Sadly, I'm sure that many on this board will agree that this program needed the curtain call.

Everyone, we will be offline for a while tonight. This will start shortly. We're trying to get some things fixed on here, and what will happen is you can probably read but not post while the updates are being performed. If this times out while you're posting, that's why. Kap

QUOTE(shoota @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 11:22 PM) I'm glad the Sox were finally able to win 9 straight after not being able to get past 8 consecutive wins the past two years, but should it count? 8 of the 9 wins came against the inferior National League, which isn't even in the same league as the Sox--literally. Why do you start these (insert insensitive comment here) threads?

Iraq in Miserable State, Ambassador Memo says
kapkomet replied to Gregory Pratt's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 24, 2006 -> 02:54 AM) I'm not trying to be preachy, I know you "get it". (And I never said anything about "thousands of years" -- sometimes it just takes one generation.) Let me put it as a question -- What does the administration plan to do while waiting to make coexistence happen? If nothing more than hold elections (which is all I see), is it just a question of having the guts to wait it out? If we wait 20 years, would everyone get along by then? 50 years? I just don't think guts has anything to do with it. By extension, how long do we wait for the Pali's and Isreal to 'co-exist'? It's sort of the same thing. Americans are too wishy-washy to stomach any sticky political situation, as exhibited by damn near everything that's happening in politics in this country. No one wants to "give-in" because they're always right. It's a sad commentary of humanity. -

Iraq in Miserable State, Ambassador Memo says

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 10:32 PM) Even if we do, there's nothing to suggest that "time" alone will do anything. The factions in Iraq aren't just going to forget their differences if we wait them out. But I've heard nothing but platitudes about resolving these differences, nothing that we would actually do in any length of time. Let me rephrase. Americans won't have the guts to wait for the factions in Iraq to co-exist. I know, they've been fighting for thousands of years. I get it. -

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 07:51 PM) You can not "advocate reconciliation" -- reconciliation is a goal; you can advocate actions that may lead to that goal, but not the goal itself. It's an important distinction, I think. Not that the Administration has a good plan for reconciliation. They seem to believe that a couple elections will erase every difference, which is just silly. But this (reconciliation) strikes me as the crucial goal in Iraq, and I haven't seen one convincing path to that goal from either party. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any country with similar divisions that has achieved a peaceful, stable democracy in a transition period of less than 10 years. This underscores how difficult, how massive this task may potentially be. Until I see a plan that acknowledges that, I won't believe anyone in government is dedicated to finishing the job in Iraq "the right way". It absolutely will take time, and Americans do not have the guts for it to work over the amount of time it will take to really make it. -
I'm sure some of you have seen this, but it's still funny.

QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) I heard a cub fan call us the "oakland raider fans" of baseball. I laughed, never heard that comparison before I did a long, long time ago. -
I see this thread got closed. Look, people, this rampant nitpicking crap needs to stop. Everyone doesn't have to be right about everything all of the time. Sometimes, the IDEA of a post is more what it's about, not the exact phrasiology (I like making up words) ... and to tear people down over semantics is just plain stupid. Everyone here knew what points were being made, and it just kept on to be 'right'. If people want to do that, we'll just get rid of this forum altogether. I don't think that needs to happen, but the stupidity of this thread makes this place a whole lot worse. If you notice, that's why the media threads (thanks Rex for the reminder here) were stopped. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 01:42 PM) Yes, I remember John Kerry's sing "Give Peace a Chance" plank in his foreign policy platform well. In 2004, he didn't say that, exactly, but he ran as the 'anti-war' candidate, and he's even more on that bridge now. In fact, so much so, that most of the Dems are distancing themselves from him because they think he's a tool. -
WHO CARES? Talk to me on or about October 25th who's the #1 team. Until then, this don't mean a damn thing.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) FYI, I won the auction Monday at about noon, I got the camera from UPS on Thursday. Seriously if anyone ever is serious about buying a kodak digital camera, this is the only way to go. Sorry dude, I never looked for the receipt at all.

Yea, change the signs after you get shelled for 11 in one inning, if you think that. Gees. -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 23, 2006 -> 12:09 PM) So Brown could end up in Charlotte now. And we've all been waiting for this day. Isiah Thomas to crash and burn in the mess he made. I hope the Knicks go 0-82, and Chicago gets the #1 pick to add even more fuel to the "ISIAH SUCKS" crowd. The guy is a bafoon, he's ruined EVERYTHING he's touched once he left the basketball court.

In fact, given history, don't take it to pm's. Just leave it alone.

I had said repeatedly that Hangar was on thin ice concerning the media watches, if he couldn't supply answers for legitimate concerns, and so here we are. Start your blog, Hangar. That gives you a medium, and we'll give you the appropriate coverage that way. You couldn't answer the questions, and you CHOSE to ignore legitimate concerns. Therefore, you've used up your welcome here concerning this issue. You're welcome to post on other issues, but not this one. Thanks to all for enduring, and yes even you, Hangar, for bringing it up... but the legitimacy we have, if nothing else, must be preserved. Passing off opinion as fact, eventually doesn't work here.
-
CRICKETS, BABY!!!!!!!! Hangar, this is what I'm talking about. You can't post with the big boys, if you can't answer some of this. If you want to have any validity at all, you better come up with some answers, even if you answer then that some of them is your opinion. Otherwise, your posts are all bull.
