  1. Sonuvva b****. I really wanted to make it out to the tailgate this year, too... I'll be there Sunday. Have fun tomorrow, and bring home a White Sox Winner!
  2. I just finished reading Moneyball about a month ago. Probably the best sports book I've ever read, but that's not a real good statement -- I'm 16 (ten days till 17 ), so I haven't really read a whole lot of books. Next, in between vomiting from reading Jane Eyre, I plan on reading a couple more baseball oriented books -- Rob Neyer's/Bill James' Pitching Guide, and Scout's Honor -- which is a book about how the Braves of the 90's were built. I've heard that the book takes it's shots at Moneyball and the sabermetric methods, but I'm going to go into it looking for the story of the Braves, rather than the potshots at Moneyball.
  3. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) I'd like to see them eliminate the red line and enforce pad rules for goalies. Those changes would make the game better and make it more comparable to the more exciting international game. I'm also waiting to hear what they are doing for the 2005 draft. If the Hawks could get Crosby then we'd be in business. Agreed with everything. As far as Crosby... :droolsmiley
  4. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) I do recall it being some of the fallout of the Manny for ARod, Maggs for Nomar/Williamson talk. I will say that a little bit of this is actually starting to make some sense. Wow, that would have been extremely -- odd, to say the least -- had that deal went through. Kind of weird, thinking back to how close (at least, how it was reported) that deal was to going down...
  5. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 16, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) How about people saying that Oakland would actually compete for the AL West crown. :rolly Or the people that put quotes from Kenny Williams in their sigs saying that El Duque would stay healthy. :rolly I was wrong about Oakland. I'd rather talk about them at the end of the season, but I'll take the shots.
  6. Really good start for Stephen Drew in his pro-career: Hot Sheet
  7. Thanks, guys. Appreciate it, a lot!
  8. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 08:22 PM) I'd throwup if Tracey was traded for Castilla. Tracey is a good solid prospect and could be the center piece of a deal to get a very good player imo. I'm not really in love with Tracey, though it seems I might be -- but like you said, I think he can be a somewhat important piece to a bigger/better deal.
  9. BTW -- Castilla is down to a .754 OPS, compared to Crede's .720. You're telling me that we should give up a guy like Sean Tracey for .034 percentage points of offense? Really? I'm not seeing it...
  10. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 07:36 PM) The deal does not make sense at all for the White Sox. Why should they help a team who coudl easily beat them in the post season by giving them something that is most difficult to get (pitching)?????? The Sox can get 3B upgrades elsewhere (Randa for sure and maybe even Castilla if the Nats do fall out of it). Hell they should get a SS like Nomar and move Uribe to 3B before tradign Marte away for Bill-I-had-one-great-year-Mueller This coming from a guy who started a trade for A-Rod, and a trade for Omar Vizquel thread? On the basis of, his opinion? And now Nomar? Unbelievable... Mueller has only had one good year? News to me. Since '96, his lowest OBP has been .333, while over his career he has averaged a .374 OBP. He's posted OPS+ of 140, 124, 120, 110, 109, and 106 -- only twice dipping below league average. Please... think a little before you type.
  11. Link I have a question/suggestion. Would we be able to have an all-minor league thread, sort of like the one we have in the Around the Horn ("Around the Majors")? I think that would be sort of cool, just as something to look at for other teams' prospects as well as ours. If not, that's cool too. I've grown to love this part of Soxtalk, lots of good information and posters.
  12. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) I guess if we traded Marte for Mueller and went after Eddie Guardado it would make sense. Even if we didn't, it would be a huge win for us -- not saying it'll be Marte straight up for Mueller. But -- Mueller is gonna play everyday, as opposed to Marte, who's only gonna pitch every other day. There's no contest between a pitcher and a position player -- IMO. Obviously, if one's a whole lot better than the other, but Mueller is a real solid bat.
  13. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:23 AM) What about the Devil Rays being a possible destination for Crede? I thought about that a bit, but they gotta move Huff first -- I assume. I also assume we're going to get a new thirdbaseman by the end of July, be it Ensberg, Mueller, Huff, or A-Rod.
  14. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:15 AM) Exactly. I'm the same way. This is a deal that works for both teams to a sense, so why not discuss it. Perfectly fine with me. Let's talk. Marte makes sense. I'd imagine they'd have to get a third team in this trade, though -- I mean, they (the White Sox) wouldn't be able to keep Crede -- you can't keep him on the bench, he only plays one position, and doesn't even hit that well. So, we can start looking for a team that needs a thirdbaseman...
