Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
CWSGuy406 replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) However, Pods is one of the hardest workers on the team. LOL. What a misconception. The Brewers manager pretty much HATED Pods in his final months up there. He was stubborn as hell at the plate, trying to hit homers rather than use his speed and hit the ball on the ground. No... If Pods was one of the hardest workers on the team, he couldn't POSSIBLY be THAT BAD in LF. -
Scott Podsednik Re-Signs with White Sox
CWSGuy406 replied to Colorado Sox Fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Scott Podsednik is on this team in anything more than a 4th OFer role, this offseason will be a failed one. There's a reason this guy wasn't getting full-time ABs till age 27. He's a bad baseball player who is still, somehow living off of his 2003 season. I'm not going to jump to conclusions. I don't think Podsednik's chances of being our starting LFer in 2007 were made any worse/better because of today's signing. If anything, it could mean that KW believes there's a market for Podsednik, and that he doesn't have to ditch him for nothing. I think the bigger news is that the Sox aren't offering Riske arbitration. At SSS, we came to the conclusion that Riske will probably get about $3 million (probably slightly less) in arbitration if it came down to it. It's an easy chance for the Sox to pickup a top 50 pick in the draft, and if not, I don't think Riske would be untradeable, considering how much guys like Chad Bradford and LaTroy Hawkins are getting. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Dec 1, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) Wow you guys have snow days? Apparently so. I was sleeping about five minuts ago, and the kid next to me is blasting "Let it Snow". Figured something was up, and then the people running up and down our floor yelling "Snow Day!" sealed it. Check here: http://www.marquette.edu/. Beautiful. Can't remember the last time I had one of these.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) ...but Hillenmeyer is a pile of crap, and the front 4 has been average at best since teams finally learned to double team Tommie Harris. I thought so too at the beginning of the year, but IMO, Hillenmeyer has had a pretty nice season. I don't think he's anything special in coverage, but I've been impressed by his tackling this year. It just seems like he's 'around the ball' more often than last year, ie getting in on more tackles. Dunno if the stats back me up on that or not. Last year I wouldn't have said this, but at this point I'm pretty comfortable with Hunter alongside #54 and #55.

This has been an exciting game, but outside of a couple blocks, the defense has been real weak. Lots of "missed assignments". Real fun to watch, though. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Nov 30, 2006 -> 01:57 AM) yes you can download n64 games but right now the wii doesnt have many games available to download. Sweet. I hope they get most-to-all of the N64 games on there eventually. I think that was the best 'friends' system. So many great games... Mario Kart, the whole wrestling series, Mario Party.

So, you can play Gamecube games on the Wii? Am I understanding that correctly? Also, you can download games from old Nintendo onto the Wii? What about N64 games? (Sorry for all the questions)

Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
CWSGuy406 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(VAfan @ Nov 29, 2006 -> 04:29 PM) If Joe Crede has another monster year like he had in 2006 -- or if he actually continues to improve by drawing more walks, which is the only thing holding him down offensively -- then he will actually have MORE trade value next offseason than this year. He's locked up for TWO more years, not one. And I don't buy the notion that teams will pay a lot more for having those two years because any team that wants to trade for him, like the Angels, will be able to pay the freight to extend his contract. Having a second year of better offensive production will be worth a LOT more than losing that one year of being tied up. Crede has NEVER walked more than 35 times in a White Sox uniform. As a major leaguer, he's had over 2200 at-bats. What in God's name makes you think that, at 29 years old, Joe is going to become a more selective hitter at the plate? I actually believe in his 2006 numbers, despite the fact that he's never hit that well at the major league level, but Joe is never going to be a big OBP guy. If you get a .350 OBP season out of Joe, it's probably because he hit .320. Since he'll never walk, he's never going to be an elite hitter. If his back holds up, I can see him putting up a couple of seasons similar to 2006, but I would wager that Joe will never top the .900 OPS mark for a single season. Yeah, dude, three years of Chone Figgins and four years of Ervin Santana for two years of Joe Crede, and we're the ones getting screwed. You clearly have a real good understanding of the baseball market. Awesome. Now you resort to the 2005 post-season. I think I remember Scott Podsednik hitting a homer in some series. That was real neat... You're f***ing crazy. And what's the difference? 'Back in the day', Freddy had a fastball that topped 90 MPH. Did I say you're crazy? You're nuts. So, Freddy Garcia's age 30-35 seasons are going to be better than Ervin Santana's age 23-28 seasons? Am I allowed to wager my parents' mortgage on the house? Yeah. Santana is definitely a true talent 6+ ERA pitcher. Ignore the fact that he's thrown a whole 130 innings, less than a whole season, on the road. Also, totally ignore his 3.09 ERA at home. Sure, LA is a pitcher's park, but that takes some real skills to put up those numbers at home. Please -- when you are able to prove that 135 innings of splits have ANY significance at all going forward, let me know. Please do. Oh, and I forgot you're apparent rule that young pitchers don't improve. I mean, most 23 year old pitchers are tossing 200+ innings of a 102 ERA+, right? WTF do you think Williams has been doing THIS winter? Twidling his f***ing thumbs? -

