  1. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 05:45 PM) So how exactly do you redeem that deal, I'm definitely interested in doing that. At WSI, a guy posted this password and said that everyone can use it, so I assume it's OK to post it here (if not, I'll delete it later): 108956. Go to whitesox.com, click tickets. Click the game you want tickets for (every game except Mondays). Then, where it says "quantity", go to the Family & Friends thing, and put in your quantity there, along with the password. Definitely a real good deal, this alone will allow me to attend about 8 games in the first two months, just because of the cheapness of the ticket.
  2. QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Feb 12, 2005 -> 07:20 AM) Anyone forgetting Buerhle? In 2003, after Mientkiewicz made those comments about the Sox not deserving the ASG, promptly got knocked down by MB in their 1st meeting. Or how about Garland getting ejected for throwing at a Twins player in retaliation for one of them hitting Frank? Except for Mike Jackson, I think the pitchers will back their guys up. FWIW, if Hermanson was on this team last year, I bet you he definitely would've plunked Hunter. I dunno how good Hermanson is, but everything I've heard about his attitude is thumbs up.
  3. Definitely 10-20. FWIW, everyone here can get 10 bucks off of any tickets in April/May if you order between now and February 18th via Ticketmaster.com/whitesox.com. They have a cool thing now, a family/friends discount, just gotta get ahold of one of the passwords from a season ticket holder. Best seats in the UD for ten bucks, not a bad deal at all. You can buy them from the lower deck, too, so it's a really good deal. Just a heads up.
  4. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 07:22 AM) How about his numbers with the Sox? (especially on the Road and during the day) Like I said, I want more consistency from him. Early in his career, 2000 & 2001, he was a real good pitcher. Then he had a stretch of mediocre years, and last year he was solid, but not ace-like. Maybe it's just me, but the label 'ace' isn't something that I throw around to a lot of pitchers.
  5. I'd like to see one more consistently good year out of Garcia before I give him ace status. I know Buehrle is our ace, and I like having Freddy on the staff -- I just want to be sure that he's the guy we can rely on, and Buehrle can carry us. Let's face it, folks. This isn't a revolutionary statement that I'm going to make, but we'll go as far as our starting staff takes us. Like I said, nothing revolutionary, but just wanted to put it out there, nonetheless.
  6. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 11, 2005 -> 01:05 AM) Where can I find one of these healthy El Duques? I have yet to see one. So? I'll still take the starts El Duque makes plus the starts Diaz makes in his place over Silva. That OK?
  7. LOL @ Parque! On a neutral court, UNC dominates Duke. (And I'm a fan of neither team.) Duke arrogance at its finest right there...
  8. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 10:53 PM) EDIT: Eh, screw it. IMHO, Radke-Buehrle Santana>Garcia Silva-El Duque Lohse Mays I think a pre-season #4 is fair. A healthy El Duque is much, much >>>>> than Silva. Definitely no comparison with those two, IMHO.
  9. QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 09:15 PM) Unlike Pods, Gload has only played 1 season. If you want me to make up statistics for Gload and compare them to Everett's career. I just dont understand, generally we overhype players when they come up. Gload actually produced as a rookie and people want to diss his production because he did not get enough AB's. Im so puzzeled. Why the hate for Gload? And how many other teams would say a guy who hit .320 in his first season was a "nice bench player". lol SB For whoever compared Podsednik and Gload -- that's an inaccurate comparison. Gload actually hit well in the minor leagues. He was a career .315 hitter in over 1500 ABs at AAA. Podsednik, on the other hand, was alright in the minor leagues, but still a career .260+ hitter. Until Gload proves that he can't hit, I'm definitely OK with him in the lineup on a daily basis (actually, not daily -- but he ought to get a fair share of AB's this season). And, If Paully starts asking for over eight million per season, Gload is my firstbaseman next year (with a possible platoon player vs. lefties).
  10. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) 3 yr Timo: 68AB PH vs 669AB RON,ISP. It's not an accurate measure to use his PH #'s. As a LH bat he can hit RHers. 3 yr: vs L: 136AB, .154A .201O .191S vs R: 947AB, 290A, 324O, 415S So, Timo can hit righties? So can Gload, Everett, and Harris, and much better (at that) than Timo.
