  1. QUOTE(danman31 @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) Why? You think the NHL is run well? Then I think you are the moron. It took a "cancellation" of a season to get their asses in gear. That's very sad. I was referring to the "You f***ers deserve s***" comment, that I took as you saying to us hockey fans... Were you meaning it towards NHL management/players or something...?
  2. Kansas is having a lot of trouble with Iowa State. 43-39, Iowa State leading, 7 minutes left in the second half.
  3. QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Keith, my first reaction is that Harris is not well suited to be a bench player at this stage of his career. Agreed. But as a platoon player...? I'm just saying, if the scenario I stated above does happen, the Sox can't just dump Harris on the bench, can they? I guess they could do anything, but it'd be awfully stupid to either a.)bench Harris after a great spring, or b.)not trade him while his value is (probably) highest.
  4. QUOTE(danman31 @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) You can't just uncancel something. The NHL is a horribly run league, and I was hoping to see a new league take it's place. f*** the NHL, you f***ers don't deserve s***. :rolly You're a moron.
  5. QUOTE(YoungstownIndians @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) You know what pisses me off is you guys can never realize or accept the fact about things. You guys say the Indians MAY finish fourth. s***..... You are just saying that because you are pissed in every single preseason poll the Indians are ahead of the Sox. Sorry if you don't like it that way but it is true. Say all the s*** you want you guys may be competing for the 3rd spot with Detroit. I try to be fair but you guys flip out so I will to. Your Sox offense SUCKS. You guys have, watch out, Jose Contreas and Garcia. Oh I am trembling...... April 4, 2005 tells the whole story. INDIANS WIN! We're not pissed about anything... If anything, us Sox fans know how much pre-season rankings mean -- we've been ranked at the top of our division, or close to it, the past three seasons. And where has it gotten us? I'd say 90% of this board realizes these rankings mean jack-s***, and you're a f***ing joke because you're the one taking them all seriously. The reason you see some b****ing from some of us on the board is because we think our team deserves a little more respect, that's all. Say all the s*** you want, but you might be competing with KC for the fifth spot. Same goes with us. Both of our teams are huge question marks going into the season. I can honestly see both the Sox and Tribe both winning 92 games -- I can also see them both only winning 75 games. But -- Your rotation includes Westbrook, who's had about one good season. Sabathia is solid, but the rest is question marks. Lee will never hold up for a whole season, Millwood is alright, but will he stay healthy, and Scott Elarton? Garland is much, much better than Elarton. That doesn't mean our rotation is any better. Garcia has been inconsistent throughout his career, same with Contreras -- and Hernandez is solid, but will he stay healthy, sort of along the lines with Millwood. And, Buehrle is what Sabathia is to the Indians -- the only pitcher who can be considered a sure thing (or closest to it).
  6. As far as the new rules... Meh, I'm no fan of the shootout, but whatever. I guess if it can't be decided after 65 minutes of a regular season game, then the shootout should do it. I just fear a shootout deciding a game in late March that decides who goes into the playoffs, and who doesn't get in. I'm really against an individual vs. individual situation deciding who wins the game. During the bulk of the season, whatever -- fine, more fans, that's good. But, I hope that the Hawks don't get into many of 'em in the next couple years. We may have a good blueline coming up in the minors, but we're few and far between as far as those gamebreaking snipers... I like touch-up offsides. Should have been used all along. Widening the bluelines, fine. No problems there, not a fan of it, but not against it. Goalies can't touch the puck -- ehh, I don't like that one. If you want to discourage goalies from touching the puck behind the net, allow them to be hit if they're out of the goalie box. But not allowing them to touch it at all behind the net is kind of dumb, IMHO...
  7. QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 06:24 PM) Ha ha, very funny, you are quite the comedian, eh? QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 06:25 PM) Which is what I was meaning to say... I'm real sorry that I can't interpret what you mean, okay? Don't say stupid things...
