Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
Valentin singles - two runs score, but he's thrown out trying for a double. End of seven and a half; 12-4 Sox.

Damn I love this Frank Thomas Sox Pride commercial. It's awesome. Brooks Boyer.... YES!

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
Yes. At least Sosa can hit 100 on the gun. I know speed isn't everything, but it's sure nice to have a fireballer.

Izzy comes down and shuts the Cubs down - way to go Cards. They needed to take one at least, and now they have a chance to sweep the two game series, and then they'll be done with the Cubs for the rest of the year. Sorry if it annoys some of you that I'm talking about the Cards - I usually keep other teams crap out of here, especially in a game thread, but the Cards are my second favorite team. Again - I know it should be in another forum, my apologies for that. Two nice outs for Neal. Keep rackin' 'em up, Neal!

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
??? Willie was drawing walks earlier in the year as well. He even said earlier in the year that he wants to start taking more pitches and walk more, to try and become more of a true leadoff hitter. I remember one quote from him saying, 'My perfect day at the plate would be 0-0 with 4 walks.' This is no surprise, Willie drawing walks.

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
I'll just say this - Carl Everett is a huge addition to our team. Even though his numbers were down in Montreal (I hesitate to say that because 127 ABs is a small sample size), how can you really 'get up' for any game in a Montreal uni? I mean, they suck, no one gives two s***s about what they do, no one comes to their games. I'm not trying to be an ass about it, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to be an Expo. Carl is going to be huge for us. I'll leave it at that, you guys know the reasons why.

No need to let up now Schoeney. Keep up with the good pitching!

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
Dickey was excellent before his DL stint. Err, maybe he wasn't, I dunno . I just remember that performance vs. the Yankees where he had a CG vs. them. Ehh - 5.90 ERA. Nevermind.

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
Nice start for Schoeney. Let's go O, get us some insurance here. Lee-Everett-Konerko due up. By the way, for those who can't see the game, Everett will be wearing number 8.

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
He had third base, it's just that he slipped as he came right around second base. After that, he should have just walked back to second. Rather he tried to make it to third - oh well, move on. Inning over. After 1, 2-0 Sox. Rowand, Crede, Alomar coming up in the lineup. And - did I mention how much I like having Sandy behind the plate? He might not have the cannon or the bat, but he is such a good presence behind the plate, and he can still handle those pitches in the dirt with the best of 'em.

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
That's exactly what we need from Carl. Take pitches, take his walk. I doubt he'll be able to walk as much as Big Hurt, but if he could replace part of that, it'd be great. BTW - I have a question about OBP. How is it determined? Hits + Walks / ABs? But, in OBP, isn't a walk considered an AB? So, do you then have to add the walks to the ABs?

Help Me Cheer On The Sox (Part I)
Good point. Now we have R/R/R/R, at the 6, 7, 8, 9 spots in the order. Plus Rowand has been on a tear lately, and he's a very good fastball hitter, so put him in the two hole. Oh well, good to see Harris at 2B. And welcome back, Hot Carl! (Sorry Steff for stealing your adjective.)

Overpaying yet again
Since when is Jon Rauch and Gary Majewski 'overpaying'? And - had we not traded for Garcia, our front three would be Buehrle-Garland-Loaiza, but I guess an armchair GM such as yourself would have found a way to get Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens for nothing more than a bag of balls and a pack of gum. Anyways - why the hell are you still here? You know the Sox won't make the playoffs, you predicted it a month or so ago. You know what's going to happen with this team, they suck, so why even be here?
-
We NEED a true Leadoff hitter!
Oh yeah, I forgot - we're basing this on two months of Aaron Miles play. Such a large sample size.

Overpaying yet again
I find it funny how after we trade certain people, they become perenial future All-Stars, and the guys we get back are horse crap. Really, really amazes me sometimes...

Mauer goin on DL
Same here. I never cheer/root for anyone to get injured, but I'm glad that we won't have to see Mauer in that series in a week or so. After Mauer, they don't have much catching depth, so I'll look forward to our players having a field day running on Lecroy.

What worries you most about this team?
In my opinion, we are two players away from being really good - a catalyst for our offense and another solid bullpen arm. Whether that catalyst (sp?) be Willie Harris playing everyday and playing confidently, Juan Uribe returning to his April/May form, or a trade for a Jason Kendall type player, we need someone at the front of our order who can get on base consistently. And of course, another BP arm. Takatsu, Marte, Politte are the only three guys I trust at the moment, and Politte is sort of a hot/cold guy. One more solid BP arm would really strengthen our bullpen.

What idiot wrote this article?
No, it's not US Cellular Park. It's US Cellular Part...

Where do you bat Everett?
That's a pretty good lineup right there; except I'd probably have Everett and Jose switched right off the bat. No need to put any added pressure on Jose, he's performing very well right now where he's at. So: Harris Rowand Ordonez Lee Everett Konerko Valentin Crede Catcher And if we do get Jason Kendall in the next week and a half, the whole complexion of our lineup changes, but that's for a different thread on a different day.

NCAA Football 2005
Hey - one more question SnB. Sorry if this sounds stupid, but when you have something on your sliders like QB Accuracy 16/13 (I know those aren't your ratings), what do you mean? Like, when I go to the AI Settings, it has a - and a +, and then I can raise the bar, or lower it. Does that mean, say if you have 16 CPU QB Accuracy, I go 16 clicks starting from the - going to the +? EDIT: Ah, screw it, I answered my own question.

We NEED a true Leadoff hitter!
Do we really have to go through this again? Besides the fact Uribe is younger, plays three positions, and is much much much much MUCH better defensively.... Miles is the perfect Coors Field hitter. He doesn't walk much, but Coors will help him out offensively. Away from Coors, his OBP is a Corey Patterson-esque .309, with a whopping 0 homers. Let's see how long this little streak of his lasts, and then you can go back into your little hole of negativity and of all knowledge.

We NEED a true Leadoff hitter!
I'd give Harris a shot to get it done. Not just for one or two days. Give him a good one or two weeks, see if he can get it done. He was doing fine until he started splitting PT with Uribe. Go back to the start of the season plan - make Uribe ultra-utility guy, Harris at second, Valentin at short, Rowand in center. I've always liked Kendall, but like RR says, that contract is.... bleh, bad. He is the type of player we need in our lineup, though. This year, his numbers are down a bit, but still very, very solid. .309 AVG, .389 OBP, 33/22 BB/K ratio, 2 HR, 33 RBI. We could stick him in the two hole, and watch him get on base before Maggs, Lee, Valentin, etc. BTW - If we did get Kendall, I'd probably go out and get a Jason Kendall Sox jersey. So that's even more incentive to go out and get him, Kenny!
