Bears Sign WR Muhsin Muhammad
CWSGuy406 replied to Confederate_48's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 04:26 AM) Thomas Jones is superior to Anthony Thomas. He was very good last year for the Bears. get him a serviceable line to run behind and a passing game that takes away extra guys out the box, and you turn those 950 yards into 1250 along with his receiving skills. Anthony Thomas ran behind the same line, and when Thomas ran well for us (i.e. 2001, specific games this year), we won. He's a bruiser. He doesn't fumble. In the fourth quarter, that's where A-Train makes his money. I agree with you, ws91403, some team is going to get a damn good RB in Thomas. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 11:41 PM) Actually, they lost AJ prior to last year, lost Dougie in the middle of last year, and lost Koskie this offseason. FWIW, they also lost Cristian Guzman...Mr .310 OBP Kind of scary to think that, after losing Koskie, Pierzynski, Mien-kay-b****, and Guzman, their offense is most likely going to improve this season. Not to mention a sick bullpen. They're definitely the team to beat. Hopefully we can get the job done this year.

QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) Somebody help, who is this Johnson you are speaking of, I'm drawing a blank. Also, I'm extremely happy with Muhamed signing. But, in a big way it pisses me off too, not that he signed, but the fact that there is a debate over who to draft now. By letting A-Train walk away, Angelo has to find another quality runner, when last year he had 1, (Train) and a serviceable bum (Jones). I'm sorry, I hate Thomas Jones. So rather than draft Williams with the 4, The Bears have to worry about another RB when keeping Train would have been the answer. Angelo has dome some really good things, but I hate him for the way he has treated A-Train and I hate Michigan too. They need to keep Terrell too, IMO. I agree with everything you said (except I don't dislike Michigan so much). And, Johnson is a LB (OLB) from Texas that is drawing comparisons the comparisons of Ray Lewis. People say he might be the best pure athlete in the draft. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Feb 26, 2005 -> 02:20 PM) This is not a brilliant move, it's nothing .... It's not to test Adkin's stamina either. Adkins will pitch maybe 2 innings, just as any other pitcher would on the first ST game. If it was Buehrle, he'd pitch 2 innings or so. Don't make this any bigger than a blip on your radar screen, because that's all it is. I agree. Let's not make a big deal about something that isn't...

Bears Sign WR Muhsin Muhammad

Excellent signing! I hope Mush can help turn Gage and (maybe there's still hope?) Terrell into solid receivers. Not to mention we finally have a threat at WR. Here's to a great career with the Bears, Mushin! -
QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Feb 25, 2005 -> 08:28 PM) Truth.. KW hasn't won s***.. that is not my viewpoint, it is A simple FACT something that If you knew baseball as well as you profess to, this would be such an obvious reality that it wouldn't need to be discussed Lets just all agree, That KW hasn't done s*** so far to help this team win, cause that is a FACT.. By winning s***, you mean that he hasn't won a title, correct? Kenny has been GM for what, four, five years? Let me just put it on the record that 25 of the 30 GM's in baseball are s***ty.

If neither Ozuna nor Valdez can play 3B, wouldn't it be better to have Burke up with the club, rather than Davis? I mean -- Davis isn't really helping the team by being a backup. He can't hit lefties at all (.229 over the last three years), and he isn't that great enough defensively to where we'd need him off the bench late in a game. Burke, on the other hand, could definitely hit better than .230 vs lefties (which is pretty damn big considering our starting catcher isn't great vs. lefties), would give us some versaitilty at 3B, C, and the corner OF spots too. I dunno, maybe I'm overexagerating it, but I don't see the need of Davis being on our roster. He really doesn't add anything to the club -- rather, I think Burke would add more than anything Davis would bring...
-
Thanks for the help, guys. Owens and Spidale are both lefties, correct?
-
Actually, I found the Iguchi video, and Hideki Matsui is probably the best thing I've seen closest to him so far... Ichiro is pretty close, too (and I'm not just saying that because they're all from the far East...).
-
For those who created Iguchi, what batting stance did you make him? I can't find that friggin' Iguchi video and it's pissing the hell out of me...

