  1. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Nov 16, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) Peavy preferring Flowers behind the plate is all the endorsement I need. Well one main reason for Peavy liking Flowers is not just for his game callling, but mainly so Peavy can controll the show. AJ obviously has a game calling plan with every batter. The guy does his homework and takes pride in helping a young staff.(just like Fisk used to with Hoyt, Burns, Bannister, etc) The problem.......... both him and Peavy like to call the shots. In essence Flowers being a "kid" and Peavy a successful veteran..............he can shake him off if and when he pleases and throw what he wants. Flowers can be to Peavy what DJ was to Hawk in the booth. Peavy and Hawk are 2 people who want their way and a puppet to follow and thats that. Does the pitcher have the right to call off a catcher?? Absolutely. A pitcher may just not have the FEEL for certain pitches on that day. But in essence the catcher (especially a veteran who knows a lot of the hitters and is a proven veteran) should be the "Main" Game Caller. And thats where AJ and Peavy Butt heads. BOTH want CONTROL ........................and unless they are BOTH on the same page as to their approach.................yes Conflict will always be there. Sooo if we dont sign AJ......... then welcome aboard "D.J." (OOOPS.........I mean Flowers!!!)
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 11, 2012 -> 08:14 AM) http://www.csnchicago.com/baseball-chicago...tm_medium=email I'll tell ya. One thing that really concerns me about the attendance going uder 2 mil, and falling for the 4th straight year.............along with what kind of budget we may have for 2013......................is in fact, will we really be ablw to contend with Detroit next year? Granted there is a lot of hope in the young mix that we have. but there are some things to take in consideration. 1) Hard for us to spend money on existing players........... or bring in other REAL VETERAN studs due to our lack of attendance and finances 2) Depending how deep Detroit goes..............they may even have more money to spend on another quality starter to their mix. Add a stud to Verlander and Porcello..................and they could have a pretty darn good knock out 1-2-3 punch on a regular basis. 3) Along with what they may have revenue to bring in for 2013, they also have VMart coming back. Add him along with Cabrera and Fielder and you have Another 1-2-3 punch from ANOTHER aspect that is covered on this team. 4) Cabrera and Fielder are on the upsides of their career and continue to get better and better where as we have no idea what PK, A.J. and Dunn will bring next year. Granted PK had a good start. Dunn had a nice bouncback year but still struck out WAYYYYY too much. AJ had a great year................but I dont think that his reliability for a great season next year is on the same upswing level as Detroits 1-2-3 punch. My point?? Sure we have some good veterans.....but their upswing in their careers is not NEARLY as bright as what Detroit brings to the table. we have toooo many "if's" in pitching and in the middle of the line up...... whereas they have many "Solids" that are already in place........and have Vmart being added to the equation without even having to address anything else until the offseason comes. Going deep (or even winning it all) will just add to Detroits pursuit of showing "No Mercy" next year by what they may acquire in the offseason. 5) We have it in our heads that we cannot beat these guys on a regular basis....which is also a "HEAD THING" type hurdle that we have to overcome going into next season. 6) Granted we have some GREAT young talent that is hungry and we hope will develope into the studs that we hope thatbthey will be. I dont meant for this to be a Negative post. I just want to bring out some real scary REALITY and real hurdles that need to be overcome. Our attendace Our revenue Detroits attendance Detroits revenue the upswing in their veterans....compared to the "iffyness" of the upswing in our veterans What they will have to spend (depending how deep they go this year) compared to what we will have to spend compared to how deep we went. But then again..................look what Oakland did this year with that young team. hopefully our kids will have that same drive and mentality along with talent that will take us over the top. Only time will tell. win or lose I AM REALLY looking forward to seeing all of our young guys get better with their talent and with their HUNGER. Come ON 2013. Cant wait!!
  3. when i read a lot of the posts in this thread the one thing that i noticed was 4 lefties in the rotation quite a bit. Not sure what the front office will do, But my guess would be that if they can resign Peavy..............then he is in and Floyd will be moved. If not.,........unfortunately..............then Floyd has a chance of staying.(GRRRRRRRRRR) Still not sure who the odd man out is but having Sale Danks Santiago and Quintana? Dont think front office will keep 4 lefties in the rotation. Someone will have to be moved for a righty. (unless santiago will be kept around to replace Thorton as the new lefty "GO TO GUY".................and be kept around for LONG relief when needed) Still wondering if Santiago was being groomed at the end as a starter for an upcoming move also. Hard to tell. Also.............I agree that Thorton has got to go. Not just for money relief....................but not sure how some of you feel, but I have had it watching that straight as an arrow fastball get pounded. He cant get a curve over for squat...............really has no other pitch with any real consistency......................and UNLESS he locates his fastball the guy is pretty much useless. He kind of reminds me of 2005 Neal Cotts and Cliff Politte. Both had fastballs straight as an arrow...... but that year their control and location were SUPERB. But neither of them (like thorton) didnt have much else to offer. When location was bad they got pounded. Same scenario with Thorton. He's gotta go...........along with Omogrosso. Myers hasnt really been overimpressive either.