  8. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 06:29 PM) With the exception of PK and arguably Dye, this line-up is full of hit-it and run-it-out types of guys. The Sox should be down in the power rankings. I'm glad that we picked up AJ Pierzynski for the blazing speed he brings to the table. And, I'm sure as hell glad that Iguchi doesn't have any power whatsoever. Oh yeah -- Uribe and Crede, no power there either. Rowand? Yeah, he's a grinder and a slasher, he's a hit it and run-it-out type of guy. But hey, with the exception of Dye, Konerko, Pierzynski, Everett, Iguchi, Crede, Uribe, Everett, and Rowand -- our whole lineup up is full of hit-it and run-it-out type of guys. Great assessment, Killa! BTW -- Where've ya been? I guess you didn't believe half of us in saying to give the offseason a chance to get started before you started b****ing. Haven't seen much of you, lately, though. Funny, isn't it...
  9. Let's say this scenario goes down -- anyone can comment as they like: Willie has a really good spring training -- he hits .300, steals some bases, gets down some bunts. Iguchi, on the other hand, hits well too -- .260-.270, showing some power, speed, but definitely not a good a spring as Harris. What do you do? My concern is the possible 'what if' -- what if Iguchi's numbers of his past two seasons don't translate well over here? If you can get Cintron, that's one thing. But -- why get a lesser backup as a utility guy, when you already have Harris, a solid replacement at 2B and CF?
  10. QUOTE(Beastly @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 05:30 PM) We'll miss him, but I do believe Everett is faster than Frank, so in the time being, I'd have to say we'll be fine...tho we need Franks power numbers. So, because Everett is faster than Thomas, we'll be fine?
  11. FWIW, over at Blackhawkzone.com, they've posted the new rules that will be implemented if and when the new NHL season starts, be it in March or October (hopefully no later)... What do you guys think about the penalty shots? They'll still have the great OT's for the playoffs, but even for the regular season -- I really don't think a game should ever be decided by a player-vs.-player type of play. Hockey is such a team game -- even if shootouts are a lot of fun, I really don't think they belong at the highest level of pro-hockey...
  12. I know a lot of people will say that they'll want to get back at the NHL by not going to games and stuff like that, but I, for one, will be the first one back at the UC ready to watch the Hawks. I know I'm being fickle, but so what -- I want to see some real hockey. The Wolves have done nothing for me to get my hockey 'fix', and man -- I'm getting real excited. If they get a deal done tomorrow, that's awesome. Great to see guys like Lemieux and Gretzky not let this great game go down the s***ter...
  13. QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Feb 19, 2005 -> 03:47 AM) Sec 149 row 9. i win Steve, where is 149 at? I forget which exact section I'm in, but I'm in left-center field, almost as far as you can go towards center -- ten rows up. Is the Fan Deck open? Last year, I sat up on the Fan Deck for a whole game, and those seats are really great. You see the strike zone perfectly, and the whole field perfectly -- but I don't know where 149 is, those might be some good seats.
  14. What positions does Cintron play? Is he a SS, 2B, and 3B, a superutility guy? And, he's a lefty, correct? I looked over his minor league stats, seems like an up and down guy. But, like you've been saying, Jim, maybe a change of scenery guy? However, I don't see a Harris for Cintron deal going down. Doesn't make a lot of sense for 'Zona. It'll take a Munoz/Adkins, like Beck has been preaching, to get it done...
  15. FWIW, lots of rumors swirling around in Canada that both sides (not the moron Goodenow) are starting to come to their senses about what cancelling the WHOLE NHL season would do to their sport. Maybe it's just wishful thinking, but lot's of people feel this deal can still get done. Here's the TSN article... Link Now would be a great time to strike a deal, this weekend. Just about the time when Ruutu is scheduled to return, too -- so if something did go down, Ruutu would be right back in action.
