  1. On a different note...... I hope this guy turns out to be a good reliever. So far he has struugled in ST. When it comes to getting batters out, I don't want to see his name turned into Shingo "No-Got-You!"
  2. I guess you're right Rex! I guess that it's just so much more noticeable from the Scrubbie announcers because, let's face it, that's all we ever hear "EVERYWHERE" is Cubs this or Cubs that. You get so sick of it, that one of the ways we Sox fans get to tune it out is by watching a Sox game. Unfortunately though, when Stone/Caray announce the cross town game, It's the "Here we go having to listen to all the Cubs slop again". Maybe that's why I didn't notice it as much from Hawk & D.J. I just get so blasted sick and tired of seeing, hearing and being plastered with continuous "CUBS ARE THE SUPREME EXISTENCE OF CHICAGOLAND BASEBALL" Garbage constantly being shoved down our throats by TV, Papers, Stores, etc.
  3. I agree about the score issue, because when I get off work, I turn on the game and wait and wait and wait for the score. Overall I'm rather pleased with their announcing. They're pretty good at giving you stats and other trivial quotes about the players makeup, whether on the Sox or the opposition. Farmers weakness...... whatever happens, he's got a nice long long story that takes at least 5 to 8 pitches to finish about how he was involved in a certain situation that was related to a play that just happened. Some innings there's more broadcasting about his personal baseball history than there is about the game.
  4. It's not only during ST broadcasts. One of the Sox/Cubs games last year that was on WGN was the same way. White Sox up to bat, and nearly a whole inning went by with Stone/Caray rambling about the Scrubbies.
  5. Regardless how many he gets, it has to get much better than last year. My official name for him last year was "The Human Warning Track" because every time he pitched, that is where the ball wound up.....or even farther!!
  6. Looks like Paulie has got some competition as to who can complete the running of the bases from the start of the national anthem until the 7th inning stretch. Think either him or "Garthy" have a chance at that accomplishment???
  7. Going out to dinner should be interesting between those two. What would they get?? A chop suey covered burrito???
  8. I'd like to see everyone perform well too, but "sheesh" What will management do if all perform well? Use some for trade bait? Heck, we'd have Maggs, C Lee, A Row, Borch, and Reed. Nice to have too many rather than not have enough. Hate to see any of them go!
  9. I must admit, I'm not real crazy about the boost in prices either. I have a huge mortgage, and am just a factory laborer, but regardless of prices, I figure it this way, I get to go see and root for a team that I have enjoyed and built memories around for 40+ years. The excitement and anticipation never fades when it's game day that I'm going to. Not only that, but to enjoy all the surrounding fans and having a great time with them as well. It's like a 4 hour vacation 9 times per year! Do I have a lot of money??? Heck no! But when some is available, to me, my White Sox are worth spending it on. Read my sig. It just builds and gets better and grows as time goes on!!
  10. Must admit!!! I'm totally agreement with everyone!!! I just keep thinking, man, what it must be like for an opposing batter to face Marte with that AWESOME "Here it comes---see if you can hit it" sweeping breaking ball of his!! He is definately fun to watch. Will April hurry-the-heck-up already???
  11. Gee! Thanks for the enlightenment Rex!!! You remind me of my brother when he got a job transfer from South Bend Indiana The snowbelt of America to L.A. The first January out there he called and said, "You know what Tom, the other day it got so cold that I had to put on a shirt" At least I had a good reply. I said "At least tomorrow I know what side of the block my house will be on!!!!" Enjoy your tropical weather Rex!!! Your location of weather makes me jealous. I'll forgive your 70 degre wisecrack for 2 reasons, 1) Your a Sox fan 2) Your not a Cub fan We gotta stick together no matter where us Sox fans live.
  12. After talking with other American pitchers, Are the umps more lenient on the strike zone in Japan compared to USA. With more ball parks adding that automated strike/ball gadget, our zone may be a little tighter so as not to make umps look bad over here. If that's the case, what good would his movement on pitches be if he can't get them called for strikes?
