My bad, just got home from a night with my girlfriend. My apologies for bringing it up again.

Holy s*** guys, settle down. It's an easy mistake that MoS made, hell, I see his point. Can we make a rule from now on that we entitle the threads something that make is sort of obvious? When I saw the thread 'Welcome', I didn't associate it with the Bears, to tell you the truth. Can we make it, 'Bears Sign Hutchinson' or something like that next time? Just, what I'm trying to say - no need to get into a big fight over something petty like this...

I agree with both yours and chimpy's assessments. IMHO, our top three needs are WR, LT, CB (No specific order). I think that if we have the first pick, Mike Williams should be taken. Hands down, JMHO. After that, I don't know college football well enough, but if there's a Robert Gallery like LT, I'd take him. However, if Rolle and Webster are really projected out as shutdown number one cornerbacks, then I'd take them.
-
All I read was the Moneyball aspect of it, and how thrilled Beane was that Kenny took Ring. For someone who remembers, was that the reason for not taking Blanton - just about the money? Or was it just a really, really stupid pick?
-
Great call, crede24. Fill in the blank - if the Bears have a top ten pick, I want them to take a ________. I'll say left tackle. I believe both defense and offense are won at the line of scrimmage. Look at 2001, we had an awesome and unbelievably healthy O-Line. If we can grab a LT, that would really anchor our offense line.
-
Yeah, can you seriously stop typing in tiny font, like Harris said? It's annoying as f***, and if you're trying to get a laugh out of anyone, I think you've failed...
-
IIRC the Jets picked him up, but I also would have liked to see the Bears before the Jets picked him up. Overall, I don't think this pick-up is as terrible as a lot of you guys seem to be making it. The kid has a nice arm, just gotta get better in the head and reading coverages - I know, I make it sound so easy, lol. But, he's a better pickup than say - Tim Couch. Well - now we can look towards the draft, a bit. I'm hoping this team goes after the best LT available in the draft. We don't need a stud WR in this offense because the ball is spread around so much. But if we're able to grab an awesome LT, we'll be able to run confidently to both sides (Tait on one side, with the LT on the other side), plus Kruetz in the middle. That, or draft a stud corner which will allow Lovie to blitz about as much as he wants to...

But trading Konerko or Lee wouldn't just fill one whole. IMO, it would at least fill two out of these following 'holes': -Give us a solid position player, probably a leadoff man. -Shore up the bullpen by getting a stud to get to Shingo. -Get us one real good minor league prospect. -Give us a number three starter.
-
Ugh, sprained knee? That's always the first report, then in turns into a tear of the ACL. Let's hope it's 'just' a sprain...

Ugh, now that my rant is over, I want to talk about the game today. Well, RW is what he is - a number three cornerback. I expected domination out of Culpepper/Moss; hell, when McQuarters and McMillon are your starting cornerbacks - that's bad news. I'm surprised that our defense was able to keep them under 30. Hell, I'm thrilled at how our defense played, considering the circumstances. Offensively - there were some bumps, but I'm really starting to fall in love with this offense. We don't have a go-to guy, but instead, six-ten players will touch the ball each game - people like Jones, Thomas, Johnson, Lyman, Clark, Wade, Terrell, Gage, Berrian. The reverse action on that I-Formation play is awesome, because every play, it take one guy out - because he is always responsible for containment of the reverse. It's awesome, I really love it. Overall today, I'm proud of our guys. They battled till the last play, and in the end, we were just a bit undermanned. Hell - if you would have told me that we'd play without Tillman, Urlacher, Brown - and Grossman at the end - and only lose by seven, I'd have been really surprised. I know - it's a loss in the end, but like I've been saying, playoffs aren't the ultimate goal, at least this year - developement is. Next year, IMHO (I know this might sound a little goofy) will be our playoff push year. Everyone will have had their year in the system, Lovie will have his guys, and we should be ready to bring back the Chicago dominance... P.S. Any news on Grossman? How bad is the injury?

I just got home - and what in the flying f*** are you talking about, MSF? You say we sucked today - yet we played without arguably our three best defensive players, in a dome in a very tough place to play, against a very good team - a team that might contend with the Eagles to be the best in the NFC. Holy s***, you say you don't like Quinn - he's a friggin' backup QB - what the f*** do you expect? If you expected the Bears to win this game - then I dunno, you're just a f***ing nut. To boot, your starting QB gets knocked out - and you expect the backup to step right in and drive 80+ yards for a TD. I'm sorry, but you're dead wrong on just about every point you've made in this thread...