  16. Fiction: I see no Sox starter winning 20, but I do see three out of five winning 14+, and no starter winning less than ten games. Fact: I think there's a good chance he gets traded, but who knows -- I'll guess he stays with the Sox for a bit. Fiction: But -- If El Duque does throw 140+, that's awesome. I personally see right around 120-130, but I hope I'm wrong. Fiction: I don't think he'll reach 30, but I believe he'll be mid-20's. If we plan on being in a lot of close games, we better have a guy who can shut the door... Fiction: No way Podsednik even comes close to his 2003 season. Hell, I doubt he even hits .300. I'll be pleased with .285/.350 from Podsednik this year. Fiction: I see Thomas missing a bit more than a half of April, so there's 20 or so games missed right there. From there, I hope that he's eased back into the lineup, and rested more often than last season, even if he's DH. We need a healthy Thomas if we're going to make noise this season... Fact: Carl will get his ABs in at DH, LF, and RF. Fact: And, like others, I see Contreras doing it. Fiction: Prove me wrong, Sox. Please, prove me wrong.
  17. QUOTE(daa84 @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 05:55 PM) The stat nerds are the ones who overvalue Carlos, and the scouts in this case have it right. Hey -- if an overvalued guy is one who has improved each season, is in the age-period where many seem to have their peak seasons, and who, for the past three seasons has put up OPS+ of above 115 (and improving), then I want more of these overvalued players on the Sox... Your analysis is totally wrong on Carlos, but that's JMHO...
  18. Well, it turns out that I'll be making it to Opening Day as well as all of the Sunday home games in April/May, which includes Cleveland, Seattle, Detroit, and Baltimore. I also hope to make it out to the last game of May vs. Anahiem, as well as our first meeting with Minnesota, a half-price Monday game. All of this thanks to that "Family & Friends" Ticket discount, which is really nice. If Brooks was the one who implemented it... To Brooks!
  19. QUOTE(farmteam @ Feb 7, 2005 -> 03:03 AM) I would really prefer not draft a reliever in the first round. I doubt he'll be there at 15, unless he has a bad spring, but the guy I want is Jeff Clement, a Catcher out SC (that's either Southern Cal or South Carolina, can't remember which...USC, I think). I'd like to get another catcher in the system. If not that, an SS or an SP. In BA, they had us taking a high school SS, can't remember his name though. Bristow, I think. Farmteam, I definitely agree with your assessment. Catcher/SP/MIF are definite needs as far as having a real good prospect in one of those positions. As far as taking a reliever with that 15th pick, I wouldn't mind it, but I'd want this reliever to -- a.) be coming from college, not high school, and b.) have absolutely electric stuff. I'd like to see a college pitcher fall to us at 15, if it's Weaver, so be it. I really want to see a concerted (sp?) effort to rebuilding this farm system. That's definitely a challenge, considering that year in, year out, Kenny will (most likely) trade one of the better prospects in order for a good return at the major league level, but I hopefully JR can put aside a little bit more money each year to the draft, so Kenny is able to pick that kid in the fifth round who has fallen because it's heard he'll be a tough sign. I'm not suggesting that we give these draftees whatever money they want, but having a solid and prospering farm system to fall back on will be nice, if and when it gets there.
  20. Can anyone answer if Savannah is a low-A or high-A? I'm assuming high-A, considering that Owens was 23 last season, but can anyone answer that for sure...?
  21. QUOTE(MurcieOne @ Feb 13, 2005 -> 07:41 PM) I was just kidding.... i do really enjoy watching the illini play, i guess i shoulda put all that in green. my bad Same here. I'm definitely not an Illini fan, but I definitely love watching that team play. They're really unselfish, and overall, they play a real fun game. That being said, I'll be the first one cheering if Northwestern beats them at Assembly...
  22. Hmm... I realize he was pretty old for being in A-Ball, but he put up some decent numbers in his first full season. Definitely not a power guy, though. Oh well, cleared a spot off the 40-man, I guess that's good...
  23. Mods -- were you guys planning on having one Spring Training thread, in which everything is grouped together, or were we going to have, basically, whenever there's news, there's a new thread sort of a thing...? I kind of like the idea of having everything grouped together in one thread, and then come March, the ST game threads seperate, but it's personal prefence, as others in the past have voiced the opinion of liking everything being separate. Any comments as to that?
  24. Brian -- If you're reading this, you were just on TV. They're doing a special for the Orange Krush on CBS, and they showed you waiting outside by a fire before the Wake Forest game. Awesome!
