  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Because nothing's more biased than showing someone's actual words as a method of proving what they said. We all know that Media Matters has CGI versions of Glenn Beck, O'Reilly, and Hannity that they use to generate their smears. Cut, edit, cut, edit, cut, copy, edit... OMG, HE HATES AMERICA! At least when most of the clowns like Rush and Hannity do something, they let the whole clip play and then comment.
  2. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) Go back and read my edit you surprised me You see, I'm now in the lowest tax bracket - so I figure everything I make I will get back this year. So, I'm all game.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) I can because he's investing in more green technologies and mass transit. For that alone it softens the blow for me. And do I need to fly down there and help you start a business in order for you to stop lurking in the Dem thread? Yes! Get down here!
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 10:05 AM) LINK You cannot sit there with a straight face and say that Obama's spending binge is "better" then GWB's spending binge. Obama's is just beginning. And all these campaign appearances by the Messiah were pretty much the equivalent of the "tea parties". But let's not ruin a good chance to bash right-leaning Americans.
  5. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) Its the idea he told his constituents: "I didnt trust the banks and wanted all my money in cash". Not good. On Sept. 17, we saw a run. If that was the only information you had, you would do the same... and it's past tense. But that's ok, GOP fearmongering sucks, Dem fearmongering = ok.
  6. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) I bet George Soros or Warren Buffet could sink a few banks if they wanted to. IMO George Soros tried last week by screaming how bad everything sucks in the world. You know this guy is short and has lost a s***load of money on this runup. He wants a loss so he can reap his short position.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 11:27 PM) let's get more no spending cartoons from the 1930s Now let's not drag other threads into this.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Not sure why I did this but I just looked up 2 Girls 1 Cup and watched it again. I completely forgot how horrifying it was. Could it be all this talking about teabagging?
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 10:16 PM) Bottom line, I don't trust either party when it comes to paying the nation's bills. Neither do I. That's why I'm so damn cynical about our entire government. And when someone wants to make it bigger bigger bigger, I don't give a s*** what party you are, it's out of control. The government was never meant to provide all this s*** for us. f*** a "living and breathing" constitution. I want a government that was envisioned by the forefathers with the necessary constitutional amendments when called for. There's a reason there's only 27 amendments (and why they are so hard to get through)... and not this judicial / legislative / executive tango to circumvent it.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 10:06 PM) Kind of beside the point I was making. Lower taxes + reduced spending = good Lower taxes + same basic budget as a Democrat - a couple of earmarks for the day's news cycle = destructive, hypocritical, borderline retarded Today's GOP leans much closer to the second (even if they swear they don't) than the first. And actually has for pretty much my whole life. Which is why they got their asses handed to them, and deservedly so. I wish for once that they actually had some balls and stuck to their calls for reduced spending. If they would do that and lower taxes, they would stay around a lot longer. But no, they get greedy, lie through their teeth, act like they're principled when they have no intention of being so, and get thier ass kicked, which paves the way for more bloated government thanks to Democrats. Gotta love that cycle playing out over and over again.
  11. Chat crew, unite! You will solve all problems known as the evils of soxtalk! Except Jason, he's cool. Seriously. He's cool.
  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:41 PM) ok? What are you trying to say here? And I also think that you have to give Obama an assist on the upward tick as they didn't do anything without him knowing about it.
  13. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:33 PM) Also: spending is bad if you raise taxes to pay for it, but ok if you lower taxes without lowering spending and create a gaping hole in the deficit. Until a Democrat takes over, then the actual cause of the deficit is irrelevant. Spending is bad when you spend like there's no tomorrow and you don't have the money to pay for it. The 800 lb. gorilla waiting is health care and other social programs that have no way in hell to pay for it. If you want programs like that, you better cut some spending somewhere else. Obama is like a kid in the candy store who will shoplift anything "to fix all that ails", neverminding the fact that sometime, somehow you have to pay for all this. I also think it's interesting to note: one of the bigger reasons that 1930's were also different is that you had people paying us (Europe, see WWI), well, until everyone defaulted. Funny how no one else around the world wants to spend their way out of a recession.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 09:20 PM) What an enjoyable read today in Glenn Greenwald's blog. Some highlights: What does this have to do with anything?
