QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 10:09 PM) Agreed, people here are thinking that these games are needed to make the playoffs.. The first couple of weeks, players and pitchers work on s***.. No worries it good to see a bunt for a while. I'm not implying that we should be aiming to win these games, believe me. I won't be pissed if they lose, whatever, it's called Spring Training for a reason. I'm just stressing a concern that may or may not arise midseason, of Ozzie calling for a bunt in the wrong situation.
-
I'm really hoping this Owens kid makes it big. He sounds like a Scott Podsednik, probably not as good as far as stealing bases, but looks like he can (potentially) be a solid leadoff man -- by that, it sounds like he has a pretty good batting eye... Owens flies out. Valdez up.
-
Boy, this team is real bunt-happy, huh? I realize moving a runner over in the correct situation is a good thing to do, but I really didn't like Ozzie having Wilson Valdez bunt earlier in the game, I think it was the seventh -- when we were down by two. I know you don't want to sit back and wait for the big inning, but having a big inning isn't a bad thing, and we'll not have a lot of those if every time we get someone on first, it's bunt him over and hope for the best.

Going into the 8th, 3-3. Rogowski is up.

I just got home 15 minutes ago. I see Buehrle, Honel, Walker, and Jenks pitched. I know Jenks gave up that homer, but how did Buehrle and Honel look? Buehrle gave up two runs, both unearned -- how did it sound like he did? Looks like Honel did well, which is good. Ozuna having a damn nice day, Owens-Young look like they did alright today too. How about Sweeney/Anderson -- how are they doing today? I'm pretty pleased by Harris' day, seems as if he had a good day out on the field, advanced a runner, drew a walk, but was CS -- which, if you want to be aggressive, is gonna happen. Jim -- any comments on any of the guys above?
-
Jim -- I personally am listening to the game on AM 1000, but I'd like to compliment you on the PBP you've been doing the past two days. Awesome job, as always...

Pods with a leadoff bunt single.

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 3, 2005 -> 02:42 AM) Well, it almost makes sense. Wilson Valdez could backup Uribe at SS and Iguchi at 2B. Helms could backup Crede at 3B and provide the right-handed power bat off the bench that Kenny seemingly wants. We would would have a backup at every position and the righty bat that we need off the bench. So, we trade a guy who plays 2B and CF well, who also hits pretty well (or walks, for that matter) for a guy who can play more positions, yet poorer and does a worse job. Hmm... And we wonder why we haven't won a World Title since 1918. I know, I'm overreacting, but let's hope this is just a rumor. That'd be one really, really s***ty deal.

1st Round Pick Josh Fields with an RBI single!

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 09:59 PM) Nobody ever mentions how we got this guy in the CLee trade. I really hope that Podsednik and Vizcaino -- regardless of what the rest of the team does -- performs very, very well this season. Well -- let's hope that they're both big parts of our 2005 Division Championship, and hopefully more...
-
Jim, when are you going down to Tuscon?

OK -- nite, you said that the first year that you suggest to field a young, inexpensive team -- how's this look? Pitching Staff: Buehrle El Duque Oliver Perez B-Mac Bullpen: Munoz Cotts Hermanson Cruz Takatsu Marte Jenks C-Pierzynski 1B-Gload/Ginter 2B-Iguchi 3B-Crede SS-Uribe RF-Dye/Everett CF-Rowand LF-Podsednik I realize my lineup doesn't change a lot, other than dumping Konerko, but this is probably the least expensive I can make it without it being too boring (for me, at least).

6-4-3 Double play. No RBI for Rogo, but 1-1.

Anyone know if there's a pre-game show on ESPN 1000?

BUMP! Just under 16 hours until we see (or hear) our White Sox in action. Woot!

who would you like to see the bears draft

I'll throw some love out for Derrick Johnson. He's an absolute freak. Concentrate offense on the next couple of rounds, but take (arguably) the best athlete/defensive player in the draft in Johnson. -
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:17 AM) Because he isnt that good .... i was kind of hoping we would keep DT sign TJ Houshmandezeh and than draft Derrick Johnson.... our offensive line isnt great but i dont think its as bad as everyone makes it out to be either. Didn't our O-line give up the most sacks in the NFL last season? It's s***ty. And, I for one cannot wait to see Gage actually given an opportunity to play this next season. He can outjump just about any DB, and hopefully Turner integrates Gage into the redzone offense...

QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 08:52 PM) Gotcha Krush lol Another issue I have with this game. After adding Iguchi and calling up Vizcaino, the Sox MLB payroll is $69.2 million. Yet, the game lists player payroll at $89.7 million. Charlotte has a freaking payroll of $9 million. Birmingham's is $8.8 and Winston's is $2.2. None of that is realistic at all. No wonder nobody can make any money. They have an extra $20 million in payroll. Realistically, it should be $3-$5 million. Good point. My team at Charlotte is about 15 million, and my team at Birmingham is about 8 million, so there's 23 million for guys not even in my major league system. It's annoying as f***, too -- Brandon McCarthy is making 7 million per season, and he's nowhere near ready for the big leagues...
-
Yeah, good point. For the first time, I actually concentrated on the colors, and man -- did it help. I scored 6 runs off of Kevin Millwood en route to a 6-0 win. Oh, one more tip -- at least, I think this helps. You can't cover the whole plate. Concentrate on either taking the left part, or the right part of the plate (I concentrate on the spot that has more cold spots, because you know that the CPU is gonna nip at your cold spots). Can't wait to get out of school, and home from basketball, and play.

QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Grossman suffered a torn tendon in that finger and was not cleared to even throw the ball until the end of February of 2004. Yeah, that's a pretty serious injury in my book. If you wanna call a guy injury prone based on two injuries in his 6 years of football (college and pro), then that's fine. But I won't. And Hutch isn't terrible. I'm not going to call him a number one, but I'll be a lot more confident in our team with Hutch as our number two than a lot of other guys in the NFL. In fact, I'm super-confident in Grossman-Hutchinson-George-Krenzel as our four guys, Krenzel being on the practice squad (or someone drafted and brought in). EDIT: And one more thing. My position on the draft hasn't changed one bit. Grab Derrick Johnson, and watch this defense become one of the top five in the NFL -- this year. -
QUOTE(Soxnbears01 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 06:39 PM) When's the first televised ST game? I thought the first televised game was on Comcast, Wednesday. Is it just me, or am I totally confused by the thread...?

QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 02:58 AM) I don't get The Twins love, this is the year they crumble. I honestly am more worried about Cleveland than The Twins right now. Great bullpen. Improved offense. Johan Santana.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 28, 2005 -> 01:22 AM) I know what your talking about Brian. BTW, I'm playing right now. Sox 2, Indians 0. Bottom 1st. Thomas hit a 2 run bomb in the top of the 1st on a fastball up and in with Pods on base. El Duque is pitching to Belliard, 1 down. Are you playing on All-Pro? Err, All-Star?

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Feb 27, 2005 -> 07:33 PM) Excellent point WHArris1, he was awesome with Grossman in. You also have to factor in the injuries to the OL after Grossman went out too. Tucker, Tait, and Brown were all injured. Thomas, when given the chance this year, ran well behind the same offensive line that Jones ran poorly behind. I dunno, maybe it's just me and WS91, but after what -- four, five years in the NFL, you'd think that Jones would have done something worth a damn in his NFL career. I'll take the results, i.e. A-Train, over the toolsy guy, Jones. -
Anyone have any tips as far as hitting goes? I'm going to turn up User Contact a little bit more, and not trying to hit the home run every AB helps a lot too. But damn -- listen to my first game. I'm being two-hit the whole game, Buehrle pitched a complete game, giving up a solo shot to Blake. Iguchi comes up, I'm sitting on the inside pitch, and on an 0-2 count, Gooch jacks it into the LF foilage (there's trees in my LF). I was so happy. Unfortunately, two innings later, Vizcaino sucks ass and loses the game for me by loading the bases.
