Poorme, just a small complaint - on the website that I find WinShares, I have Lee ranked 10th in the AL (tied with four others, IIRC)...
-
I'm glad you brought up the win shares stat. (While what I'm about to post doesn't have much to say with the topic, here goes.) I tried reading Bill James' Win Shares book -- didn't get through it, but I got the general idea of it. IMHO, it's one of the better ways in evaluating a player. IIRC, they factor in all of the park factors, AL/NL factors, fielding, hitting, baserunning - everything, and put it into one stat. It also puts pitchers and hitters on an even field for evaluation. While I don't think stats are the total basis of player evaluation, they are a pretty big part of it...

I agree with everything you and dan said. No need to harp your 'rules' on what other people do. Poker and drinking are fun. I like having fun. So, I'll play poker and drink (occasionally).

And the first pitch, Schilling gets inches off the outside corner. Great. :rolly

Who ya Gonna Call? Quinn,Krenzel,or Hutchinson?

Who's our LT - arguably the most important position on the O-Line (protecting Grossman's backside)? We don't have one. If there's a Robert Gallery type LT, I'm grabbin' him first. If that isn't there, I'm loading up on defense... Then again, Mike Williams... Is really good. -
I believe what Knuckle was trying to say that there's no certainty that Randy will do the same this season, which really doesn't make a lot of sense, but - just trying to clear that up. A healthy Randy Johnson for a whole season will give us 18+ wins, with, at most, a 3.50 ERA. (*I shouldn't be implying that I think he'd stay healthy for all of the season - there'd probably be some bumps along the way...*) I also agree with what beck72 said in that Big Unit will probably cost less than Schilling, mainly because a.)Schilling was 37-38 when they made the trade; Johnson will be what, 41? b.)This is Johnson's last year on the contract, and if a team is willing to eat most of the contract, the lesser prospect/people we'll have to give up.
-
With this in mind, I could really see this being a possible trade for them: Konerko + Crede + Diaz and/or Munoz + Low Level Prospect (PTBNL) for Johnson, with us eating all of RJ's contract, them eat Konerko's (if that makes any sense). I know there's a chance that Kenny can get burned on a deal like this, but think of all the plus sides. Season ticket sales would go pretty high after a deal like this; plus, we'd finally have a true ace on this team. Not a number one/two guy, a real stopper. Hell, Buehrle as your number three? That's f***in' awesome. A couple untouchables (IMHO) in (besides the obvious guys) Lee, Rowand, McCarthy, Anderson, and Sweeney. Damn, this is gonna be won fun offseason.

Anyone else really, really impressed by Tommie Harris? I realize he took a stupid penalty, but he is playing so f***in' well right now. He's getting some awesome, AWESOME jumps off the ball. I wanna see more from Tank, though. But - this might be the year where we get the first pick. I think we're definitely going to get a top ten pick, and at this point -- we're probably going to get a top five. Cornerback (Rolle, Webster), Wide Receiver (Williams, Williams, and... Williams), or Left Tackle (Don't have any names here). -
What do you guys think of Konerko + Crede + Prospect for Johnson? I dunno if they'd take that, but that'd be a nice deal, especially if the prospect wasn't one of Anderson, Sweeney, or Mac. If they wanted to dump salary, they could give us Hillenbrand too - but I'm really in no position to judge the Arizona's stance going into next season.

Are you even watching the game? When the pocket collapses within two seconds, you can't blame the QB... :rolly -

I'd rather have another shutdown corner. If you give Lovie Tillman and Webster/Rolle, you're giving him two above average corners -- which means a lot to how he blitzes, stuff like that. Right now, our receivers aren't the problem. It's the QB that's the problem, and Grossman was doing awesome before he got injured. Besides, we're modeling this offense after KC. They don't have a spectacular receiver, but a solid TE, a solid running game too - difference is our defense can actually play. As for the score, 17-6; Bucs win... -
I assume that depends on how much of the contract we're willing to eat. If JR was willing to eat all of the contract -- while sending them one of our bigger contracts in Konerko or Lee -- then I'd think that we'd only have to give up one of our bigger prospects... BTW, Beastly, if we got Johnson - he'd be our ace, not Garcia. Not saying Garcia is bad, but Johnson is one of the best pitchers in baseball. Damn, that'd be nice though. Buehrle as our number three? s***, s***, s***!

We're not hardcore gamblers. We do it to have some fun, it's a good game - and everyone loves money (you do love money, right? or, at least like it a little bit? Can I even say that about you -- don't wanna offend ya...). It's just to have a good time with your buddies... The other night, I was feelin' down, feelin pretty s***ty -- played in a five dollar buy in and took home like twenty bucks or so. Poker is awesome!

Yeah, seriously... What a bulls*** call for strike three. Inches off the inside corner, and he gets the call. Awful call there... EDIT: And the replay shows, Foulke gets right around four inches off the inside corner for strike three. What bulls***. -
Yeah, I really shouldn't say 'drinking' in there. I'm not a hardcore drinker at all, I just do it to have a good time, really. I don't get piss-ass drunk every weekend. But yeah, poker r0xxxs!

Gambling, Drinking, and the White Sox. My life in a nutshell. (Throw in a pinch of the Bears, a tad of Blackhawks, and some high school basketball, and you have my total life! ).

Those guys sing the anthem so well. Quick and to the point, they actually say the correct words. I get chills when I'm standing their in the UC. -

Ugh - Aerosmith is ok, but I'll take one of the Operah singers that the 'Hawks always get to sing their anthems any day. Tony, you know the guys I'm talkin' about, right? -

LET'S GO CARDINALS! CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP -
FWIW, Damon has batted above .270 in all but one year - and in that year, he hit .256. So, he's a pretty consistent player. I dunno if he's worth the money he's making, but I'd take him -- considering the correlation with how our offense performs and how our one and two hitters perform. (I think it's pretty fair to say our offense is one of the best in the majors when our leadoff hitters get on base, but that's a pretty general comment...)
-
Hmm. I count three times near .380 (.380, .382, .379) and most other times, right around .350. While a .350 OBP isn't spectacular, it's still solid. And that's about the worst that you'll get from him, too (he has had worse years, but he's seemed to have developed into a pretty consistant player)... And - I dunno, maybe you weren't watching, but one specific correlation was made with Boston's success -- Damon's success. Well, at least that's what I saw. Damon got on base, Boston scored. Damon didn't get on base, Boston really didn't score...
-
Damon's .380 OBP sucks?

I agree. GB/FB ratio isn't the only stat on which we should be judging pitchers. We really need to look at the whole package of the pitcher - K/9 IP, WHIP, GB/FB, BB/9. We also need to realize - like ws61382 said - that any pitcher is going to be affected by pitching here for a whole season. If we were to make this trade, it'd be a pretty big risk for this organization. It'd mean that, going into next season, we'd have right around 30 million invested in our pitching staff alone. However, that would give us another guy who is capable of pitching as a number 2-3, with very good stuff. A lot of people on this board have the thoughts that a pitcher will come our way through a trade rather than through free agency, and I think I'm starting to lean that way too. Lots of names being thrown around here, it's gonna be a fun offseason, that's for sure.

FWIW, Vazquez is signed through the 2007, and is scheduled to make roughly 11.25 million per year (per dugoutdollars). If you could get the Yankees to eat five million of that per year, then I'd do it. It would help them a lot out, too. It would allow really free them up of some salary and allow them to throw any kind of money they want at Beltran - it would also free them up in their pursuit of Randy Johnson. Vazquez would really fill out this rotation nicely, IMHO. Should be interesting, nonetheless.
