave that be. But I will say, these people knew what was happening. ALL OF THEM. SB, being an "evangelical" has NOTHING to do with what Dick Cheney is talking about. It's just a bad point in this debate, it's totally irrelevant, because it's not a "holy war" like NSS made it out, which is what my "give me a break" was referring to. A "new world order" doesn't have to be based on "armeggedon" as you put it, and it's not.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ May 22, 2009 -> 03:23 PM) Kap, I mean i hate to say it, but Cheney is an Evangelical. (Unless you are denying that he is one.) And part of that belief is the Rapture, Armageddon and the coming of the anti-christ. Now whether or not Cheney is actively trying to create those things is unprovable. But the fact he belongs to the religion, suggests that he wants them to happen and in order for them to happen there have to be certain occurrences (many of them extremely violent and brutal.) I have never seen him speak against any of these things. Riiiiiiiiiiight. Now let's compare Cheney to A-make-me-a-dickhead-a-jan. Again, give me a break. It makes me laugh how the "left" wants to paint this guy as the devil incarnate. The fact is, every time he's opened his mouth on something in the last couple of months, all of a sudden, Obama's relented or softened his stance. I know you all won't see it that way, but it is happening.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) With some good signings this offseason and a good trade or two, the Sox can easily reach the upper echelon of MLB teams real soon. It will be nice if that LF of ours can remind us why he would have won the MVP last season. What the hell happened to fathom?
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 22, 2009 -> 12:07 PM) I don't think they are the same. Cheney wants a holy war, involving violence, and sees that cause as higher than the Constitution or anything else. Gore's agenda doesn't include death. Give me a break.
  8. QUOTE (Y2HH @ May 22, 2009 -> 07:40 AM) That's not fantastic, what it does show, however, is that politics is still business as usual. And I don't care which side of the idiot dividing fence a person stands on -- these bills being upwards of 800 pages is downright corrupt. They're 800 pages because 90% of the contents of the bill have almost nothing to do with the title of the bill itself. This is sneaky, common practice in Washington, always has been, and still is. I call the fence dividing the dummy-craps from the republi-cant's the idiot dividing fence because anyone standing on either side of it is just that...an idiot. Until both sides comes to the realization that both parties have their merits AND flaws, we will continue to play this game, and it infuriates me. Them doing stupid juvenile s*** like hiring a speed reader which is meant to be nothing more than a huge LOL to the Republicans shows they think this thing is a f***ing joke. And on the flip side, the Republicans asking them to read this aloud, after the hundreds upon hundreds of similar bills they pushed through without having to read them aloud is equally ignorant. I'm tired of them (both sides) treating the country I live in like a joke for their own personal gain while their sheep followers watch on and take it all in as some form of f***ing entertainment.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 21, 2009 -> 04:21 PM) So...Mark 2 Market accounting sucks right? I don't know what it is.
  10. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 21, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Think the Rally Crede might sway Peavy on over? The Rally Crede died this spring. A quick and bloody death it was.

  12. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) It'll probably turn out to have been something of a bluff, but there will be major cuts, along with prison releases, etc. Frankly, as there should have been a long time ago. There were going to be significant cuts if everything passed...just a question of what gets cut. The governor is supposed to start sitting down with the legislature again this week. Although, he's been known to occasionally find better things to do. Like if you wave something shiny in front of him. Those shiny things are going to be his undoing, eventually. With that said, as CK alluded to earlier, California is now on the bailout list. New York will soon follow.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) How this hasn't gotten more press I have no idea. It's a bit long but I'm going to steal from this blog the actual text of the thing being sent to the President...what this commission is charged with. If they actually make use of their mandate, an awful lot of people could go to jail before they finish their work. Hooray! I'm glad these money grubbing capitalists are going to get what's coming to them.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2009 -> 03:54 PM) Interesting choice on who to say that to - AHB voted Obama but his views seem to align mostly with the current GOP way of doing things (social conservatives and who cares how much it costs). Powell is more aligned with the smaller government crowd that used to dominate the GOP. What? I call bulls***. He's now become a full fledged Democrat.
  15. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ May 20, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) Top 5 cities where Americans are relocating: 1. Raleigh, N.C. 2. Austin, Texas 3. Charlotte, N.C. 4. Phoenix 5. Dallas What going on in NC? Don't I know this. Actually Fort Worth is growing faster. Fort Worth is going to overtake Dallas in population this year. The metroplex is now the fourth biggest metro area in the country, it overtook Houston. Why does this matter? Because everyone visits Fort Worth
  16. QUOTE (RibbieRubarb @ May 8, 2009 -> 08:02 AM) I like girls. with big butts and I cannot lie... oh sorry. Wrong thread.
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 20, 2009 -> 10:42 AM) Off topic... This is pretty neat. Optimus Prime of Packaging. Nice.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) Can we keep our thread name? Commie Bastard.
  19. ^ This is a good thought, it really is. That's why I can say I'm personally against it, but I wouldn't judge someone who made that choice.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) If we made it so that the market priced in the negative externalities of their use, then no one would ever buy a car that got less than 40 MPG. You may have not read all the way through - I clarified that I'm not talking about the technology, I'm talking about the floating turds rolling down the highway. (i.e. these little crackerbox cars).
  21. I'm not saying the technology is a bad thing, I'm talking specifically these roller skates on wheels, as my 3 year old daughter could equate the cars to.
  22. There's other technology besides oil - that can and would support "big" cars, not these damn (stupid) (sic) cars. True story - sort of off topic. We were sitting in a Walgreens parking lot the other day. A (stupid) car drives by, and Alissa starts talking about how she wanted to go roller skating.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:33 AM) Ah yes, the paranoia from the right begins. Fuel efficiency does not mean sacrificing safety. In fact, fewer gigantic, heavy SUV's on the road will probably decrease traffic deaths. So even if an increase in smaller lighter cars ends up increasing traffic deaths (which I think is not really likely, as lighter cars are better at avoiding accidents), you have the offset on the other side. If people wanted these damn cars, they would be selling now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2009 -> 04:30 PM) Tom Hanks in "A League of their own"? That's about the same level to which the Sox have been playing lately.

QUOTE (watchtower41 @ May 19, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) I wonder what the window would be like during a recent Sox game? That would be the longest, most epic piss in history.
