  1. Wonderful, they are debating La Russa. They really have their finger on the heart of the problem....
  2. Who would JR turn to for advice as to filling KW's position, assuming KW was gone?
  3. There is some raw talent, but not nearly enough; and there is an overage of over 30 guys who aren't very good.
  4. Clearly a lack of talent. I'm sure we'll hear the "LaRussa sapped all the desire" line from the FO, via media/bloggers over the next few months.
  5. We're closer to the wild card than to the division. And Tampa and Seattle are dutifully losing....but so are we.
  6. Sox don't even have that. Cleveland has a stronger roster and much, much less flotsam on its roster.
  7. Of course, old school is now new school. Contact is key for hitters and Ks are bad; in the naughts, Ks were irrelevant for a hitter. On pitching, naught era old school said Ks were all that matter; new school is strike zone. Where are the White Sox? Old school of course, at least on pitching. Just look at the stiffs they keep on the 40 man who can't throw strikes; they drafted a reliever in the 4th or 5th round who can't throw strikes but has a lot of Ks. Can't Hahn send his guys to a seminar or something to get the updated info?
  8. The magic number is 20 against Guardians, Rays and Mariners. All we need is for the Sox to win 10 and for one of those to lose 10, and the playoffs are ours.
  9. Sox were sentimental about that team, too. 4 years after the Royals won the WS, the Sox signed their 2015 set-up man to a $16 mill deal. Re the 2018 draft, the Astros got Correa's replacement in the third round...Sox got, well, Cesar Hernandez, Mazara and Pollock, I guess.
  10. He says he will emphasize developing young players and the also emphasize the strike zone for hitters and pitchers. This is good news or the Sox: the Sox do neither, so there's less competition or our type of player.
  11. Graveman's supposed to be our 8th inning guy, but he isn't anywhere close to a lock-down reliever; of course, he wasn't with the Astros last year either. But the Sox gave him a big fat raise and signed up for 3 years.
  12. Those guys sitting around him in the twitter video just nodding and lapping it all up. Probably bloggers.
  13. Why would they even send a prospect of any sort on a dog for dog trade like this?
  14. The biggest difference is that the Sox don't have quality depth. And the reason is that, post rebuild, still have an old team and a bottom-tier farm. The Guardians? Young team and a top-tier farm.
  15. No you don't. His last good full-season was 2017. The last thing this org needs is more aging players, especially infielders.
  16. Let the Dave Stewart era begin!
  17. The Guardians should just troll us and throw a lollipop up there for Leury.
  18. Hahn trades Pilkington for the woeful Hernandez. Hernandez' replacement for the Guardians, Giminez, becomes an all star in his rookie year. And Pilkington, while not great, contributes to the Guardians. Hahn goes out and signs old free agents. Hahn is just outclassed.
  19. With all of the college hitters Hostetler drafted, one would think we could have gotten a Kwan out of the deal.
  20. Rays losing to Astros again. We'll be 5 back, with tiebreaker, if Astros win. After this series, they play 4 against Jays..... And we'll be as close to the Rays as we are to the Guardians, due to the tiebreakers.
  21. No he isn't anything special. But if they aren't going to clean out the front office, we'll probably do worse.
  22. Martin has similar numbers as Cueto and Quintana this year. Take the opportunity to fill a position with a minimum salary player, even if he's unheralded as a prospect. The FO has got move on from its obsolete "it's all about strikeouts" analytics (not that Cueto and Q are strikeout guys) and "proven veteran" nonsense. Trouble with moving Giolito is that they won't get much. Maybe trade Hendricks and Lopez; they seem to be at top value. Decent chance Giolito rebounds in his free-agency showcase year. No way should they trade Vaughn for 2 years of a starter.
  23. First, the whole idea is to make the playoffs and hopefully win a WS. There is satisfaction and fun in making the playoffs. Also, if JR is going to replace the FO, he's just as likely to do it with a playoff or winning team, as not. See his history of his GMs. And the sure way to make things worse is for Hahn to feel (or perceive) some hard pressure and start making inane, short-term moves; that's much more likely if the Sox miss the playoffs. Make the playoffs.
  24. Davis Martin would be excellent for a 5. It could be Martin for #4 and Vinny V for #5.......
