  1. Ok I don;t know enough about pitching mechanics, and the effects that his injury had on his mechanics as well as his abilities and talent. But here's some thoughts to chew on. is It possible that he can have a real good year this year?. A professional should always be able to play to his maximum potential no matter who he plays for or with. But lets face it, (NO MATTER WHAT SPORT) when you play with some serious competitive and winning guys, it does something inside you that really "UPS" your game. He has had plenty of time to heal, and a season to learn how to "pitch" differently than he used to before his injury. Now that he has 3 key pitchers ahead of him, and a team that will really compete, could that possibly make him "that much better" and worth "some" of his money? He did have some good spurts last year (I believe it was around the July area) . Its a poor analogy..... but an example is Most good starting rotations seem to get better as they feed off of one another's success. If our top 3 have real good years, could Danks FEED off of that and make him the pitcher that we hope for? If he does, then we have Duke and Rodon in the pen in the middle of the season, for lefties. Rodon gets to grow and evolve in the process, and if Danks "does" have a good year, then makes it a lot better chance to trade him next year (and the whole 15 mil) for something worthwhile when Rodon becomes a starter for 2016.At the same time. His 15 mil off the books would free up at least "SOME" money for Samardzija (at last for the first year anyway)
  2. QUOTE (lvjeremylv @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 12:44 AM) Sure it could work. All that has to happen, is Reinsdorf saying "make it happen", and Hahn could call up Scherzer's agent and make it happen. Will it happen? Nah. But it's not because JR doesn't have the money. plus no way you wanna tie up that huge chunk on money for taht many years where it has almost proven that long term big contract deals seldom pan out. The only way that Sox could afford him is short term, but it would take some serious magic. Unload Danks and Viciedo and that frees 20 million. May get Max for 25 million, so in essence you'd be getting him short term for 5 mil a year for the remaing length of Danks contract. Scherzer definately is not coming here. Just hoping that anyone gets him besides Detroit
  3. Well one thing for sure. The way that Hahn talked about JR stretching th payroll for Melky, I think we can finally put all the Scherzer discussions to rest. Just hope like heck that SOMEONE in the national league picks him up, and NOT resign with Detroit. What I cant figure out is, if payroll was already being stretched, then why was there a report of us talking with Scherzer, if there is no point or reality in signing him?
  4. QUOTE (hi8is @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 10:29 PM) SCHERZER! SCHERZER! SCHERZER! SCHERZER! SCHERZER! SCHERZER! SCHERZER! SCHERZER! SCHERZER! Just do it... Damn it! Well you never know JR said that he is 78 years old and this is the 10 year anniversary of the WS and said that he wants another Championship so who knows? It was noted that we did contact him last week. I know it sounds nuts, but I'm not counting Scherzer out. When Hawk was asked what else might be in mind, he said "Ill keep that one to myself" Does that mean that he has a wish that he would like to see???? ORR does he know something that we don't? He also said that his intentions to call less amount of games this year is no longer in his thought process. Apparently he does NOT want to miss anything this year.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 05:35 PM) He'll be too busy moping about himself. Granted Gillaspie is ok at 3rd and Ok with the bat.............but geez if I was on a good team, would i really want a team mate with a personality of that that has the equivalency of a bowl of oatmeal?. Heck no. Show some friggin enthusiasm for others on your team. Leave the friggin "puss-face" at home and be a team member will ya? Lets face it, do either you or I like to be around someone with an attitude that sucks and never seems happy about anything? Then how much more does that go into effect when you have teammates that you play, gel with, and travel with for 6 months at a time and are around each other all of the time? If anything I would like to see him go if only for the sake of his Rosey O Donnell attitude to go bye bye.
