White Sox v. San Diego (3/9/05)
CWSGuy406 replied to DonkeyKongerko's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:52 PM) You are such a little smart ass.. I know, I'm a real jagoff for being 16, huh? Some of the stuff on the board gets to me, though. I can take it when someone criticizes someone for doing something bad, but it gets to a point with some guys (like Borchard) where it's just being overkill. At least, IMHO. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:49 PM) He usually gets rocked, that's what. I crap my pants when he's on the mound. Hmm... Judging him off of last season, right around 50 IP? Ok, that's all I needed to know. -

QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) I'm glad that Felix isn't making it anywhere our roster this year. What exactly did he just do that was wrong? -
Just saw this thread. I'm in the process of sifting through the thread, and seeing if there's anything White Sox related/AL Central related in there...

Way to battle, Felix! And, nice grab by Sweeney to end the inning. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) who is Brian Diaz???? That'd be Felix Diaz, who is looking damn good. Error by Rogo, runner on first, two outs. EDIT: Just as I say that, he leaves a fat one right over the middle of the plate. Ugh, come on Felix. -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 05:24 AM) Ughhh, Joe still looks clueless even in his new photo... :headshake Jesus H', You're analyzing his photo. How f***ing pathetic... :headshake

Oh, talk about an awesome game. Great pitched game. Piniero and Garcia both pitched, Garcia for me (obviously) -- both were dominant, each only giving up two runs. Top of the tenth, Juan Cruz gives up his first run of the season, a solo shot to Jeremy Reed. Bottom of the tenth comes, I have to face Guardado. Keith Ginter leads it off with a single that just falls in front of Ichiro!. Next batter, Dye was guessing a pitch on the outside corner, but the pitch came inside. It breaks his bat, and it's a bloop, that lands right in shallow CF. Ginter reads it the whole way, so he advances to third. Runners at the corner, nobody out. Uribe K's on a changeup. Podsednik is up, and he's hitting .238. First pitch is a cookie, a mistake, and I foul it off. Next pitch, inside corner, I blast it. Now, I just think that it's a popup, but it keeps going and going. Ichiro! jumps, and doesn't make the catch. HOMERUN! White Sox 5, Mariners 3

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 01:53 AM) Willie, you da' baddest. Really. :headshake :puke I personally think that's hilarious, but to each his own...

Hmm... Zito. I know he seems appealing, but I really don't think he'd be effective pitching at the Cell. He seems the perfect candidate for a big park, like Seattle. I love the Brewers, but I'm hoping that they don't reach an extension with Sheets. I'd kill to see that guy in a Sox uniform, and not just someone from this site doing photoshop either...

QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) I cannot see the Sox drafting Weaver. They already have a contentious relationship with the family. If I recall, when the Sox drafted Jeff, his father had some not too friendly comments about the organization. Hmm... That'd probably throw a wrench into my hopes then, huh? Well, if Drew is there, I'd hope the Sox would grap him then. This organziation could use a top-notch MIF prospect...

QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) People have had pretty strong reactions to something they know very little about. Just wait a few days and see how it responds. Usually, knee problems, less than 25 years old, and catcher aren't phrases you want to hear in the same sentence.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 8, 2005 -> 12:51 AM) ummm KW didnt take over until what after the 2000 season and now we have one of the best pitching prospects in baseball not to mention Honel if he rebounds is still a very good prospect and Gio Gonzalez and Tracey both have high upsides. than we have 3 top 100 hitting prospects too... so as far as im concerned KW has done a great job in his drafting. Sorry for changing the topic a little bit, but if Honel rebounds and has an above-average season, and Tracey/Mac/Gonzalez continue on there ways without any significant injuries, I think one has to start looking at our minor league pitching (starting pitching, too) as pretty damn good, and probably the top third in the MLB. It would definitely be a joy to see Honel succeed, as he's a local kid -- but man, if Mac/Tracey/Gonzalez all pan out, I think we're looking at one hell of a staff the next five-ten years. And, I'm still holding out hope that the Sox will take the risk (pay the man, as we don't have any supp. picks or second rounders) and go after Jered Weaver, as the two sides (Angels and Boras) have totally split, apparently. Man -- if the Sox got Weaver, I'd be one happy, happy person, as well as Jason and many others...

I'd still take Johnson fourth... I know I've been harpin' on that for awhile now, but I think he's gonna be an absolute stud (not to say Benson won't be). Imagine, two elite linebackers to build our franchise around, along with Briggs who is on the brink of being an All-Pro. Rivera would be drooling over all the defensive possibilities with those three...