  11. GHC -- You talking about Everett and his worthlessness from the right side (was it this thread?) gets me to thinking... we have absolutely nobody worth a damn from the right side. The Cubs took a flyer on this kid, Hansen, Hanson, is his name? He's a natural 1B-man, isn't he? He would have been a great pickup for this team, especially if he's versetaille (don't know if he is -- can he play the corner OF spots?). I think he's a righty, but if he's not, scratch my idea. I'd have loved to see the Sox grab him, seeing as though his OBP is usually around .340-.350 off the top of my head... I know a lot of people like our bench, and to a certain extent, I do too -- Harris, Gload, and Everett are all average to slightly above average players, which is really all you can ask for with a non-Yankee payroll. But, who do we bring in from the right side when we need a right handed pinch hitter for AJ Pierzynski in the ninth against JC Romero? Ben Davis? At this point, Burke should be on the team over Davis, but that's JMHO.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 04:39 AM) They were 17-23 from the free throw line which is very solid. Really, 17-23? I thought I heard on the telecast Nessler or Vittell (sp?) say that they were 10-20 or something like that... Meh, probably heard wrong.
  13. As an objective fan of a team who has no aspirations whatsoever (Northwestern :banghead ), I'll say this in regards to the UNC/Duke game: -Nelson played very, very well off the bench for Duke. -Ewing is garbage. He gets hot and buries a couple of tres, but other than that, he was terrible. He was terrible against Maryland, too. -Felton, what the hell was that at the end??? On a more positive note, I think UNC should absolutely dominate when the game is @ UNC (they do play at UNC, correct?). What was UNC from the line -- 10/24? And aren't they one of the best free throw shooting teams in the ACC? I think you can chalk up this win, in a huge part, due to the Cameron Crazies, but that's JMHO.
  14. QUOTE(bigred3535 @ Feb 10, 2005 -> 12:45 AM) That simulation is the reason that when ESPN does theirs using similar programs, they do at least 100 of them. There are always going to be outliers, but if you average them you'll get something closer to what would really happen. I imagine if you did 100 of those the sox would make the playoffs at least between 25 and 35 times, if not more. Just incase anyone is interested, this Yankee fan who has a blog did the same thing (not with OOTP, but with another baseball simulator -- Diamond Mind). 100 seasons, Sox make the playoffs ten times, 2 Wildcards, 8 Division Titles. Yankee Fan Blog Simulation Results FWIW, this is pretty updated, from Jan 29th. I'll be interested to see how accurate their average is in regards to this season...
  15. QUOTE(TLAK @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Bad for the Sox, good for Grilli. He didn't figure to break with the team and would have been AAA insurance. The Tigers starters figure to be Mike Maroth and Jason Johnson as locks, then probably Jeremy Bonderman, Wilfredo Ledezma and Nate Robertson. I consider Maroth and Johnson to be nice MLB pitchers and the other guys promising but erratic -except against the Sox. If Jason shows he can keep the Tigers in most games, which is basically what he did last year, I think he will have a chance to stick. Alan Trammel has shown he will move starters in and out looking for a hot hand. MLB minimum beats AAA money any day of the week. Smart decision by Jason, I hope he does well against everyone but the White Sox. Didn't Grilli have ZERO quality starts last season? I'm sorry, good attitude or not, he sucks. He got lucky because he got good run support. If we get the chance to face Grilli, that'd be awesome. It'd be a feast...
  16. JMHO, but .269/.337 would be the bottom of the spectrum for Iguchi (if it's true that he switched his stance two years back, improving his AVG/OBP). IIRC, the only correlation (and it's a reach, cause it's such a small sample size) is that BA and OBP go down about .030 percentage points each -- so if you used that correlation to his two past years in Japan, wouldn't he still be about a .300/.380 guy? Personally, I'm predicting right around a .280 AVG/.350 OBP, with 15 homers.
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) Well they could...anything can happen. But they'd have to give up an insane package to get another top 10 pick(possibly another top 5 pick, because I have seen comparisons of Johnson to Ray Lewis, only at OLB, noting that he is that good), and that would be stupid as hell. Scott Wright has Johnson going at 16, and I don't think there is a chance of that happening...not even close, nor do I think he is going to be the second OLB taken(though Merriman is listed as an OLB/DE). Basically, I view both Williams and Johnson as top 10 picks, to whoever. The Bears might get one, but not a chance(if they are smart) at both. If the Bears went with Williams or Johnson, you'd hear no complaining from me. However, taking one of the two above players is contingent on them going out and getting a solid offensive tackle for this team. We need some friggin' cohesion, because the O-Line is like the motor of the offense -- if it's not working, we're in deep s*** for yet another year on offense. Right now, without looking at anything else, I'd close my eyes and pick one of Johnson/Williams, though that might not be the smartest thing to do.