OK -- For MVP 2005, I'm gonna take some time out and put in some of the real Sox minor leaguers, I'd just like as best input as possible on it. Some of these are just stupid questions, but like I said -- I want it to be as real as possible. Feel free to answer whichever ones you know, and any answers are greatly -- greatly, appreciated: -Francisco Hernandez - is he projecting to be more of a power guy, or more of a gap-hitter? And, how is his arm behind the plate? -Is Casey Rogowski a righty or a lefty, and how is his power potential? -Thomas Brice -- I have absolutely no clue. Righty/Lefty? How's he defensively, and does he play an exclusive OF position, or does he play where he's put? How's his arm? And, how's his plate discipline and hitting? Power hitter, gap hitter? Does he K a lot? Does he draw a lot of walks? -Sean Tracy - First, realistically, is he going to make it as a starter? And, what pitches does he throw, and at what velocity? I know he's got some pretty good stuff, obviously a bit wild, but -- should I make him with less stamina and create him as a reliever, or should I bump his stamina up? -Bobby Jenks -- Other than the 100+ heater, what other pitches should I have for him? He throws a curve, doesn't he? Any other pitches I should include with him? -And, I need to know whether these guys hit righty, lefty, or are switch hitters -- Rogowski, Young, Spidale, Owens(from the Escobar trade), and Brice. I'm pretty sure on about three of those, but I figured to be safe and ask anyways. Again -- any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

Newpaper: Vikings trade Moss to Raiders
CWSGuy406 replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
f***. Napolean Harris was a real favorite of mine, one of the few players from Northwestern who I always took an interest in. It'll be tough seeing him in that other, ugly looking purple... :puke -
*Official* College Basketball Thread

So, Brian, Steve -- I take it my 'Cats didn't do so well tonight, ehh? I thought they were gonna make a late run at the end ( ) -- hey, at least it they didn't lose by 40... -
QUOTE(farmteam @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 05:48 AM) Yeah, I noticed that with Kazmir. And Jason, I was thinking about adding a Soda Stand...I currently have just pizza and ice cream, and they sell pretty well. How much do you guys make (pure profit) a game? My last game, I think I made 330,000 or so. And that was the profit. However, it was a promotion game. I simmed a game and made 500K. Lower your ticket prices a bit more, just by five bucks, more people come. Folks -- I have a really huge favor to ask of you. I've decided within the last ten minutes that I'll be doing the minor league systems by myself this year (well, at least the top ten prospects from each team). Anyways -- What I need, is, if you see a player that is on the wrong team (like Sosa and Farnsy still on the Cubs), or a FA that has been picked up already, would you be able to let me know? This is for the original rosters, too... Your help would be greatly appreciated, as this next week is going to officially make me into a nerd (if I wasn't already), and the fun won't begin until I actually finish these damn things.
-
f***. Just found out that ps2rosters.com won't be releasing their rosters anywhere from 3-6 weeks, that's a b****. I might just have to spend a day or so doing it myself, as long as I get the top prospects, that's good. I'm gonna spend a s***load of time on the Sox minors, though. I'm definitely hoping to create just about everyone in the system, everyone who still has 'prospect' status, at least. Oh yeah -- another cool thing about this game is the 'Baseball America Top 100 Prospect' feature. For example, look at Nick Swisher -- go to his player profile, and flip through the different screens, and you'll see the little BA Top 100 logo.

QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Feb 24, 2005 -> 03:58 AM) I'm looking online for a list of the MAJOR transactions that i need to change in my rosters. Anyone find one? Sosa to Baltimore. Farnsy to Detroit. I gotta get X-Box live so it will automatically update those rosters.

And, here's the Pierzynski pic: (BTW -- Mods, I've never posted pics before, so if I'm not supposed to be doing this, let me know, and I'll take out the pic and just put in the link)

I think my sig has grown past it's time (though it's still awesome, Gold ). I really don't think the time is still now, but hopefully it will be in a couple months... Anyways -- I'd love for a signature with pictures of AJ Pierzynski and El Duque, saying something along the lines of "The Newest Battery". Any kind of backround is good, but preferably gray or black, with a black border -- nothing flashy, though, it'd be cool to be like the background on my current one. If you can find a Sox logo to put in the background, great, if not, that's cool too. No need to rush on it, I know there have been a lot of requests put in lately, and really, all of you who make these do an awesome job. I'm gonna go look on google to see if I can find a specific pics of AJ/El Duque that I'd like on there... Thanks to whoever makes it, it's much appreciated. EDIT: Ok, I found my El Duque pic -- hopefully there's an option on however you guys make these sigs that allows you to scale down the photo, but this pic is awesome (preferably without the signature in there).

