QUOTE(munchman33 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 02:43 AM) Well, based on the fact that Contreras has never had a losing season, I'd say your pessimism is more trolling than anything. Or, maybe his career ERA+ of 95 says that he's a below average pitcher. Geez -- a person states on opinion that is saying that a particular player might not do as well as some people hope, and certain people jump all over him for it (not talking about santo, either). I wish there's a "You're a dumbass" sign, because that post deserves it.

I feel stupid for asking, but Robin who? We talking Ventura?

I'm watching the replay now, and I love El Duque's eephus -- that pitch is f***in' awesome!

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 06:45 PM) I haven't heard anyone say it's "not a big deal". Only that it's not right to blacklist someone from the majors. As long as he's done with it, I'm okay with the signing. And if the minor league testing applies, I'm not too concerned. Btw, why does the fact that he "hasn't done s*** in his career" matter? It would be okay if he were better? I agree. He's admitted it. He made a mistake. He hasn't gone into denial like some of the other alleged players. Move on -- as long as he's still not using, that's fine with me.

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 05:33 PM) Still think it's a good signing. Nothing's going to convince me otherwise. He'll add depth to the minors and could be a good bench player if he does come up. No biggy. And at least he's not in total denial about the steroid use. People make mistakes. It's good to see that he might even be part of that group that goes out and tells his tales of why not to take steriods...

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 04:08 AM) when he gets into trouble, he just uses his splitter, the hitters know it, which is why he walkis so many guys. Brandon McCarthy i dont care how much exp. bmac has, i would prefer him over contreras, he actually has confidence in his stuff. he didnt have his best stuff against texz, yet he gave up one hit. >ozzie said contreras pitched good today :headshake I also like B-Mac, but if you're gonna judge a guy on a couple of Spring Training games, I guess Pablo Ozuna should be an All-Star this year...

I'm hoping Andy Gonz bounces back. It'd be nice to have a couple of real nice OBP guys down on the farm, with he and Rogo... Plus, if he comes through and has a solid year, we'll actually have a MIF prospect worth a damn down there. Jason or Dan, how is he defensively?

QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 12:15 AM) Yet so true. People have already annointed him a HOF and the best leadoff hitter ever. No -- but he's gonna be one hell of a leadoff hitter/number two up in Seattle. I like Freddy and all, but I can't honestly say that I don't wish Reed still wasn't with the Sox...

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 01:46 AM) I hope he starts in the minors, but I can't agree with this reasoning. Why does the number of pitches matter? Lots of pitchers do well with 3 (good) pitches. I agree. A lot of major leaguers throw four or five pitches, yet they throw them real s***ty. I like the approach Brandon is taking. Nothing fancy -- fastball, changeup, curveball -- and he's "mastered" (I don't want to say mastered, because he still has to work on them some, but he can throw these two pitches where he wants to basically) the fastball and the curveball. Let him refine his changeup, and he'll be dynomite if he can throw the fastball, change, and curve -- all where he wants to put them.

Geez... I like the guy too, but has he even pitched 50 innings above or at AA yet? I'd prefer for him to start at AA, prove he can handle it, then move him up to Charlotte. No need to rush him, IMHO...

Stoudamire is absolutely going off. Arizona has 39 points, Salim has 21 of them...

For those not watching, Kansas is down by three to OSU with about four minutes left in the game. And it's an absolutely awesome game. I don't care for either team (though I'm rooting for OSU), and these two teams are battling. It's on ESPN2...

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 04:31 AM) Who cares. This is a serious issue right now. A man's mother has passed. Stop worrying about your threads. So disrespectful. :headshake Yeah, seriously... :banghead My thoughts and prayers go out to the Weber family... -
If you guys want, I can post my sliders. They're very similar to Pared's, but I've changed some things. It's a lot of fun. I've played @ Oakland the past two days, losing both games in extra innings -- one game 4-3, one game 6-5. In both games, I deserved to lose. Lots of times I had a runner on third with less than two outs, and I failed to drive the guy home...

