  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 10, 2014 -> 05:32 AM) A Ramirez trade becoming less and less likely, even though from a statistical regression point, it makes some sense...clearly, he had a lot of things on his mind last year, and eventually the entire team lost focus and it snowballed or mushroomed. If the Sox were of the mind to trade him, his good season should make it more likely that he is traded. Now I don't know that they are of that mind, if for no other reason that they don't have a replacement. Beckham on the other hand is hitting much better and the Sox do have a replacement for him. But the Sox also see the need to field a competitive ML team (thank goodness). And then there is the pen....it's pitching lights out. If the Sox are of the mind to trade, the pen is where several chits may reside.
  2. QUOTE (ron883 @ May 2, 2014 -> 05:27 PM) The guy is lighting the place up like dynamite this year. He isn't getting any younger, and with the Sox if depth, they can lose him and be ok in the future. He would fetch a killing in the trade market. I think this is a no brainer if the Sox fall out of contention The trouble is that his salary is pretty high and I think we'd get a salary dump return, so not much value in trading him, especially as we don't have a good alternative. Ideally, getting De Aza to have a hot 2 months and trading him would be the way to go. But the slow start + OF injuries make that problematic. Beckham too, but slow start will preclude that. So now we're basically down to someone like Belasario, presuming he continues to pitch well.
  3. QUOTE (glangon @ May 3, 2014 -> 03:29 PM) I believe that it's Leury Garcia in case of injury...... L Garcia should start a lot in OF. Danks is a 5th OF, and Garcia is supposed to be a super Sub. Getting him work in that regard.
  4. Good lord, now people want to trade all of our prospects. We're hot now, and still 1 game over .500. Even if we eek into the playoffs, we could be like the Indians - a hot team last year that will be lucky to play .500 this year. We seriously lack pitching. And I know, Johnson is useless now because he wasn't successful the first month. Trade the veterans, not the prospects.
  5. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 06:31 PM) Noesi will probably start Scariest one yet so far this year. But, we'll se..
  6. I'd trade any of the usual mentioned guys for high end prospects or prospects with high ceiling, with some emphasis on pitching. No mediocre veterans and absolutely no middle relievers need apply.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 28, 2014 -> 09:20 AM) He has more value to us than he would in a trade. Not sure if you're just overreacting to the pitching problems in the big leagues or what, but this is a very unlikely scenario. I sure hope you wouldn't want to dump one of our only prospects with a great approach. Why would he have more value to us? Don't all organizations want prospects with great approaches. Just trade him for prospect(s) in areas of need. Certainly don't want to trade him (or anyone else) for middle relievers or mediocre veterans. But we have little top end pitching in the farm; we are flush in other areas. Seems like a good trade scenario.
  8. Trade him and/or others for young pitching.
  9. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 11:27 PM) Just watching the movement on his pitches and the way he goes after guys, he's for real I think as a legit back end rotation starter yea, I agree. That movement on his pitches suggests to me he's a step up from Axe.
  10. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 12:57 AM) Damn, our pitching turned to promising to s*** in 28 days. Our starting pitching has been razor thin since the first day of spring. We were counting on a rookie and a Coop reclamation project for 40% of the rotation. There was always a reasonable chance this could happen. I still like all the trades.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 27, 2014 -> 05:55 PM) 3 walks for Hawkins, plus the homer, and the almost homer to dead center. His problem, like they said about Abreu, is his bat's too slow.
  12. QUOTE (Señor Ding-Dong @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 09:32 PM) All I know is I don't want Beckham playing over Semien or Gillaspie. Amen, although I guess it's worth a chance to dress him up for a trade.
  13. Webb is too good (relatively speaking) to waste closing. We need him in tighter situations
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 07:16 PM) The world's greatest pitching depth isn't coming through It was pretty obvious in the spring we had zero depth. And it was also obvious that Downs had nothing left - he threw softballs in the spring, just like now. Veal is a better pitcher than Downs. Leesman should be sent to the pen in Charlotte; he clearly can't start but maybe he has enough command to get lefties out. Cabrera slaughtered him, but a lot of the hits were the result of placement and poor D.
  15. 3 hits and 2 runs on 3 doink ground balls.
  16. If 2 of Flowers, Viciedo and Gillaspie are for real, we're gold. And then there's Alexei swinging at a ball way off the plat.
  17. QUOTE (Baron @ Apr 22, 2014 -> 06:20 PM) He isnt exactly throwing fireballs out there It looks like he'll be okay if he can keep the ball away. But he hasn't gotten the calls out there - not that they were strikes, but pretty close.
  18. How could anyone possibly question 127 pitches in week 3 of the season. it's as ridiculous as questioning running out of pitchers in the 14th inning. Hire a professional manager, please, Rick/Kenny/Jerry.
  19. Last I saw, Beckham was hitting
  20. QUOTE (The Mighty Mite @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Robin was not a good choice to begin with, he has shown no improvement in his OJT. The Sox made it worse by extending him. No way should you run out of pitchers in a 14 inning game. This sums it up nicely. I also think Cooper is at least 1/3 manager of this team, which is one reason the Sox hired a weak manager, instead of someone like Francona.
  21. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Apr 16, 2014 -> 01:28 AM) It appears that Adam is back and will be a key component to our playoff push in 2014. I'm wondering if we should negotiate a new deal now before he posts a 35 HR / 100 RBI season and drives his asking rate through the roof. Yes we should negotiate a deal - deal him to the team that offers us the most young talent for him.
  22. He's made many- he's basically an amateur. Heck, tonight he left his starting pitcher in to give up 13 hits in less than 4 innings. Didn't even try to win the game.
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 15, 2014 -> 02:15 PM) The problem he faces is simple numbers. In addition to everyone in Chicago, plus Beckham and Keppinger on the DL, plus Sanchez in AAA, he's got a lot of guys to fight past to get a look. I think we'll know a lot more in a few months, when sample sizes are more meaningful and we know more about how the infielders will fall out above him. Rememer too that Micah Johnson is knocking on the door behind him. Let him play some outfield then. Possible? We're short there, especially if we move De Aza like we should (or should have).