  6. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:00 PM) Man the last few pages of this thread have been terrible. Go cry somewhere else. The White Sox upgraded in a big way. I'm going to choose to be excited about that. Agreed. Granted I ragged about when we kept hearing about being aggressive and nothing happening. We heard that for so many years. But NOW they are putting their money where their mouth is and making a splash and trying to put together a solid competitive team for Sox fans to gete excited about. I don't get all of the nay saying. Geeez pretty soon ya know it..........some fans...you can give them a 5 million fdollar winning laottery ticket, and then they would say in return. "Yeah biut LAST MONTH it was 7 million...and NOW I have to pat taxes!" Hahn, KW JR regardless whatever happens in 2015 (Whether its a success or it all backfires) THANK YOU for GOING FOR IT and getting us a real reason to want to watch and go to games and talk excitedly about our home team again. I know that on this board and also with my friends off of the board, that there has been MORE talking discussing and enthusiasm about what has been talking place in the last 2 weeks than I remember in a LONG TIME. SO FUN to talk, dream, hope, with VERY high anticipation about what has been taking place and also what we HOPE will take place in the 2015 season. KW...you said you bring us excitement again. YOU DID. Hahn you said you would get aggressive YOU DID ONE LAST piece. JR said he wants another championship. Hopefully his part gets filled as well. Dont know...but at least they are making a serious effort. That's all that we can ask on our part.
  7. Can you imagine puttiung Scherzer on top of all of this? I Know its a bad move to tie up all that money, but obviously the front office IS getting agressive like they said they would at the beginning of the off season. Can't even imagine what a friggin dogfight the central would be if he came on board.
  8. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Dec 11, 2014 -> 11:09 AM) I can't believe Rienzo was worth even a warm body. all I can say to that is LOL
  9. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 10, 2014 -> 01:24 AM) I already thought there was a somewhat decent chance he would resign with us, but after you hear the last 40 seconds or so in that interview, I am now CONFIDENT he will resign. For those who don't want to listen, check out this very telling quote...... "I'm just really excited for the future, to have a sound future, and to understand I'm set in a place. There is no more talk about where I'm going to end up or where I'm going to be." My question on the last line. Not real sold on him referring to being here long term (as of yet anyway) . Here's why. A couple of other ways to put a spin on what he said as far as "There is no more talk about where I'm going to end up or where I'm going to be.". Could that also mean that he is not referring to long term, but may be referring to the constant where-abouts that he may be playing THIS YEAR with all of the trade speculations and Sooooo many teams wanting him?. That's why i am not so sure that he was referring to long term as to the issues of the here and now is Finally over with. ORRR could it also be that now that the trade thing is done, that until free agency hits next year, that he doesn't want to talk aboiut it until then..............and thats why there will be no more talk about it. Thoughts?
  10. Well, I may be way off base, but if we do get another front line right hander for a starter, what good would it do, if we are just going to go through what we did last year. We are not going to have a Baltimore Orioles rotation from 1971 that will have a total of 71 complete games. I do believe that Petricka and Putnam experienced growing pains, but still will not have the (&*&%^&'s) to be able to be "lights out" "Game over" closers on a consistent reliable basis. So, if if overpaying someone like DR is not done...the what confidence will fans have if we go into games with a lead late in the game and still have second raters at the end?. Then the question begins.......Do we really want to win with "just hoping" with some "grit your teeth and bear it" "get by-ers" or do you want to help solidify the rotation by giving it a lights out back end? If not Robertson, then who else for 3-4 years to go along with the starters that are locked up for years to come? Could it be Montas?? If so, if winning NOW is our objective...how long do we wait on him? Don't know much about him, so maybe someone can shed some light?
