  1. Alright, I'll take my shot in the dark... (And before I do -- I want to apologize to Randar, because, though I haven't seen you post a lot, you've hinted that this kid might do some damage -- i.e. good eye, but still raw...) Jerry Owens. I really hope he turns out to be something, because that was one of the best moves Kenny has made during his tenure, albeit a small move. Turning a waiver-wire pickup in Escobar into an older, but still raw and potentially very solid prospect in Owens.
  2. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:34 AM) Did you forget about the big $5.3 million signing bonus the Sox gave him? With his horrible offensive output, he pretty much HAS taken the money and run. He will probably be in the NFL in a couple year a la Drew Henson. Is it Borchard's fault the Sox gave him that much money? I'm sure that if you were offered $5.3, you wouldn't defer...
  3. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:23 AM) And how often does Borchie do that? He can't even reach the Mendoza Line. Joe has created the Borchard line by batting under .175. I think Kenny should dump him while he still has some trade value left after that big 2 homer game. We only have 1 more option on him. After that, he will have to clear waivers if we want to send him to the minors. No, it's just the constant ragging on Borchard that gets tiresome. Yes, he hasn't succeeded. But, it's not like he's taken the money and run -- from all accounts, he's one of the hardest workers -- unfortunately, working hard doesn't always translate. Maybe I'm a little biased because I'm probably the only person with a Joe Borchard jersey, but I dunno -- he seems like a blue collar guy who didn't make it. Oh well, move on...
  4. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 02:52 AM) I do the exact same thing. I don't even wanna get into it. I don't wanna start an argument even if they are clearly wrong. Just not worth the time. Yeah, I know what you're saying. If you want to, you could argue it -- but you know you do, you'll either a.) leave the person dumbfounded by their lack of understanding of a certain statistic or, b.) be made fun of for an knowing too much about a team, and being told to 'get a life', or something along those lines.
  5. QUOTE(Pauly8509CWS @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) Oh I see how it is, I'm not a good enough baseball person anymore??? lol Tom, you know how it is. I say the word 'OPS', heads are turning because they've become bored. Whatever.
  6. I'm gonna side with witesox and hammerhead here. Wood has a career ERA+ of 117 (for those not familiar, a 100 ERA+ is average). He's averaged a career 10.29 K/9 innings, which is absolutely filthy. Like witesoxfan said, just because he's oft-injured doesn't mean he's bad. Dusty ought to be smarter with the electric arms he's got in Wood, Prior, and Zambrano -- or else he's gonna f*** over their arms, and while I won't be crying if the Cubs pass this opportunity by without winning a title, it'd be a shame to see any of the above three's arms screwed up because of Dusty... While I don't exactly remember watching the game, I've heard people say that his 20K game is the best pitched game they've ever seen...
  7. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 02:57 AM) Because it is another at-bat wasted and another 200 outs for your team in a season! So are groundouts and flyouts. Sometimes those will result in moving a runner over, but it will also sometimes result in two outs being recorded on the same play. And, I'm not suggest Giambi as a leadoff hitter, he's just a nice guy to have at the September call-ups, and a nice guy to have off the bench...
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 02:52 AM) Whatever did Eddie Perez do to keep Giambi out of the MLB? BTW, Adam Dunn broke the record for most K's in a season...that TOO many. No thanks. Why's a strikeout viewed as such a bad thing?
  9. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 02:44 AM) Thats quite a few K's there huh? Meh -- Adam Dunn strikes out a lot, and I'd love to have him. Giambi's a nice pickup by Kenny. Unfortunately, everybody's favorite Perez will be blocking his entry to the big club...
  10. I know what you're saying, SF1. To tell you the truth, I don't really even talk to my friends about baseball very often... When you have to explain to them why Frank Thomas is still a great player, it gets tough. I just kind of nod my head when (some) of my friends are talking baseball.
  11. I'm out, off to play some poker. Anyways, just wanted to say that I'll closely be following Owens this summer. Looks like he has some good plate discipline, with some real nice speed -- if he could make it to the big leagues, it'd be damn nice to have a guy with Jeremy Reed's plate discipline and Scotty Podsednik's speed (not saying he's up there with either of the two quite yet).
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:23 PM) Yeesh, sweeney's swing is absolutely beautiful. Rowand, is this your first time seeing Sweeney live? Reason I ask, it's my first time, and he has an odd batting stance. Almost John Olerud like. But, that swing is BEAUTIFUL, like you said...
  13. Rowand, I definitely agree with yours and Jason's assessment of Diaz. I'm not saying he's going to be the staff ace or anything like that. I just don't think it's very good judgement to pass a total opinion on a guy when he's had very little time up at the major league level (and was really handled poorly by the Sox organization, IMHO). People seem to dislike that he hasn't shown control at the major league level, yet at AAA, he was very good at keeping batters off the base (as far as walking guys). I realize AAA and the majors are two different beasts, but I'm not ready to judge him quite yet...
  14. Ohh, damn. Jeff showing a nice little slider (or a curve) there, nice velocity too.
  15. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) I know he's got a good fastball (velocity wise), but don't really know how his offspeed pitch is. I think he throws both a curve and a slider..not sure on that though. Looks like we won't get a chance to tell you how Reynoso looks... Man-Hands is in.
  16. Sickels opinion on Bobby Jenks... Question: Answer:
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) How is Reynoso looking and what is he throwing? Looked good when he was in. I'll watch more carefully when he comes in next inning, Jason.
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:08 PM) Who you callin' a dips***? Aren't you late for study hall, son? Son? Ah, this is classic. Hey, Pablo Ozuna just got a hit. I guess he's an all-star...
  19. QUOTE(professionalfan @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:05 PM) Hey, I just got on. Can you tell me who has pitched so far? Thanks Buehrle pitched, pitched very well. Diaz pitched, meh -- not great, mediocre. Reynoso came in and bailed out Diaz. He's in right now.
  20. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:01 PM) Are you glad that Diaz just made you look stupid? Like I said, I'm glad you make your opinion based on such a huge size of IP at the major league level. Better yet, Spring Training. Aww, the dips*** sign isn't on the front page of smiley's...
  21. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) What is your lineup? Are you making or losing Money? Losing money. Podsednik Gooch Big Hurt Rowand Everett/Dye Pierzynski Gload/Ginter Uribe Crede
  22. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:58 PM) All you need to know is that he only has 2 pitches. That's why he gets rocked. I see three. Slider, fastball, changeup. As called by DJ and Hawk. But hey, I'm glad you know more than both of them -- or better yet, that you're a major league pitcher.
  23. And now the criticism can start. Go ahead, blast away. I just don't like seeing him getting criticized after pitching around the error, and getting one of the best lefties in the game out.
  24. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) yeah, I wasn't around... I searched for a bunch of white sox related names. The only thing that came up was McCarthy in a fantasy question. What time is this AQA till? I'd like to know what he thinks about Honel, or what the leaguewide view of him/his injury is.