I still seem to think that the best option to provide depth at a lot of positions, as well as overall smarter moves would be to get rid of Timo, and to keep Burke up rather than Davis, and keep Valdez/Ozuna. I'd do this because Davis is a .229 hitter vs. lefties in the past three years, and we don't have a catcher who can hit lefties very well. And, while Burke isn't a great option at third or the corner OF spots, he can still play them. And, well -- I think Timo doesn't do much for us, with Harris/Gload doing basically all that he does. But -- if he hits well in the clutch for us this season, I'll back off of him going into next year.

So what if they're facing ''lesser'' opposing pitchers? While that might increase the W/L total by one or two, it certainly won't improve their ERA or WHIP -- they're still facing the same hitters that Garcia/Hernandez will be facing...

Frank, along with Podsednik, will be the main factors in whether or not our offense is below average or above average. Here's to a healthy and productive season, 35!

For those who actually made a profit in Owner Mode, I have a few questions: -First -- what should I charge for tickets for those low-impact games, like against Tampa, Kansas City, or Seattle? I tried charging lower, but even though more people attended, I made less profit. Any ideas there? -Second -- for the higher impact games, like New York, Boston, and Minny, what should I charge? -Finally - can someone just put out some tips as to how to make a profit? I'm having a real tough time (thus far -- but then again, I like to play most of my games, so I won't know my season profit for a while) making money. Any help?

QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) Are they replaying the game later tonight? I forgot all about it and didn't set the VCR I'm almost positive that there is a game replay either later that night, or the following day, but don't quote me on it.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 7, 2005 -> 04:18 PM) Kinda confusing. Talks highly of everyone excpets Pods, gives the Pen props, gives the starters kind words, then predicts an 80-82, third place finish???? He doesn't really talk highly of anyone in our lineup except for Konerko and Rowand. He like Dye a bit, and he feels that Uribe and Iguchi are both capable of putting up solid numbers, but other than that, he doesn't really like our lineup at all...

Meh -- Flavor of the month, yeah, maybe... Long term? No chance. These guys (Goodenough and Bettman) need to put their ego's aside and get this done. Unfortunately for the players, there's no chance that the owners are going to bend even the slightest bit now. They had their chance, that chance is gone -- the owners are going to get a plan in place, that they like. The NHLPA can shout day and night how they're not split, and have their members revoke statements about how leadership hasn't been clear to them, but you saw the 'PA folding as that deadline came closer and closer. Next year, if a deal isn't in place, the same thing will happen. The veterans who haven't played in a year will (many of them) retire, and many will cross the line and play with the replacement players. I really hope it doesn't get to that point, because it'll get real, real ugly if it does...

I tend to think of this one as more objective than the other ones that I've read (you can make the call on that), so I figured I'd post it. It seems this guy took some time to think about it rather than throw some s*** down on paper about us... Battersbox.com (Blue Jay's Fan Blog/Discussion Site) Even though he gives our pitching staff some credit, I don't feel that he credits it enough. I think that Contreras will make our rotation, at worst, average (if he sucks), or one of the better ones in the AL (and Addison's been saying that we'll live and die by Jose -- I won't go that far, but he's a huge key, for sure). He acknowledges that 'when El Duque actualyl pitches', he's dynomite -- just gotta keep him healthy (105 pitches and under, Ozzie!). I don't think he gives Pierzynski (specifically) enough credit, but with the rest of the offense, I tend to agree with him. What happens with our MIF's will be a great factor in how our offense do (as far as Iguchi adjusting, and Uribe repeating last year). And, looks like Rowand is starting to get a lot of love -- glad to have him on the Southside, that's for sure. Overall, I agree with what he said -- a few quirps here and there, but overall, I agreed with it. I'd say we're right around a mid-eighties-win team, with a midseason aquisition, I can see us in the mid-to-low 90's.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 02:51 AM) Interesting part of the article to me was they booed him for having a bad April. I don't think Sox fans would bury a guy after one month like that. We've had several Sox start slowly before and I don't remember anybody getting booed. As long as the team isn't buried in April, I don't see any reason for a plethora of boos. Speaking of which, in 2003, did how long was it till we started booing Paul Konerko? And, IIRC, if we did boo Konerko, it was more of a motivational boo, a 'light a fire under his ass' boo, rather than a 'you suck and we dislike you' boo, which is what I take from the article...

QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Mar 6, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) w00t. Changing MVP's in game music to music that I can actually bear. Can you explain how to do that (assuming you're using X-Box)?