  4. QUOTE (Al Lopez's Ghost @ Sep 17, 2012 -> 08:38 AM) With one more hit, Omar Vizquel will tie.... Babe Ruth. yeah and with his longevity and health...... Vizquels playing years may eventually double that of Ruths as well. lol He may still be playing long after the age that Ruth died.
  5. getting closer guys... Been 8 years but I'll get my 1000th post yet. lol
  6. QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ Sep 16, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) Always BEAUTIFUL when we can sweep the Twins. CMON TRIBE! EDIT : Tribe up 2 on a generous call from 1st base ump. Cant wait to see how todays game goes Tigers have to be really smokin hot after some of the calls that went against them yesterday...... and then blowing the game on top of it. They are going to come to the cell with a chip on their shoulder. We'll see who wants it more today and who will be the most focused. Regardless Mr. Superstitous Valverde is one that I have never thought very highly of as SHUT down closer............and regardless of the score he shows to be VERY beatable. Kind of reminds me of when we had Thigpen. Thiggy would get a ton of saves...........but always flirted with getting a loss at any given moment by putting guys on base a lot.
  7. QUOTE (onedog#1 @ Sep 14, 2012 -> 06:31 AM) not much, just tired of seeing soft singles from our captain, hoping he can do a little more for the remaining 18 or 19 games. and the fact that to opposing pitchers PK no longer seems to be a dangerous threat anymore. How many clutch situations were there where we really needed some runs........... has he come through without hitting some weak sqibber to the shortstop, or a lazy fly ball? the first half.............he was dangerous to the opposition because they knew that he was going to hit it HARD someplace. Now......solid hard contact out of him in key situations is horrible. If we are going to have a chance at this thing we need the PK back that we know him to be
  8. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 9, 2012 -> 04:41 PM) Today. No, really. Today. 8 guys in scoring position in 3 innings with 1 out and lose by one. (twice bases loaded and once 2nd an 3rd) yep this one sure ranks up there
  9. Seattle pitcher.....Charlie Furbush?? man if that guy is married or has a sister, can you imagine how much they got teased???? wow
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 07:54 AM) It is now official. The Dodgers are the new stupidest team on the planet. Adrian Gonzalez is not worth $60 million a year. 60 million a year?? huh?
  11. I heard on MLB Network about a trade that is brewing up that Boston would send Beckett Crawford and Agone to the Dodgers for Loney and a few others. One......the trade is so lopsided that I cannot comprehend why Boston would even consider it, but 2,,,,,here my question.............................I don't understand the trade rules. If the trade deadline was July 31st, then how can a trade of this magnitude be talked about or even taking place with a team that is in contention?
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 07:16 AM) They're done with Texas. Last 45 games: 9 KC 6 Min 6 Cle 3 Sea That's 24 of 45 games against teams under .500. That should be 16-8 right there. I'll be nice, and say 15-9. 3 at home vs Yankees. At home, go 2-1. (17-10) 4 at Baltimore. Go 2-2 (19-12) 4 at home vs Rays. Go 2-2. (21-14) 3 at Anaheim. Win 1. (22-16) 7 head-to-head vs Tigers. Go 3-4, minimum. (25-20) If the Sox don't get to 90 with their schedule, they blew it. sorry my mistake . i saw the seattle icon from afar and thought it said texas my bad.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 19, 2012 -> 05:58 AM) Through 119 games (since): Sox 65-54 TB 65-54 (1-0) Bal 64-55 (1-0) Det 64-55 (0-1) Oak 64-55 LAA 62-57 (0-2) Angels are really fading. If it takes 89 wins for the second wild card, they have to go 27-14. And coming into this series with KC, the Sox had 45 games left. If the Sox can't go 25-20 the final 45 for 90 wins against a soft schedule, then they just aren't good enough. And now it's 25-18. A soft scedule??? Sure in september, but the next 13 games starting Monday are 3 Yankess at home 3 Texas at home 4 At Baltimore and 3 at Detroit. How is that soft??? I consider soft Minny, Cubs, Astros etc. How do those 4 teams fit into the category of SOFT??????
  14. QUOTE (BFirebird @ Aug 3, 2012 -> 10:49 PM) Wow what a game. Way to battle when with your starter sucking it up. Bullpen gets a gold star for the effort as well. Rios!! Just got back from it. One of the best games that i have been to in quite a while. Cant wait to see the replay game. From our seats, it looked like Rioses HR could have been caught if it was timed better. Also.....cant wait to see a replay of Dunn plowing into Inaetta.