  18. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:21 PM) He also traded a PTBNL for Stephen f***ing Randolph, and it costed him two pitching prospects in the rule 5 draft. Good point. Cisco is a kid a lot of people like... Then again, a lot of people over at BTF like the trade from Hendry's perspective, in that Novoa is a young Farnsy, and he's cheap. They feel like this was the best they could have gotten for Farnsy... Novoa looks alright -- he put together some good minor league numbers from 2002-2004, but was garbage in his short stint with Detroit. I just wish that they'd have traded him to a team outside the AL Central, just incase he gets his head on straight.
  19. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) Cubs are also giving up a PTBNL. Wow, really? While I don't expect the PTBNL to be much, this is Hendry (IMHO) second s***ty deal regarding a relief pitcher in two years. The first mistake was getting s*** for Juan Cruz, who will now be a reliable arm with the Oakland Athletics, as well as (perhaps) a chance to spot start every now and then. And now this -- jack squat for Farnsy. Unfortunate, though, that Farnsy has to be in our division now, just incase he does realize his vast potential...
  20. QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) We got more runs out of 3B last year than we'll get from Crede this year. We got more runs out of CF last year than we'll get from Rowand this year. We got more runs out of SS last year than we'll get from Uribe this year. We got more runs out of C last year than we'll get from AJ/Davis this year. There is something about these projections that just don't add up. Valentin was horrid last year, yet we are going to have drop off at SS? I don't think so. The catcher position is going to be less productive with AJ as our main starter over the Olivo-Alomar-Burke-Davis combo of '04? Not. Lies, Damn lies and statistics. Good points, Yas. We're upgrading at C, SS, 3B (Crede should improve upon last years numbers), & RF (Dye >>> Borchard, Perez, Ordonez combo of '04). We only really have a dropoff in LF. 2005 definitely will be an interesting year, no doubt...
  21. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 06:10 PM) Still a good move by Hendry. We all know 'Farm Club Farnsworth' was not the answer. Now the Cubs have 3 guys to possibly compete for the closer role. He got three sucky (for lack of a better word) for a guy with an absolutely dazzling arm, peanut brain or not. And yes, the prospects he's getting back are mid-tier, if that. Am I the only one who thinks that Hendry could have gotten a better package? Hell, I would have loved to see Farnsy here for Adkins + a low-level guy. Stuff isn't everything, but he has an awesome hook, an electric slider, and he can bring the heat. Oh well. The Tigers are starting to worry me some (not a lot, just a bit more than last year). I don't think their playoff bound, but I do think adding Farnsy will help their bullpen...
  22. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Feb 9, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) Shortstop for sure. I am not sold on Juan Uribe and I feel he will fall into a sophomore slump. Actually, he was a bit rough the second half of last year. He is the perfect utility infielder. He's Hispanic for Craig Grabeck. Nice player, but no star. How hypocritical some of us are on this board (not saying you, retro -- just wanted to use your post as an example). I'd say more than 90% of the people here are sold on Podsednik, because he's had one good season -- yet Juan Uribe is the one who's going to slump, because he's only had one real good year? I'd agree with Qwerty, I'd much rather have a more reliable leadoff hitter to start the season, unfortunately, those just don't grow on trees. MIF could use some depth, push Harris to the OF, and kick get Timo off the team and to Charlotte.
  23. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 09:50 PM) 2002 Durham - .390 OBP(for half a season or so with us) Lofton was good when healthy too wsf -- do you think it's a fair statement to say, if we had Durham for 2003, the whole season -- producing at or around a .380 OBP, we make the playoffs? I honestly believe that a consistent leadoff hitter in 2003 gets us at least to the playoffs, if not beyond. 2003 -- The team that could have been...
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 05:34 AM) I'm going to kind of disagree. Obviously homeruns aren't a bad thing, however when you have to hit homeruns to win games, then yes it's a bad thing. The entire team has been hung up with the long ball for far to logn now, having to many homerun hitters was part of the problem, imo. Again... It goes back to the problem, as Cheat points out, we haven't had a good leadoff hitter/leadoff men since, when?
  25. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 8, 2005 -> 08:25 AM) Quit trying to argue with me for the sake of arguing 406. God. :headshake I was talking about the way some of these stat heads try to calculate patience from BA and OBP. I'll drop my argumentative ways (which, I do -- wrongfully so, at that, a real bad habit that must be dropped before I begin college), if you drop the 'bulls*** stats' line...
