If you look at profit percentages as a percent of revenue, it's roughly the same as some of these other companies and industries that ss2k put down. Microsoft has us by the balls just as much as the gas companies do, albiet in a different way. Think about it.

I see you posting, Flaxx... Seriously, I know part of this is old news. In fact, a lot of it is. The truth of the matter is everyone is EQUALLY to blame on the failures of this. But, it's convenient to throw water on the administration who decided to act on it more decisively then lobbing bombs on them once in a while to make headlines.

Amazing how quiet this thread is. I wonder why? If this were a thread about George W. Bush's lies, it'd be at 600 pages by now, dotting the I's and crossing the T's and also giving us updates on whether or not he was lying about taking a s*** in the oval office toilet. Was that a two inch turd, or a six inch turd? Would you testify to that under oath, sir?

QUOTE(hi8is @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 06:02 PM) im guessing you republican on non partisen I tend to agree more with Republicans, but they are both ripe for the picking. They all suck right now.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 05:41 PM) Here's the odd little part...the Democrats wanted to have those Execs testify under oath. The Republicans refused. It's almost as if the Republicans want them to be able to get away with not telling the whole truth. But that couldn't be it, could it? What good would it have done? It wouldn't change anything that's going on there. All this is - is a big dog and pony show by Congress to APPEAR like they're concerned. They don't give a s***, and that's why it's not under oath, and it doesn't really matter. And those Dems that called for it are doing nothing but adding gas (expensive at that) to the fire to appear to the people like they're against the BIG OIL MEN. What BS.

YEA! I'm famous, clear down in Austin.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Nov 9, 2005 -> 07:21 AM) Funny thing, but the home field advantage didn't come into play. If fact, it prevented the Sox from winning the Series at home. That's one way to look at it, but without the jump they got at home in all of the series, would they have won? The crowd DEFINITELY gave them a lift when they needed it, and the first two games of any playoff series is important. Yea, this team had (DAMN I hate that!! HAD!!) a swaggar on the road, no doubt, but winning at home eased the urgency on the road so they could just play ball. And that was well worth it, to me.

"I fight for what I think is right. In doing so, I alientated a lot of my fans and my teammates," he said. AND HE STILL DIDN'T SAY HE WAS WRONG! OMG, what a TOOL!

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) I think I am about to retire my lucky hat. I wore it for the day I was married, the Sox won the World Series, and my baby was born. It is falling apart now with the stitching coming up on the bill, and it is a dirty, dirty shade of brown. OMG! Did the world just stop spinning, and I didn't feel it? It had to of. The world just ended folks! Run for your lives!

FlaxxJim, you're right. That's also why Scooter should just plea and get it overwith, whether he did it or not. The last time I checked, this trial is going to be VERY public, and MASSIVE amounts of documents that are "private" to the White House are going to be aired out, so no matter what, they all lose. Gotta love our government.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 06:27 PM) You know, it's funny because we have all these debates, and I would say I'm much more libertarian then conservative, according to the true "political scale". I can't stand government telling us what we can and can't do. I understand that part of it is societal and it has to be or anarchy will take over, but damn... stay out of our private lives! Note to the Christian Conservatives. WE DO NOT NEED A DAMN BAN ON GAY MARRAIGE. Practice what you preach, and things will be fine.

I'm an ignorant and uneducated American who is too stuck on myself to vote. It doesn't matter anyway. (brought to you by Kap's who gives a s*** enterprise) I voted for everything except the damn gay marriage prop on our ballot. I wasn't going to vote for that because I don't feel like it's government's place to tell us whether or not they can be married or not legally. The only other thing on the ballot was some local stuff.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 04:35 AM) Isn't it interesting that when we have a well spoken liberal that can hang with Nuke and Kap, she gets attacked. Once again, liberals don't stand a chance around here. :headshake That has nothing to do with it and you know it.

QUOTE(mr_genius @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 04:26 AM) It seems as if you are the one trying to make yourself the topic of conversation. Just an observation. Brilliant! But you're wrong. Since I'm making it so personal, I'm done playing for tonight. It's been fun. :rolly

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) I don’t need to re-read it, but I did. I see you changed your wording. It wasn’t “acquaintance” it was my “family”. And I didn’t “insinuate” anything. I made a statement of opinion. About The Thread Topic. With each post you continue to personalize this discussion, now labeling my original contribution to this thread as “shallow.” That is, you’re making a value judgement about me, the poster, not debating the topic at hand. I’m sorry to be so repetitive, but this just is really basic stuff about civil discourse. Of course you don’t have to follow “my” rules. But I hope you’ll understand if I continue to point out your misbehavior. Who do you think you are? I'm supposed to get a lecture from YOU? GMAFB. Acquaintance, family, you, who the hell ever, a PERSON YOU KNOW. You really like to twist s*** around to make yourself look right and good and wholesome. Again, get real. I see you like to play mind games to divert the real issue. It's quite cute. Let's all have a Mercy! cheer. Awwwwwwwwwwwwww. And the point was about the post - the post was shallow, until you once again had to play martyr and make yourself look like a "message board victim". Guess what? You'll lose this battle in the long run, thanks for playing.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:47 AM) It's hard for me to have to take more classes when these would fill out my course requirements on my Ph.D. Then there's that little matter of a thesis of course... Ah ha! That's really cool! Come on, dammit. Come up with that thesis. (here's where I would say something really crude, but it's not warranted, yet)...