I want to see Paul Konerko hit a wee bit better than .240 before I start handing him a contract worth over eight million per season. US Cellular Field tends to inflate numbers, and that's saying it lightly. If he's a guy who's going to barely give us a .700 OPS on the road, then I say you let him walk, and spend that money elsewhere in the offseason. Hell, I know a lot of people would be against this, but I don't doubt that Ross Gload can give us pretty good production (at least vs. righties) -- for league minimum, allowing you to load up elsewhere. And, Thomas >>>>> Konerko. Hands down, no questions asked, I'd take Thomas every day over Konerko.

This game f***in' rocks! Unfortunately, now I have to wait for ps2rosters to release the rosters for X-Box. After that, I'll go through the Sox minor league system and change the guys who I feel need to be changed. I also suggest that you guys edit some of the Sox players. For example, you might want to add a bit more velocity to Contreras' fastball -- for me, he was topping out at 94, isn't he usually around 96? And, I'm too lazy to look for one, but they have Damaso throwing overhand. One more thing -- make Pierzynski better too, he's definitely a lot better than what they have him at. Oh -- and El Duque's curveball is wicked sick. Slow as hell, but f***in' awesome -- best pitch on the Sox rosters, along with Shingo's frisbee.

Great win. Awesome job, Bulls!

QUOTE(JimH @ Feb 22, 2005 -> 11:58 PM) Keith, not to sound negative but if the White Sox need to rely on Harris to steal a base we are not in the greatest shape. Guillen reiterated today to the press that it's an open competition for 2B. That is, of course, the smart thing to say even if for some reason it's not entirely accurate. It makes perfect sense for Iguchi to be motivated, the same goes for Harris. Harris is still here and him having a good spring gives the White Sox options. As long as he is a White Sox I am rooting for him. C'mon all you stat heads ... I still cannot find the answer to whether Valdez or Ozuna have ever played 3B. That is a key issue in terms of the last couple of roster spots. I don't know for a fact but I'm guessing Guillen does not want his starting SS to be the backup 3B. Uribe is a very key guy in the whole equation, and the more comfortable and settled in he is, the better. I'll get on that -- I'll see if I can come up with something for your last question. And, I attribute being a good base stealer to confidence -- everyone knows Harris is fast enough, now he just needs that confidence. There's a reason they brought in Raines, and you know Podsednik will be teaching Willie (if he hasn't already) the tricks of the trade. EDIT: OK, Jim. I haven't found any minor league database that shows the positions that they played in the minor leagues, but BaseballCube, a pretty reliable place (they have HS stats, college stats, as well as full minor league stats) has Ozuna as played 2B/SS/CF, and Valdez as a 2B/SS.

Chris Duhon takes a lot of heat sometimes, but man -- he's perfect for this city. Definitely not the most talented, but his motor never stops, he's that blue-collar 'grinder' that is a typical Chicago kind of guy...

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Feb 23, 2005 -> 12:32 AM) A page back you see Willie showing Iguchi something, I have a feeling that reports of Willies departure have been vastly exaggerated. Good for the Sox that posters on this board do not make personal decisions for the White Sox. SB It's kind of funny. I look at another thread, and I see a picture of Iguchi swinging a baseball bat, and people are praising him for his intensity and focus. Yet -- over at WSI, and some people over here -- I see a picture of Willie Harris fielding a ground ball, and people are criticizing how he's fielding it, saying he's in a poor defensive stance. I really hope that Harris kicks ass at Tuscon. I'm sure he's as determined to prove the organization differently as just about any other guy down there...
-
Boy, he would have been a real nice addition to this team before Iguchi was added. I was all for a scenario in which Polanco played both 2B/3B, and you basically play the hot bat between Crede/Harris/Polanco. That said, I'm not b****ing that we got Iguchi. I think he could be a possibility if Crede doesn't produce well early in the season. He would be an ideal #2 hitter for this team, and a real good safety-net as a leadoff hitter incase Podsednik doesn't produce...
