No, actually he doesn't. But then again, the way you backed up your statement, I mean - how can I argue with you? But Jeckle - Jonny doesn't deserve any praise. Like everyone else has said in the thread, he regressed this year. I'm happy with the innings he gave us, but overall, I was expecting better from Garland. I'll be happy to have him as our number five starter next year, but I want to see some improvement.
-
Ditto - he was the same guy licking Esteban Loaiza and Brian Cashman's collective knob's on the day of Loaiza's first start. He kept saying how had Loaiza not given up two homers, he would have had a great start. Worst analysis ever, like R44 said...

Damn. US Cellular Field really is a b****. Perhaps Kenny should ask Jerry to move the fences back a bit, if we want to gear this team towards pitching and hitting. Hell, let's make this a nice spacious place where line drive & gap hitters thrive - not to mention the pitchers. Great year, Marcus! Can't wait to watch ya next year.
-
Can Carl Everett play first base? That would help this team out a lot - if he could even play average defense at first base. That way, we'd be able to trade Paully, and be confident that a platoon of Everett/Gload would be able to, at the very least, hit around .250 or so and be able to drive in some runs. It would also unclog our OF situation for next year.

Why the hell would Omar Manaya want anything to do with Sammy Sosa? I highly - highly doubt it. BTW - great move by the Mets, getting Manaya in there...
-
OK - thanks for finding that, Tony. Now, Kenny, just go and grab Jerry Hairston to play second and Johnny Damon to play center - plus grab that FA starting pitcher with an improved bullpen - and we got ourselves a team.
-
I also think that Uribe is going to be penciled in at either 2B/SS to start next year. Great defensively, and a streaky bat. I won't be too mad about that either, he's a solid ballplayer.

I know that this board as a whole has a collective lust for JoeBo, but I'm still cheering for him. I'm hoping he can still become at least a .250 hitter with a lot of power... The guy works hard, he's just gotta put it together.

Joe Borchard! Homers! Is Buehrle still in the game? I need a win from him tonight...
-
LOL - so now we're comparing Moyer to Garcia?

Oakland's lineup is consistent, at least. They play defense well, too. There's a lot of players in that Oakland lineup I'd love to have on the Southside (Byrnes, Kotsay, Durazo, Chavez - just namin a few). It should be fun, but I'll be pullin' for the Angels. I don't want Oakland to make the playoffs, just so I can stick it to my brother that his team didn't make the playoffs...

Stone seems to be the perfect combination between smarts and just having gut decisions. I can listen to him analyze a game anytime, it's a shame that he's next to Chip Carey... I'd sure take him as our manager. He realizes that guys with good OBP should be at the top of the order (seems so simple, yet so many managers refuse to acknowledge it). He also realizes that if a guy can practice bunting, and learn how to bunt for a hit - that he can be a real damn good threat. He's also smart when it comes to in game decisions, and he knows his stuff. Ok - I'm done stroking Stone... Go Astros! Go Giants!

I'm real iffy on Clement. Earlier in the year, I was on his bandwagon, but with his recent injury - plus the amount of breaking pitches he throws, I really don't want to pay him a lot of money. I think Pedro and Pavano will get the biggest bucks on the market this winter (well, duh). Perez, IMHO, is the pitcher we should go after. I'd like to have two lefties in this rotation, with all of the left handed hitters that are coming through this division (Kubel, Mauer, Morneau, Hafner, Martinez). Buehrle, Garcia, Perez, Contreras, and Garland would be pretty solid - and if Garland/Contreras were to continue there inconsistency through next season, I think that Felix Diaz would be a viable replacement - if used properly, not on three days rest or ten days rest. But I've been preaching this for awhile now - we can have all of the good starters we want - and it won't mean jack-s*** unless we have a bullpen worth a damn behind them. Teams with good bullpens, good starting pitching, and consistent lineups win the Title.

Did anyone watch the broadcast on WGN? When Valentin was up, Stone kept saying how he'd IBB Valentin and pitch to the next guy. And when Valentin hit the double, Stone was like, "If it were me, I'd have walked Valentin. But I guess Dusty has a difference of opinion, so that's that." I think Stoney is a great broadcaster - I'd love for him to be the manager of the Sox, and I'm honest about that. He's a very smart man.

ASTROS f***ING WIN! YES!
-
Renteria strikes out! TWO OUTS! Rolen on first. Two out. Top 9. 6-4 Astros. Mabry FLIES OUT! ASTROS WIN!
-
Leadoff walk for Rolen, but Lidge strikes out Edmonds. He is three K's away from tying the NL record for K's by a reliever. He has 148 in just over 91 innings. f***ing awesome stuff...

Do you guys remember earlier in the season when Carlos went on that 27 game hitting streak? Well, yeah, most of you probably remember - but I'm thinking of the story I heard a few days after the streak had ended. I heard that he actually went to Greg Walker and said he was dissappointed that he wasn't hitting enough homers, and that he wanted more power... I was just like - damn - after seeing that article. It really made me angry, because if Carlos took the approach that he took during that hit streak - using all fields, putting nice swings on the ball, being patient, and letting the home runs come to him - he'd be a .330 hitter with a .400+ OBP. I really wish Carlos hadn't changed his swing from what he was doing during the hit streak. I'll take 30 percentage points over ten extra homers any day... But back to the topic, if one of Lee/Konerko have to go, I'd have to say Konerko should go. I love both of 'em, but we need to fill more holes - and trading either one of them should fill at least two, maybe even three holes.

Miceli strikes out the side. Going into the bottom of the eighth, 6-4 Astros. I'd leave Miceli in there to close it out, give Lidge a day of rest unless Miceli gets into some trouble. In other news, San Fran scores two in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead on the Padres...
-
Dan Miceli is now pitching, and he strikes out the first guy he faces. The Cards are down to five out. Come on, Stros bullpen!
-
Wow... Kent rips it, off the glove of Rolen, right to Renteria. Score it 5-6-3. But the damage is done!
-
Very, VERY stupid pitching there by SUppan. It looked like they were going to unintentionally intententionally walk him. BERKMANN RIPS IT INTO THE LEFT CENTER GAP! BAGWELL IS SAFE! 6-4 ASTROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Looks like Suppan will walk Bagwell to get to Berkman. Nevermind, I guess not, as Bagwell smokes a ball into LF for a single. 5-4 ASTROS!@
-
Beltran grounds out to first. Taveres moves over to third. Two out, runner on third. Bottom of the seventh, tied at four. Huge duck on the pond right here. Absolutely f***ing huge... Come on Bagwell...
-
Sacrifice bunt by Biggio. Beltran to hit.
