The Official "Please Acquire Elijah Dukes" Thread

But we're desparate and will overpay. Or something. I sure hope not. -
QUOTE (Tmar @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 06:06 PM) Filibuster posters' faces need green. Eh, eh, am I right? Yes, and so do you, Mr. Potshot. But I have to admit, you are on a roll...

f***, I got sidetracked all to hell today... dammit.

I think it was just for opening day, that sophistication, yo. (at least it better be) EAT s*** KANSAS s***TY!

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 03:46 PM) It came on about 10 minutes after my post. That's good. I think if I were paying for that up there I'd have blown a gasket.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 02:01 PM) Well, I just found another disadvantage -- I can't watch the f***ing Sox game on CSN. It's strange, because before I clicked on the channel it came up at the bottom as a PIP with what appeared to be an ESPN bar at the top of the screen. When I clicked, it just went completely black. I have no problem with CSN when there isn't a game on. I just know this is going to be a pain in the ass problem to resolve. I should have no issues regarding blackouts, yet here I have this crap. It shouldn't be blacked out, right? Or is this the MLB bulls***? I thought local games weren't blacked out?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) What's worse, these are high paying jobs of a highly technical nature. These people are too rich. Uh huh. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 01:12 PM) Weren't the Republicans 2 months ago making an issue of how much of a waste that was? It's better stimulus than a tax cut, but just like all defense spending, its actual value to the country's future is limited. One thing that is right about your comment is you absolutely should not "save" these people for the sake of a program that really isn't needed. However, the merits of "needed" is highly debateable. And I'm not saying it is or it isn't of value. It's just the point that these are indeed high paying jobs.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 11:54 AM) This thread is why cranky buster boys need to stay in the buster. You had to come here three days later to say this? I'll just refrain from saying what I'm thinking for the sake of the already screwed up thread. It is, however, quite funny that it all ended up ok and you have to come here to fling more s***.

There are 9000 employees in Fort Worth LM plant... they were all told that if the F-22 goes... a lot of them could be gone. I'm so excited about that, I can't tell you how happy that makes me!

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 08:07 AM) If you think there is a possibility that this could be authentic, check out the copyright info at the bottom I missed that yesterday. I knew it was a spoof, but that's funnier.

It might be the loniest thread in the history of soxtalk.

IAM (shipps) going to do my mark to market accounting post today, just because I'm in that mood. I have a doctor's appointment that I'm leaving for now, and when I come back after watching the kiddos for a while, I will banquish myself to upstairs and write it out. Here's hoping for no distractions.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) FYI: I've been ding some more searching. Uverse uses HomePNA which is basically IP (ethernet) over coax. So, in reality, as long as all the componants are connected with coax, you dont need to run ethernet. That makes sense. But I think if you run ethernet from the gateway to the set top box, then that's the ftp thing I keep talking about. As far as getting to the gateway, you're exactly right.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 10:48 PM) Basically, the whole townhome ifs pre-wired for phone. but there is no ethernet or coax. There is SOME coax that was installed by the previous owners who used Dish. So, I might be able to reuse some of it. They'll run what you need. I would suggest ethernet if they will run it just in case the whole ftp settop box prediction comes true because that's major sweet if they really do that.
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 10:16 PM) hmmm.. ok. interesting. i dont really have the option to run ethernet from our family room to the office. that may be a problem. well, let me clarify that. Do you currently run cable? If so, then you could set the gateway up where you have your office, and they can reroute back to the box where your tv is. I will say this for your FYI. One of the things that ATT Uverse is rumoring is that you can actually ftp into your settop box... which of course would probably require ethernet (but I'm not entirely sure). I would LOVE to be able to ftp into my set top box... .
-
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 10:09 PM) Question on the install, do they just use the existing telephone lines to connect up all the set-top boxes? Or do you need ethernet cable run? You will need to run ethernet - if you don't have it they will do what they need to... for video you can use regular tv cable.

I have it. The HD isn't quite as good because they do a compression that makes the HD somewhat pixelly on basketball in particular, I've noticed. It's weird because football, baseball, hockey I don't notice it but basketball, every game I've watched it pixelates. (I hope those are words, ) The service is pretty good from my experience, but others have had some problems from those who I have talked to. Not huge problems, but problems that took a bit to resolve. The internet - they give you a gateway - I figured out how to put a router behind theirs - which everyone but me seems to have issues with that. It was a b**** but I figured it out because I have wireless N and I wasn't about to go back to wireless G. It took me hours to get it to work right. I've streamed netflix and all that, it does pretty well. Their channel selection has been getting a lot better as they've gotten bigger.

That's been almost 5 years ago? Time flies.

It wasn't meant to be April Fools, just a satire, but I love it. And, that JR quote at the end... Tito just posted it and the "what he brought to the city of Birmingham..." - that had me rolling.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 06:31 PM) Didn't you JUST get on Obama like a couple days ago for breaking protocol with foreign heads of state? For not respecting their level of office? You are seriously getting to the point of being obsessive, man. Protocol is not bowing. Did the other heads of state bow to him? No. I'll start it now. HE IS A MUSLIM! But ... my point is who in the hell is teaching him the proper protocols? It's one continuous blunder, imo. You don't show subserviance (if that's a word) like this. Everyone knows that it is a subserviant thing to do in the middle east. He might not have meant it that way, but you have to know your protocols. ETA: Oh, I just thought of one more... THANK YOU for your funds in helping me get elected. Again, GREEEEEEEEN... but it's fun.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) At some level, yes. Changes in atmospheric pressure can affect how rapidly the planet degasses. You have a rainy day or a low/high pressure day and that can actually change the rate of radon coming out of the ground. Probably isn't significant enough to drive changes in much of anything other than degassing, it's usually not going to trigger a fault, but when you get beyond that...there are fairly well established correlations between earthquake occurrence and the tidal cycle, for example. Was there some relationship of tidal cycle that had something to do with the tsunami three years ago? I remember hearing something about that but can't quite remember the details... something about those deep sea earthquakes occur much more frequently on the tidal cycle (pull of moon is greater).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) The problem with saying that earthquake swarms are going to be a precursor to a larger event is that it's a crapshoot. In some cases, a swarm of smaller events can certainly presage or even cause a larger event. On the other hand, a swarm of smaller events can actually wind up releasing some of the stress and could delay a larger event if a fault was primed for one. Couple random examples...the fault system that creates the San Andreas produced an earthquake swarm in the Cerro Prieto area of Northern Mexico but it never produced anything larger than a magnitude 5 event in that case. There's been a bizarre earthquake swarm near Reno for the last year or so, but again, nothing larger. About 2 weeks ago an earthquake swarm started on the Southern part of the San Andreas in the Salton Sea area (we actually had a class out there at the time) and it made some noise in the press & local fire departments were notified, but so far nothing. 3 months from now that segment could break and it could be directly related to them, the fault could sit idle for 20 years and then go with no warning, or the fault could rupture at some other point tomorrow and it might not have anything to do with that swarm. If you run around saying that a swarm is a precursor to a larger event, especially if you're familiar with a fault, there's going to be a reasonable chance you'll be right, but there's probably a much larger chance you'll be wrong. What about radon gas before the earthquake? I think that is what this scientist was basing his "predictions" on as well as the swarms. Is there any link?