  15. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:47 PM) really hope that coop can help liriano. his stuff is too good, maybe he saw something he can fix I'm sure that KW wouldnt have made this trade without talking to Coop about him. If they were in agreement over this............then "IN TIME" I think we can expect some real positives. plus it is insurance and another leftie in the rotation if Danks DOES need surgery. Always a NICE problem to have too many starters
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 28, 2012 -> 10:12 PM) Escobar has been absolutely worthless against RHP this year. If he's a regular starter for your team, you better hope you have a lot of good offensive players besides him. yeah but at least we had someone who can play good defense when alexei is down. that was a plus side for him until he can get acclamated to playing full time
  17. Oh yeah,,, just remembered something...............sorry....dont mean to turn the tables off of the Hawk comments, but here is one that crossed my mind regarding Harry carray when he announced for the Sox. The pitcher was Pablo Torrealba...........and he was not doing well at all. A real bad outing. Harry Carray said on television REAL CLEAR and disgustingly yelled out. "Pablo Torrealba!! Man...Where'd they get this guy????!" WOW....what a humiliation for Pablo............... and for his family if they were all watching on TV. Probably the harshed comment I have heard a home town announcer give towards a young guy that is trying to make it in the big leagues for the home town club. That was brutal.
  18. some of the favorite ones is when there is dead silence for a period. It comes in a time when the Sox made some poor plays and are getting buried because of it. When the dead silence comes....you know he is so disgusted that he knows that if he really said on his mind what he wanted to................he would pay for it or "get an ear full of it" somehow.
  19. QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 12:17 PM) LOL. "YOU GOTTA BE BLEEPIN ME!" "WHAT ARE YOU DOING WEGNER!?" Can't recall any of the quotes, but I know that he hates the daylights out of Wegner when he is umpiring at home plate. He has said some Real classics about this guy for YEARS. GRRRRRRRRRRR just wish that I could remember some of them now.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 6, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) Having AJ around for another couple years would be ideal. He's still got some good play left in him, the pitching staff are used to him, and it gives some of the catchers in the minors (Phegley and Smith particularly) another year or two to develop (and for Flowers to develop in the majors). Ideal would be a 1 year plus 1 year option type deal. Also agreed, and as for the pitching staff, he is to our staff what Fisk was to the staff when we had Hoyt, Burns, Dotson and Bannister. Fisk was SOOOOOOO monumental to their success, just as AJ is to the staff now. You add coop in the mix with AJ and you have about as best a combo for developing pitchers (to the NEXT level after minor league developement) than anyone else has in the majors. Even if AJ never out-hits Flowers the next 2 years, you cannot take away what he adds to pitching...................especially all these young guys that we seem to be developing and bringing up.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 02:31 AM) Like Jenks? I smile fondly of memories of him from 05-07, his first three years with the Sox. '08 was ok. '09 and '10 were terrible. Sox gave him a shot and he capitalized. I thought he'd be the White Sox closer for years, but then he just fell apart. i still have it ingrained in my head the first time i saw that deadly "off the table" curve ball that went along with his 100 mph fast ball, and thought to my self................."this guy is friggin' unhittable" ........and "he's ours!!!!!!!!" Great memories.
  22. I know that I am not one of the regular posters, but Happy belated birthday. If you had a great day yesterday ........Cool.........then you can start off today by having another one. (note........I'll reach that 1000th post yet. Maybe by May of 2022)
  23. QUOTE (Rooftop Shots @ Jun 1, 2012 -> 11:33 PM) Just wanted to say thanks. the only reason that i posted was that i was searching my brains out for the right "front face" of the Entire building of old comiskey. the ones that were poosted will help a great deal when it comes time to painting the details. But THIS LINK Old Comiskey Main Entrance is what i was looking for. (FINALLY) It shows it Front face at the main entrance from end to end without anything being chopped off. STILL looking for US cellular in this type of fashion. Still no success. Thanks for the replies. All pics that were posted are always helpful when I am looking for details. When I finish the painting, I'll look back for this topic and post some pics of it. maybe 2-3 weeks. Not sure. after you click on the link. if you click on the picture itself....it opens up to a huge size which is really a bonus

  25. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ May 30, 2012 -> 05:55 PM) Good news. And I swear the pitcher on the Rays was trying to drill him. 100%. Glad we swept em. Onward. I know. i have never seen anyone miss the second basemen on a pickoff play by THAT MUCH in THAT direction. such a COINCIDENCE that it happened when other things were flaring up in the past 2 games that led to this. They practice this play a lot. NO way you miss throwing at the ground 10 feet to your left