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 03:52 AM) Angels refused to let him pitch in winter ball after the 2005 season (After 144 innings) Angels refused to let him pitch in the WBC after the 2005 season (After 144 innings) Angels refused to let him pitch in winter ball after the 2006 season So what? What would be the point of letting him pitch in ANY of these? After his 2005 season, he had just got done completing ~190 innings. That was 40 more than his previous high. What would be the point of sending him to pitch in winter ball? Ditto the WBC? I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't the only one held out of the WBC for precautionary reasons. McCarthy, to my knowledge, is not pitching in the winter leagues. Does that mean he's injured, too? Santo, can you find for me Santana's numbers when he pitches on Mondays of months that start with the letter 'J'? I'm just wanting some more obscure and pointless sample sizes to work with here... -

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 02:48 AM) I am not saying he is an injury risk or will be pain free for his career, but I wouldnt take too much weight into restrictions that organizations put on young power arms with offseason work, and extra work that can take a long term affect on their arms. Some teams put restrictions on breaking pitches in the minors that skews their numbers even more. Danks is one that they dont let him throw his power curve too much, for fear of stress on his young arm. Yeah. Santana just got done pitching 200+ innings for the first time in his young professional baseball career. Sending him to winterball would've been quite crazy and very stupid. QUOTE(Beltin @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 03:11 AM) Joe is a winner, plain and simple. Rex Hudler will love him then. Rex Hudler loves winners. -

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 28, 2006 -> 03:04 AM) Wow, Dominic James with the ONIONS. Marquette escapes with the win, and learned a valuable lesson. Why the hell would you ever schedule a game at freaking Valpo?? That's just asking for trouble, but hey they learned AND won, so oh well. Valpo was our only non-conference road game (not counting the games against Tech and Duke, which was played on a nuetral court). James with Marquette's final 18 (!) points. The team shot real poorly from outside, and had a ton of turnovers via charges. Good to see them pull one out in which they don't shoot particularly well. Phew... -

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 10:50 PM) How would people feel about a Santana, Figgins, McPherson and Aybar for Crede and Garcia deal? Then after you do the deal above, you have 5 starters and some stud SP prospects. LOL -- so the Sox would get six years of Aybar, four-six years of McPherson, four years of Santana, and two-three years of Figgins for one year of Freddy Garcia and two of Joe Crede? Plus ten million dollars of relief? You sure you can't get Jeff Weaver, Brandon Wood, and Howie Kendrick added to that deal? It'd make it more fair. -
Sox & Angels Talking; Crede/Garcia for Santana/Figgins
CWSGuy406 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If this deal went through, there would still be other possibilities, mainly because you'd still have the excess of starting pitching. For example, you could make a pitch to New York about ARod -- as a starting offer, Buehrle + Fields. Or you could make a pitch to Toronto about Vernon Wells. This deal would not signal the end of the winter for the Sox. -

Damn... I'd love to see Mathis somehow included in this deal. A young right-handed catcher who could potentially take over for AJ in two years. If not, a solid backup. Yeah. Yeah. Make it Santana/Figgins/Mathis for Garcia/Crede and I'll buy everybody's plane tix. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Nov 27, 2006 -> 09:46 PM) Because Santana has yet to put numbers up like Freddy has. Not taking into account a plan for the future, going into next year, I fully expect them to put up similar numbers. C'mon, Rock, he's 23 years old and has been in the majors for two years. He's been a roughly league average starter for about 340 innings while most pitchers at his age are just getting to AAA. You can't honestly tell me that, over the next couple years, you'd rather have expensive Freddy Garcia than cheap Ervin Santana.