  15. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:11 AM) Keith, it's all bulls*** to me. Maybe I'm just the wrong guy to ask. Have fun with this one fellas! Nite. Heh, I don't care. I get a kick out of talking about potential trades/offseason stuff, I dunno, always have. Hell, in Madden, it gets to a point where I don't play, rather just do the offseason stuff and sim the season. I should say, I get a kick out of stuff that has some validity to it. And this does -- IMO, of course.
  16. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:08 AM) There is no base to this what-so-ever. Pure conjecture. But, hey, after two devestating losses, people can conjure up all the trades their hearts desire. It's got more basis than some of the, "How about a trade for Omar Vizquel/A-Rod/Ken Griffey" bulls*** we've seen the past week. It makes sense, too. Youkilis is ready to play everyday, and they need a spot to play him. Apparently, 1B isn't the spot -- they want him at third.
  17. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 05:03 AM) I definitely don't want to lose Damaso however if the right package came along I wouldn't necessarily be against it. Damaso's stuff looked absolutely fantastic tonight but he still got hit around pretty good, I was stumped just leaving to many pitches over the plate at this point. And, though it's a small sample size, Marte's got a case of the reverse splits as well -- the lefties hitting better against him than righties. Cheat, that's a good point about Polanco. I never even thought about it like that. What's Mueller making this year?
  18. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 04:48 AM) redandwhite would know more than me about this, but Boston would probably want to upgrade their pen correct? DBaho and Rowand, I know the question wasn't addressed at me, but yes, that's where they'd want the upgrade. Unless, of course, some sort of deal went down where Konerko went to Boston -- 'cause I don't know how happy they are with Millar. They're more than set in the rotation -- Schilling (hurt), Wells (hurt), Clement, Miller, Arroyo, Wakefield, Halama too (emergency spot starter, IIRC). Their bullpen though, could use some help. I doubt they'd like Vizcaino, but who knows, maybe Theo thinks he could use Shingo. I could definitely see them liking Bajenaru, though... EDIT: Ok, saw your post. Yeah, Marte makes sense, I didn't think about it. I'd hate to lose Marte, but if it meant getting an everyday thirdbaseman who's going to get on-base consistently and can handle the bat real well, then ya gotta do it.
  19. Ok -- here's my problem. In MVP Baseball, I can create five more guys. I'm obviously going to create Lance Broadway, now, I need help with the next four. I have down Stephen Drew and Justin Upton as two locks -- even if they're from the same farm system, but I have no clue where to go with the next two. I was thinking Ryan Zimmerman and Alex Gordon, but then I thought that a guy like Craig Hansen is going to make an impact real soon, so I figured I might put him in there. Normally, I wouldn't post an MVP question in here, but I think I can get better advice in here rather than the MVP thread, since it has to do with the overall minor leagues (no shot at anyone). Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
  20. Thanks for the info, redandwhite. Over at BTF, the White Sox chatter'ers were talking about the exact same thing. Is Youk pretty much set to take over? I know he's done just about everything he can do over at Pawtucket, right? And, with the BoSox's bullpen woes, I could see a guy like Jeff Baj or Shingo/Vizcaino going over there, along with one of our upper-tier prospects (not the elite guys, though). Hope to see your response to some of my questions above.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Might as well put Marte back on the DL after tonight. Something is obviously not right with him. He looked tentative out there tonight. I don't think he's 100%...
  22. Cotts for Cy Young... I've learned that Cotts' WHIP is now at 1.00. I'm going to praise praise him all I want, because I know that once he gives up a couple of runs, there will be twenty threads about how he sucks and "Botch" or some stupid ass nickname.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:56 AM) Yeah, I agree. It was playing like a normal park for the majority of the beginning of the season. However, tonight's an example of how the ball just flies out of here. We'll see how successful "Ozzieball" is when everyone is trying to hit homers. Difference is, last year, we'd have the firepower to stay with a team who has scored 8-9 runs. This year, I don't know if we have that...
  24. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 01:40 AM) I liked our chances much better when the park played bigger. I'm not saying that I like that it's playing like a hitter's park, I was just surprised for the first two months that it was playing (for the most park) like a pitcher's park.