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 07:46 PM) I'm pretty excited about the Sox farmhands. We have the pitching with B-Mac, Arnie, Felix, Neal, Jon, Enemencio, etc and we have the hitting in Anderson, Fields, Sweeney, Burke, etc. I feel that in 5 years, this Sox team could be full of young talent and resemble a team like the Padre's of today or even the A's of last year. I don't mean to come off as a jag, but don't get your hopes up. Our system is developing, but it's nowhere near as good as the A's system...

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) This signing is a nothing move. It provides minor league depth, that's all. Besides minor league testing is WAY more stringent than major league testing, so if he is still involved in this stuff, he will be busted and gone ASAP. I think he could be a real nice addition to the bench, if they (the Sox) let him be. Not very often can you have a guy with a career .377 OBP on your bench -- it's a nice luxury to have, I hope the Sox make use of it...

How's Northwestern doing? I'm at school, unfortunately... Can someone give a quick update, within the next five-ten minutes?

QUOTE(Tannerfan @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 06:43 PM) I just don't think Crede is ever going to be a big time player. He's just another in a long line of guys who starred in AAA, and are not good enough in The Show. What exactly has Ozuna done at the major league level to earn a starting spot? EDIT: Ah, I see qwert and DBaho have already taken care of this...

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 11, 2005 -> 01:15 AM) Looks like RotoWorld thinks so..................... Brandon McCarthy yielded just one hit in four scoreless innings against the Rangers today. Hank Blalock doubled to become the only batter to reach base against McCarthy. With the way Jose Contreras and Orlando Hernandez have looked so far, there's a real chance the White Sox are going to need McCarthy by July, maybe sooner. While most of the time Rotoworld is pretty funny, their remarks on Contreras and Hernandez are absolutely stupid. Basically saying that they won't succeed based on four f***ing starts between the two? That's absolutely stupid...

I really don't like placing an age on when a guy should/shouldn't be brought up. If a kid is ready, you'll know it, whether he's 19 years old, or 24. I'd like B-Mac to start off at AA (as he didn't have much time there last season), and make the jump to AAA if he proves he's still dominating at Birmy.

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Scary trend: The Sox are scoring all their runs in one game again. I was hoping for a lot of 3-2, 5-2, 1-0 wins this season. Hopefully this is just coincidence and out of the ordinary due to ST. PS: Brandon running over to first on the soft toss from Paulie was very reminiscent of a baby giraffe. Meh, I wouldn't fret about it too much if I were you... Remember, Ozzie is running everybody this spring, just to get a feel for who can run, who can't -- that's one reason why some of our runs have been 'taken away'. We should have a real, good feel for this team by the end of May.

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 07:24 PM) We play NW tomorrow, who hung on to beat Mich Brian scared that the 'Cats gonna take down the Illini? I'd love to see NU hang in tomorrow's game, but I doubt that happens...

QUOTE(Ishmookie @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:41 AM) jeremy giambi was on roids before just like his brother. i dunno how much his numbers matter if that was the case. Jeremy Giambi's worth comes from the fact that he's able to draw a walk at a damn good pace. He's not the guy to go to when you need contact, or a homerun. If Giambi was on 'roids, I doubt they helped him much. Like I said, the only reason he's still around is because he has a career .377 OBP (not saying that's a bad thing)... -
QUOTE(Jabroni @ Mar 10, 2005 -> 03:55 AM) The Sox gave Borchard that much money because he looked like he deserved it from the way he hit at Stanford. Has he earned even $1 million of that $5.3 million? Hell no. Well, it's Sox management's job to project what Borchard's going to be, and give him money based on what they think he's going to be. Anyways, I'm not going to argue with you, it's clear Borchard didn't live up to the hype, no doubt. But alright, life goes on -- it's overkill at this point, nothing anyone says about how he sucks is any different than what anyone else has said... We've drifted off-topic, my bad for the initial hijack.