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:42 AM) Oh sister….. What is this a tag-team? I answer you, Steff makes a wise-acre response. I respond to Steff, I get you. It should be pretty obvious that a martyr I never was, nor will be. If you'll notice your response turned the post around to what you say *I* would do if I were the victim of a similar crime and then answer with a Baloney! What sort of argument is that? Stick to the subject and YOUR OWN opinions why don’t you and there’d be less fights. Or if you prefer the fights, do it with someone else is all I’m saying. You’re just mad because you’re so dependent on expensive gasoline. :rolly Why don't you re-read the whole thing? If it was YOUR acquantance that was the victim of the original crime, you'd just say "eh, she did the time"... THAT was Steff's question, and I was reinforcing that - because your insinuation was that "meh, they served the time" was pretty shallow. Obvious, yes, but shallow, hence why the topic was brought up in the first place. And in case you hadn't noticed, it's my right to butt in any conversation I want. I'll let you figure that out on your own.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 08:18 PM) Woo-hoo...got an 86/120 on my complex analysis midterm! (This is actually good, I'm told the average was somewhere in the 70's). If I pass this class, and finish off the field trips for 1 other class, then I will officially be done with actual graded classes for the rest of my life. I thought the same thing, and now I'm getting my MBA.

QUOTE(Mercy! @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) If people choose to start thread after thread about awful people doing awful things just so everyone can make post after post agreeing what awful people they are, I have no problem with that. I do have a problem with those who immediately want to turn a neutral response such as I made into something personal, Steff. I responded to Kap’s question with what I thought was an obvious answer. If you want to post flamebait instead of discuss ideas, go annoy someone else, please. Call me old fashioned, I guess. I believe people get tried, convicted, serve their sentence and get let out. God Bless America, eh? The hard fact is that 98% of the people now in person WILL get out – including most that we consider Lifers. I guess my response to your sarcastic ad homimen would be to ask what would you recommend that the state have done differently in this PARTICULAR case? Or what would you recommend that the victim’s family do? Be waiting with a shotgun when she leaves prison? I can’t tell what you intended with your response other than to make a gratuitous insult to a fellow poster. Oh brother. First, please stop it with the "martyr" posts. I'll just leave that there. And second (to the issue of the thread), if a person is in clear violation of "jail conduct", they shouldn't be out - period. The system's messed up, and it needs to be fixed. Steff's response was exactly as it appeared, not an attack on you. What if your family member were a victim of a person like this? Oh, you'd just say, "that's the system, that's ok, they served their time". Baloney. In this PARTICULAR case, it's demonstrated that this person cannot conduct herself in normal society, so (call me old fashioned) that should be a pretty simple answer, right? I guess not. :rolly

WTF? Why do people like this get let go? So it's going to take another person DEAD for her to go back behind bars. Sick.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) Would that bring the 2000+ American soldiers, 200 or so foreign soldiers, 200 or so U.S. contractors, and various few thousand other Iraqis back to life? Would that also cut off the ample supply of recruits the war has given Al Qaeda? Would that give us our $250 billiion back? That $250 billion had to go somewhere (read: Halliburton, Exxon Mobile, etc.) to generate economic growth, come on! But forget the fact that 3,000 died in one day here. Oh wait, they're not connected. Nevermind.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 09:12 PM) We STARTED complaining the second day we had the phones. At first they told us that we had to complain to the store we bought the phones at. Then after the first month the store told us that we had to call the company and complain. Then after we started calling the company they told us because it was after the first month they couldn't do anything for us. They could sell us new phones for full price, or we could buy out of our contract for the full price of $150 a phone. We called them every couple of weeks to every month for almost a year, before they FINALLY offered to send us different phones a month before our contract was up, only if we would renew our contract for not one, but two years. Finally after a particularly long argueing session making it up three layers of management they offered to let us out of our contract for no charge. We took down the name of the person who told us that. At first she refused to give us anything more than her first name. She wouldn't give us her email address or a direct line to get ahold of her. Finally she gave us a last name after much more arguing. Of course when we got our finally bill, there were $300 in charges plus taxes in addition to our last months bill. So we called them back and the name that she gave us didn't exsist, and she hadn't noted our account for anything at all, except for the disconnection. And she didn't even note that she had ordered it. After a bunch of research and arguing the guy finally found her email address noted to something in our account. The guy even accidentally admitted that they don't always give their real names. After that the guy who was helping us had the gall to ask if we wanted to pay the final bill over the phone. We told him we wouldn't pay a dime until their was a new bill in our hands that had the correct totals for everything. It took them three days of phone calls to "find" the mystery woman, and it took another two weeks to get a corrected bill. I can't tell you how many hours we wasted trying to get ANYTHING done with them, and I will make sure I tell everyone I can my stories just to make sure no one ever makes the mistake of getting them for service. We had some of the same things happen with Cingular. Not quite that drastic, but similiar things. And their service is HORRIBLE - dropped calls ALL of the time. I dropped at least two calls per day.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 7, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) You won't hear that one from me. This one is the fault of the French, and they've had it coming for a long, long time. And I thank you. At least you have some common sense, even if we disagree on things. But I guaran-damn-tee you that somewhere in the media, George Bush will be at fault for this.