  11. This stuff drives me nuts. Everyone knows darn well that Jerry isn't going to fish out that type of money for 5-6-7-8 years. Somebody mentioned in another thread about KW talking about getting us EXCITED again, and Hahn always talking about being AGGRESSIVE. Well, elite players are fading quick. Don't need or want any "washed up" "out of prime" or "Hope for a bounce back year" additions. Its NOT going to be Scherzer. Geez sometimes ya wonder if reporters just need to get their name on TV just so their superiors will make them look like they are doing something to earn their paychecks. Saying that we contact Scherzer?? Sure here's the conversation....(Ring Ring Ring! Hey Max. I have a free coupon for a breakfast burrito. Wanna Go?? NO? Oh OK!!! CLICK!) THERE ..........a contact was made and someone reported on it. Why reporters bring this stuff up when they KNOW that it has SQUAT of a chance to take place is sooooo beyond me. Until then...we'll here more reports of getting excited, when in fact management will not allow payroll to exceed anything other than to accept 2nd rate has been's in HOPE that things will pan out.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) With a quick sort, it looks like Johnny Damon holds the record at 2122 replies. Sounds crazy, but hoping to make it to 1000 before he signs with someone. Be nice to join the "Elite Squad" of 4 digit post archives of replies whereas it was all for nothing . LOL
  13. No need for any responses, but when I saw The Reds in this topic, my immediate reaction was " I want Chapman". (Hey Roofy...There's more chance of Prince Fielder slimming down to Chris Sale's physique than us getting him), ..........but man.............we have not had a "LIGHTS OUT" "Game OVER" closer since Jenks and Shingo when they were in their prime.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 11:43 AM) Topic title corrected. I repeat, topic title corrected. YES I KNOW its ROSENTHAL. That's what i get for hitting POST TOPIC "BEFORE" reading everything through. Don't I get at least ONE "D-UH???"""
  15. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 21, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) One thing interesting is that he had 84 walks against only 108 Ks last year. That...is pretty damn good. Maybe they think his late career surge is real. sorry missed your post before I entered mine. Didn't mean to be Pete and Re Pete
  16. just checked. Struck out 108 times last year. Still quite a bit but its a heck of a lot better than out other Left handed Adam bat. Walked 82 times as well
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 13, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) I don't know, its a Levine story. but if it comes to past and it is true. I won't be disappointed. the sox brass have way more resources than us. As I mentioned in the V-Mart signing thread. I know that it makes for fun conversation and speculations (and I am guilty of it as well) ...But geeeez thats all we here from EVERYWHERE about how we are showing INTEREST in someone. Can we actually count HOW MANY times we have heard that on big name guys but never sign them? Sure Abreu is an exception. But all the hype of Smardjiza, Panda, V-Mart, Kemp,Miller, Scherzer etc tc etc Forget it. We have a HISTORY of when Key people in their prime are on the market that somebody ELSE always ponies up and we alk away with squat. I don't mean to be a nay-sayer......but geez this goes back to the KW days of hearing about getting aggressive with Cabrera and Hunter and coming up empty. Then when the PRIME Candidates are all signed with someone else, then we try and get the leftovers and HOPE like heck that they have a good year to GET BY WITH. SELDOM do we ever do nothing more than HEAR of showing INTEREST by ("the human caskets with arms and legs such as Levine and Phil Rogers) but in reality seldom make signings (plural) where we can be looked at as ("WOW do the Sox look impressively lethal"). Sorry about my attitude right now. But geeeez ...ONCE again we hear from sox front office in the media about how they are going to be aggressive in the off season....and watch more key people go by the way side. Plus, still a littled pissed about V mart. I dont care about his age. Julio Franco wasnt NEAR the hitter Vamrt was and played well into his 40's. V Mart seldom strikes out and is a CONSISTENT contact hitter and a good clubhouse guy, and would be a LETHAL 1-2 punch with Abreu and put a huge dent in Detroit as well. So... Mr Hahn........ don't be like your predecessor KW and TALK about being agressive and competitive. Shut the mouth, open the wallet and use the pen....and BACK up with "action" the hope that you give the fans through your media hypes. ( I may be ay out of line with some of my comments......but at the same time...look at out history and some comments have some real validity to them. HYPE/INTEREST/PURSUING year in and year out while we watch others turn lethal and we struggle to break 500 every year .