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) Ah, I get it now. You are DeWayne Wise. All right DeWayne, to be clear, actually like you, and I like having you on the 25-man roster. I just didn't like having you start in CF and leading off and I think you're a better player coming off the bench. Sorry for the misconception. Man, I thought the exact same thing but thought better of posting it.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) Fascinating. As part of the transition to becoming a "Bank holding company" so that they could receive the TARP funds, Goldman Sachs had to change the schedule it operates on. Previously, their quarters would start on December 1, now they had to start on Jan 1. So...the last quarter they reported last year was September - November, and they just reported those solid numbers for January through March. An erudite reader might wonder...what happened to December. Turns out...they took a ton of losses and accounted for them in December. And it also seems that they received a crapload of government money from the AIG bailout in December. That's one way to make your books look better. I hear what you're trying to imply, but I don't think this is a shennanigans thing... I guess I could quit being lazy and go look at their 10Q.
  17. I'm telling you, it stinks. I think I might go do some investigative reporting when the Sox come to town. I might try to get some behind the plate tickets so I can watch what the batters see. "Back and to the left... back and to the left... back and to the left..."
  18. QUOTE (jamesdiego @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Deweeezy blew off all the racism talk, he's just glad he doesn't play on the Northside. And he was hurt by the boos, but knows it was just fanboys who collect Anderson's underwear. Once they figure out the truth about Brian, Deweezy will be making his revenge tour on the Southside. Those who doubted him will be shamed. And Pods better than Wise? Thats pathetic, especially by those who arguing like hell that they actually cared about defense. Ok, great contribution. Although Pods sucks way worse then DW at defense, I'll give you that.
  19. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) Maybe they can score a ton at home because it's normally 70+ degrees down there. They then travel to Detroit, where it's been cold of late, and don't produce. The cold weather effects a lot of players. I imagine it would have a huge difference, especially for a team that plays in Texas. Just saying. The weather here hasn't really been all that warm so far. In fact, opening day for them last week it was in the 50's with a 30 mph wind blowing in at game time. I know that the stadium makes some difference. But to me, it seems like just a little too much. It is nice tonight - 76 degrees right now and no wind at all.
  20. QUOTE (Capn12 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Maybe so in some folks eyes. But this isn't about what each of them can do OFFENSIVELY. There are plenty of guys on this team that can rake offensively. The problem is, defensively, up the middle is still a pretty big question mark. Facts are facts: I'll take a .240 hitting BA in CF than a .270 maybe hitting Pods in CF with his spaghetti arm and clueless deer approach in the field. We figured you'd be happy. I'm glad to see your avy back. It reminds me how much I didn't like the post-2005 Pods. Hopefully he's rehabbed his groin with his wife enough to be effective...
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 06:07 PM) Don't necessarily agree with everything he says, especially on the bank bailouts, but I think the President's speech today is a solid argument. Yea, I agree. We are too stupid, us Americans, by saving and the government needs to rescue us by spending the money we should be spending. Or something. I still do not believe you can "spend" your way out of a recession. Not long term. Of course this "stimulus" will give us some short term GDP growth but it will not be sustained and at some point, double digit inflation has to take hold. Then what? At least in the 1930's there was production to back up some of the spending - in other words, the market could finally take hold and produce something. What do we have today? China makes everything we have, and what is going to replace this government spending? Answer: nothing.
  22. Further thought: the reason China doesn't want them "free" is there's another poopload of untapped labor there and they'd lose out. Right, or wrong?
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) I don't know what you call it, but you certainly seem a lot more unhappy with the current policy than I am. I don't like it, I think they need to do some surgical air strikes at the right time... but then the Chinese wouldn't take that, now would they? They (China) should like it. If Korea were united and trade were to flourish, China would make the most out of anyone. Anyway, I think giving in and then letting him throw his fit and then giving in and then letting him throw his fit... over and over again, is quite counterproductive. This all started with Mr. Clinton, and the whole thing has taught Mr. Nutsack over there that if he keeps doing this, he'll always get what he wants.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 04:00 PM) But you know what? In this case, I'm not the one obsessing over the fact that what we're currently doing isn't working perfectly. Neither am I?
  25. You know what's funny? Every time I see that from you, you just ask the question and never have anything better, either. If I were that damn smart, I wouldn't be here posting bulls*** comments for the peanut gallery. It's like criticizing GWB every day and having no solutions except Comedy Central, and all the :notworthy that goes with it.
