Let me be the first to say a big congrats to Marc Columbo. That injury in 2002 was absolutely terrible (I remember like it was yesterday -- against the Rams, it was awful) -- I honestly thought, when I saw the injury, that he'd never make it back to the field. All reports have been that Columbo worked his ass off to get back into this kind of shape. Congrats, Marc, and bring some stability back to the LT position!

No, you're definitely right -- because the same thing happened in 2002 too. Tucker, Miller, Terrell, Washington, Traylor -- 2002 was injury hell too...

Can someone do the math here? I'm just trying to figure out -- that, if we do make this trade -- will there still be money left over to fill some other holes? I assume that the Vizquel thing is pretty much set in stone. If a trade of PK + JG for RJ goes through, we still have a couple of holes to fill: reliever, 5th starter, and (preferably, because I don't want to see Carl Everett in RF every day) a RFer (Jermaine Dye would put up monster numbers here, IMO).

What these outside people commenting on the situation don't understand is that there's really no other option for this team. A.) Renteria isn't an option. We need a fundamental player, and while Renteria can probably do all of the little things, Jerry isn't gonna pay for him. Renteria isn't a leadoff hitter, and that's what we need (even though Renteria led off a bit in the playoffs). B.)Cabrera isn't what we need. Not a very good OBP, good at other aspects, but again -- someone is gonna dish out some money for this kid. C.) We have no other in-house options. The club isn't confident to with Harris-Uribe as 2B-SS respectively, and the Sox seem to want to keep Uribe at 2B/utility for the time being. Valdez is not an everyday starter. Four million, ehh, so what. Is it overpaying a bit? Yeah, maybe. But it's not like we're handing out a five year contract here. Kenny seems very confident that at the very least, we'll be getting a .250+ average with plus defense and veteran leadership. I think some of these people are making a bit too big of a deal over this 'overpaying' crap... JMHO.

My apologies for any problems I caused, Cheat and SS2k. I was a bit riled up last night, should have just let it be. Go Sox!

Say this trade goes through... Am I the only one who thinks, over the course of a season, Felix Diaz, at the very worst, would be able to put up at worst, a 5.50 ERA? I think he's got good enough control to where, he'd be a decent enough fifth starter. I sure as hell don't want Grilli, who has absolutely no control and not very good command, making many starts at the Cell.

When you haven't won a World Series in 85+ years, and haven't reached a World Series in 40+ years, you gotta take some f***in chances. As long as the prospects don't include Anderson, Sweeney, or McCarthy, I'm definitely for this deal... It's gonna be an interesting two weeks around here, that's for sure.
-
IIRC, we should be getting Tillman back within the next couple weeks. Probably two or three weeks still, but something to look forward to...
-
As crazy as it sounds, you're not the only one thinking about that, Harris... Don't feel that way, because I started thinking about that before the friggin' game was over...
-
Awesome play by Vasher. f***ing AWESOME! Great job defense!
-
I'm indifferent to it. If Shingo happens to win it, great for him - just some nice recognition for a hell of a year that he had. If he doesn't win it, oh well, no big deal -- doesn't take anything away from what he did this year.
-
Am I the only one crackin up just by watching Tom Coughlin? He's gonna have a heart attack, honest to God. He's going nuts, LOL!
-
Awesome job by the defense tonight. What an effort... Next year, when we have Brown and Tillman back, this defense is gonna be friggin' awesome. It's already solid, but adding a Pro-Bowler like Brown back to the defense will be huge. And one more thing. Mike Green is playing awesome, and when Brown comes back next year, Green has earned his stripes as the starting SS across from Brown. Nice job, Michael!
-
Well, not seven, but we get 3... Great job, defense. Great f***ing job...
-
YAHAAAAAA! I LOVE THIS! LET'S GO BEARS! LET'S GO BEARS!
-
This is how Lovie wants this team to play football. This is f***in awesome!
-
What's gotten into this offense? Two plays, 63 yards, and a touchdown. 14-7 Giants. Go Bears!
-
Azumah with the strip! Vasher picks it up! Great play, ZOOOM!

I'd definitely take Kim as a guy out of the bullpen, but I don't want him starting. Kim's best asset is his deceptive pitching motion, and if teams are seeing him every fifth day, they'll be able to have more success against him. But in the bullpen, I'd definitely like Kim...
-
Yeah guys, I mean, come on; he'll never be as good as the best defensive player in baseball, the best gap hitter in baseball, Orlando Cabrera... :rolly

If we trade Garland and Borchard for Kendall, now we have two holes in the rotation, and now - we have another huge contract on our hands. And, leaving the money aspect out of it... Kendall>>>>Konerko. Fact is, we need a more well rounded team, and while it's all well and good that Konerko crushes the ball at home, he's terrible on the road. If we can't win on the road, we won't win. I do this deal if, like Cheat said, you can get Pittsburg to eat some off of the backend of the contract.... (and you know, throw in Oliver Perez as well ).
-
Cheat, do you have a Hardball Times link explaining ERA+ and OPS+? Is that with park factor adjustments, or what makes the ERA+/OPS+ different from regular ERA/OPS?
-
Like witesoxfan said in the other thread, your post lost all credibility right there. Cabrera isn't even the best SS in the AL East; nor is he the best defensive player on his team...
-
I know I'm repeating myself, but I'd definitely make this move. Say we trade Paully for Kendall, and have Pittsburg eat half of Kendall's contract (IIRC, his contract is somewhere around 12 million). So, now we have a lineup of (assuming Vizquel is inked to a deal with us): C-Kendall SS-Vizquel DH-Thomas LF-Lee RF-Everett CF-Rowand 1B-Gload 2B-Uribe 3B-Crede Now, we'd have an excellent top of the order vs. lefties and righties (switch Rowand and Vizquel when vs. a LH pitcher). Then, we have to figure out how to aquire a pitcher. I'm iffy on having this organization ink another pitcher to a multiyear contract. But I do like the move. If Kenny were to somehow acquire a reliever from Pittsburg along with Kendall, however, I'd like the move a lot more. I would do this deal, though. Definitely.
-
SSI, I totally agree with you. I'd definitely do that trade, as long as the other offer (Hudson for Paully - obviously not straight up, though) was false. I've always liked what Kendall has done, and he would make this team a hell of a lot better. Immediate help at the top of the lineup, plus a pretty solid defensive catcher. Mark me down on the Kendall bandwagon (that makes two bandwagons for me -- Hairston and Kendall ).