  18. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Nov 12, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) Vmart really liked the idea of playing In Chicago and with abreu but yea would have taken at least 19mil from the sox and I agree, they need a big time bat to go behind abreu even someone like melky but not Lind or butler etc. but hey maybe Hahn surprises us with a trade. The wait is killing me lol Will see what comes up. in all reality, drives me nuts all the Here-says of Scherzer, V-mart, Smardzija, Panda, Andrew Miller etc. EVERY year we hear of sox with the famous words "SHOWING INTEREST in some of the big boys... but trigger doesn't get pulled. Instead wind up taking the washed up leftovers or Others OUT OF THEIR PRIME in hoping they have a bounce back year. It still goes back to the year that KW was talking of REALLY doing something special of getting 3 players............ Turns out Tigers got Cabrera, Hunter and I forgot who the third player was that signed somewhere else. I can see the same happening this year. All the talk from Hahn and others about being AGGRESSIVE in the off season. Sox pockets cannot and will not compete with the big boys pockets except in the trade/sign rumor mill. will we get good players? probably. Top Notch ones that are proven to be clutch when so many others are pursuing them? probably not. except for Abreu....our history shows otherwise. So I think we can put te pipedreams away of Panda. Miller, Scherzer, Smardzjiza, etc.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 7, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) I saw it and really laugh. it seems as Rosenthal is getting his articles from the same place a Levine. the cost to obtain will be too much. signing him before fa kicks in. too much. I agree totally. Just wanted to throw some more pipedream news out there that's fun to talk about in the off season
  20. Just aw the end of Hit Stove, Rosenthal said Sox are showing interest in Samardjiza. (he didn't reveal his source).Cant even imagine what we would have to give up if it goes through, But Sale Q and Sam would be a nice 3 fit in the playoffs. Not sure how realistic it is of anything actually taking place through. Just wanted to throw this out there for a hope of a good established righty.
  21. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 19, 2014 -> 10:41 PM) Priority 4) Trade Danks Bingo ................I have had about enough of him as well. 15 mil for a guy that has proven its a career year if he wins 10 games?? Bye Bye ASAP
  22. QUOTE (LDF @ Oct 18, 2014 -> 09:56 AM) I agree and would like to add, the sox may not have that one additional superstar that many appears to want, but I trust Hahn in doing the right thing. the sox has more of a need in fielding a competitive team. the sox fans will not accept anything less. find the missing pieces thru free agent signing, continue rebuilding the farm and draft smartly. ref sox fans, has anybody really noticed that we are really that demanding? so can anyone really imagine, for this example only, if the sox would have made a trade for let say a known superstar hitter. put that hitter next with Jose A, I would imagine that the crowd will be coming back in the hundreds. question, which hitter can do that now and what would be a cost? Who? Its insanely laughable, but if you wanna put people in the stands with someone next to Abreu, then Giancarlo Stanton would do the trick. YES I KNOW IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. But you asked what would do it. At what cost? probably whatever THEY wanted for him. The other scenario (or should I say pipedream) Trade for Puig........and sign V Mart (Yes I know V-marts age, but he seldom strikes out and is still proven to be an impact player. Just saying.... want people in the stands? CF Eaton 3B Gillaspie (since he makes contact)(Or whoever plays second base listed below for speed/makes contact and can bunt) RF Puig 1B Abreu DH Vmart LF Garcia SS Alexei 2B (Semien/Sanchez/M.Johnson) C (Whoever) Before anyone goes off on a tangent... I KNOW this is not ever feasable. Just answering the question as to what it would take to get people in the stands next to Abreu. Those 4 in the middle of the lineup with speed /contact hitters ahead of them?? Would love to see it.
  23. QUOTE (BaconOnAStick @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 09:31 PM) If Flowers and Danks gets us Puig I will literally eat Rich Hahn's butthole live on TV. LOL I'll have the DVR all set and ready to go if it takes place with the Hahn thing. I am SURE that no such trade will take place. He just made a comment about their "somewhat " displeasure with Puig and their 2 other needs that they have.
  24. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Oct 8, 2014 -> 08:24 PM) Q for Puig!!! Buy your Puig jersey now Sox fans! My brother lives in Orange County, and he says the same thing. His theory. He said after the 3 starters Dodgers need pitching and a catcher, and that Puig has a mind of his own inside and outside the clubhouse. LA getting tired of it and already have 3 proven outfielders and can unload Puig because of his salary as well as his antics. His theory, Danks ..Flowers for Puig and the Cuban connection of him and Abreu gets reconnected and helps his immaturity. Plus takes the place of Viciedo because he can field better. If Puig was a lefty...then maybe. But if they went after him, then we still have a left handed power bat void. Doubt it will all happen, but he told me "you heard it here first!".