  13. I tried the internet 2 years ago and for the first 2 hours I couldn't get through. By the time I did, Cubs were gone. I never tried it, but if 2K4 says that the box office sells them earlier than 10:am "Sticket-Masters" then I'd give it a shot. Might want to call Sox park 1 312 674 1000 to see what is the earliest they will let you get in line. If I recall, there was a certain time waiting period that they would not let you wait around before hand. Maybe someone else would know the answer to that. I just tried calling to find out, but missed it. In the offseason, the boxoffice closes at 4:00p.m. Hope you have success.
  14. Actually, I'm rather glad to see more and more of The Big Cub Hype. Bring it On!!!!!!! As much as it sickens the daylights out of me, it will make the downfall that much sweeter when it happens. The newspaper will be something that I will enjoy reading "Just That Much More!!" Will a downfall happen? Will all the hype lead to a crash?? not likely! But as someone once said on an earlier thread, "The season hasn't started yet, and ANYTHING can happen!" There is an old saying that if I recall, it starts out with"Don't count your chickens!!!" When the hype and extreme north-side arrogance comes to a crash, this will be me when I get my morning paper
  15. Man, the guy looks like he good D.H. in the next mortuary olympics!!
  16. Thanks Chisoxfn! Not sure how it works, but I'll keep the eyeballs peeled and will watch for it! By the way, Don't get nervous, but I may be getting close and catching up to you on the number posts real soon. I'm in the mid "80's" in my post total, and you're at 14,000 plus. I figure in about 2 more days I'll pass you up!!! Whad'ya Think???? ) ( ) ( ) ( ) ( ) ( )NOT!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. I have no problems on single quotes at all, but once in a while I see someone reply with 3 separate quotes (in their respective blue quote boxes) that they made from 3 different postings all in one reply box. I saw 2 quotes that I wanted to reply on, but couldn't get them both into one posting. Any ideas?? Thanks!!
  18. Pasttime!!! Your killing me man!!! Gotta share the charge-the-mound bit with some guys at work tomorrow!!!
  19. Not really necessary! Why?? Because if you are a Cubs fan, you must feel like that you are already there!!!! Brains are already incinerated!!!!!!!!!!!
  20. I have a suggestion!! At 7:30 tonight, How about saving the ball and blowing up the team instead??? Then we can finally read about a real Chicago baseball team in the paper for once!!!!
  21. I agree with you on that point, but I also believe that he stepped it up a notch because of his counterpart R.Alomar. Call it what you may, but whether it's a sport or playing an instrument or whatever, you tend to be and play better when there is a more talented inspiration that is with you on a day, to day basis. Valentin is decent at best, as you said, but not rock solid.
  22. OOps!!! Meant Jose "Valentin!!!" My sarcastic comment was made because he will be Harris's counterpart and will be playing much together. Valentin's defense has never known to be real solid, that;s why my question............................ Is he the one that Harris will learn from???? How can he learn from him, when he (valentin) hasn't learned himself yet???
  23. Regardless of what happens, I'm willing to give Willie a chance. Not only because of his speed, but let's face it................. The kid's "Hungry!" My only question is, who will he learn defense better from?? VALENTINE?????? AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!! I read in today's Suntimes that Guillen wants Willie to learn to bunt well. That would be a major plus. Get on base, keep the pitchers mind a little off-balance,with speed on the bases, and less concentration on the plate, and let the big guns bring him around. As of now I don't have a lot of confidence in him, But I hope he does really well. He could be a reall asset!
  24. Hey TLAK, Been real busy, so my board time is scarce lately. Just wanted to say, got a big kick out of your avatar. Work has been brutal! Needed a good laugh. That one did me in for the night!!! Thanks!!! On the serious side, I hope Guillen does real well. Only time will tell. As far as Shingo goes, does anybody know how long he was locked up for before he became a free agent? With scouts all over the friggin' place nowadays, you think somebody would have jumped on the bandwagon a few years ago since his stuff is supposedly so great. Just curious if anyone knew if/why he was unavailable, and for how long of a period. If he was available before, why didn't anyone grab him? Thanks!!