Great pressure by Wale on that third down play. Awesome, like I said, he needs to have a huge game, and he gets his first sack in a Bears uniform. Great job, defense. Way to bow your collective necks... Have faith, people!
-
NO GOOD! 3-0 BEARS!
-
Great opening drive. Fizzled out at the end, but very good play calling by Mr. Shea. It's time for Wale to start earning his paycheck sack-wise. He's gotta be in the backfield all day - or Brown, Harris, Haynes, one of them - or we're gonna get killed. Gotta pressure the QB... It's a must.
-
Time to have the young guns step up - Hillenmyer, Vasher, Johnson and Johnson - I'm looking at you. LET'S GO BEARS! LET'S GO BEARS!

I really wish that this year hadn't turned into such a joke, but yet again - with this core of players, we are left hanging our heads looking forward to another offseason. But actually, I'm really excited about this offseason. For the first time since 2000, or even before that, we're going to see a complete overhaul of this team; a transition to the all-or-nothing team that we've had, to a team filled with more 'baseball players'. Also, for the first time, Kenny is going to have some spending money to work with, so - next years team really will be the Ozzie and Kenny Williams team, in their mold. I've stated that if the Sox don't make the playoffs next season, that should be the last year Kenny Williams is the general manager of this team. I realize that he 'tries', but frankly, trying isn't good enough anymore. No excuses next year. I also think that if we reload this offseason, and fail again next year - not only should Kenny be canned, but Ozzie should probably be canned as well - and we should just start from scratch. Maybe some of you don't want that, but in the long run, that's how a team should be built, IMO. But getting back to the point, there's just so many possibilities this offseason. A lot of interesting players on the trading block - going back to the Soriano rumors, to some of the players in Tampa Bay that might have a chance of being traded, as well as a lot of others. Plus, IMHO - one of Lee or Konerko will definitely be gone this offseason, and both are coming off of great years. We should get a damn good package of players/prospects for either of them. Anyone else share my sentiments?

So? And Juan Uribe made an error on Opening Day at the Cell. What's your point? Give Ross a chance to play at one set position - be it right field, left field, or first base - and let him work at that position alone for a bit, and I think he can turn into, at the very least, a servicable defender...
-
Hairston is easily better than both Harris and Uribe... This year he's hitting .303 with a .378 OBP. He hits just about equally well against righties as against lefties. And what do you mean Damon isn't worth his price? He plays very good defense, and he's a guy that just knows how to play baseball. Plus, he'd give us one of the better leadoff tandoms in the game, with Damon then Rowand. If the Sox found a way to trade for Damon, I'd be thrilled. Caveman on the southside would be awesome!
-
I'd love to get Hairston, and Damon if available (which I've heard, but maybe that isn't true). Hell, get both, and we have two damn good leadoff guys...
-
Some of you may be tiring of my hardon for Jerry Hairston, but I'm really impressed with his numbers this year. If there was any way at all he could be had, I'd love to grab him... Anyone from that Baltimore bullpen/rotation who the Sox would be interested in?
-
Am I the only one who wouldn't be comfortable with giving Beltran a 15-18 million dollar contract over five years? Don't get me wrong, he's a good ballplayer, but that money could fill, at the very least, three other holes on this team. We need top of the order hitters and lefty power hitters; IMHO, these are the following guys that we ought to be in pursuit of this offseason: -JD Drew -Cory Koskie -Jerry Hairston -Johnny Damon -Bill Mueller Get me a team of eight baseball players, and I'd be a lot happier with that than a team of a couple superstars and the rest mediocre. You gotta get guys that know how to play the game, so to speak...
-
I thought you might like to know, Ace, that I asked that girl that I was talking about out - while I was at the Sox game, lol. I sat up in the upper deck's last couple rows on Wednesday night, and spilled my guys to her. She's so awesome - she obviously doesn't care about looks, or else she wouldn't be going out with me. Plus, she's beautiful - and awesome. And, she actually wants to 'do things' with me, I'll leave that up to your mind...
-
Well, it's a risk that I'm certainly willing to take, considering: a.) How well he's pitched as of late. b.) We're no longer in any race whatsoever.
-
And that's where I think the whole 'stats' thing comes into play. Guillen and Hawk, the main proprieters of not so much stats, but winning, would say that Grilli has done well, because we've won ballgames that he's started. However - more often than not, the reason we've won those ballgames is more due to an offensive explosion on that night. Diaz, meanwhile, has a mid-3 ERA in his last 20+ innings or so, and it is clearly visable to many on this board - and it should be clearly visable to Guillen and Williams - that he is a lot more confident, and is pitching better because of it.
-
Just asking - what's the point of keeping Diaz in the bullpen if you feel (you collective, as in you, people of the board, you, the manager, you, the organization) that he'll give you a better chance at winning the game by starting over Grilli? Plus, doesn't this organization want Diaz to be a future starter? I don't mind Grilli starting. I mind Grilli starting over Diaz, though...
