QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) FWIW, Heyward screams Carl Crawford 2.0 to me That was on my mind as well. A big name, big money who is NOT a top of the line elite franchise player.......and who is a career 260+ hitter who has good defense? That's insane. At least Crawford was batting 300 when he signed his contract and had base stealing upsides.

QUOTE (dayan024 @ Dec 9, 2015 -> 09:04 PM) @chuckgarfien White Sox would like to add a power bat in middle of the order. not a chance but would love to see Chris Davis behind Abreu

Haven't read the whole thread, but I wonder what the long term plan is? 2 catchers signed for one year each. Wondering if possibly they are waiting to see how Weiters pans out after this year?/ ORRR if they have something else completely in mind that we may not be aware of.

MLB free agent predictions: Who should sign Jeff Samardzija?

QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 10:55 AM) Given what's gone on with the Cardinals pitching staff, that's where he needs to go. The question is, would St. Louis, because of the circumstances, move away from their philosophy and aggressively go after free agent pitching. Mark I don;t think they have much choice. their starting rotation really took a hit. Lynn down for 2016, will Martinez be healthy? Is Wacha still the same pitcher? Top pitching prospect Alex Reyes out for suspension. Plus earlier this year, they signed a 15-year television rights extension with FOX Sports Midwest worth more than $1 billion. Given that Cubs and Pitts and a real threat and Cards are known for great pitching, I expect them to be aggressive for FA pitching this year. As far as moving away from their philosophy , they have in the past when needed. Here are a few examples. Granted these numbers are not big, but they were significant at the years they were spent. Jason Isringhausen — $27 million, 4 years (Dec. ’01) Jake Westbrook — $16.5 million, 2 years (Nov. ’10) Andy Benes — $16 million, 3 years (Jan. ’00) Woody Williams — $14.9 million, 2 years (Nov. ’02) Braden Looper — $13.5 million, 3 years (Dec. ’05) Mark Mulder — $11.5 million, 2 years (Nov. ’07) Would LOVE to see Greinke with the cards, but doubt they will go that nuts. But with the TV contract...and given Cubs have deep pockets and are a real threat......you never know. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 4, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) English is so confusing I can understand why people from there don't spend a lot of their time learning a language that they're finding so difficult. Well I wouldn't BANK on building the BANK too near the river BANK. Oh and by the way lovely "K" words. KILL, KANGAROO, KEEP, KEY and then KNOW. The English language learner asks "Hey, why does "KNOW" have a silent "K"? English Teacher responds : "Because it does". Whoever drummed up the English language and it's reasonings behind why words are pronounced the way that they are, must have had a few hits of meth in them in the process. -
Even though this article was taken from Hawk talk, it talks about The Sox and the media as well. A friend sent me this on my Facebook page. Thought I would pass it along. I thought it was well written and hit a lot of points right on the head. Sox/ Cubs media perspectives This was my reply to the article that he sent me Well my Cub fan friend....yes the article has a Lot of good points to it and was very well written. Hopefully your success will ignite the Sox front office and realize that our fan base will really take a hit to the North Siders that captures the heart and media of Chicago. Also front office has to realize that the honeymoon with 2005 is over by now. Making the playoffs 3 times in 20 years and having a wining record just 7 of those years just doesn't friggin cut it! Yes . the article was good , but this enclosed pic also describes how "some" Sox fans feel with the trend that that our side has been going on.now with your Cubbies winning on Top of our 3rd dismal season in a row, we have had enough. We wanna friggin winner . NOW

QUOTE (shipps @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) What about Bobaks near Archer and Cicero? thanks, another place that I forgot about. KNEW that I would get some good responses if I came here. Should have done it in the first place. Us south siders know how to eat and where to find the best.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 15, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) do you have any local butchers you have called? We have one near us called Butcher on the Block that carries their own brats/sausage/hot dogs. Maybe check your area for a butcher and see what they have Red Hots are good, I am a fan of Vienna beef brand as well but they tend to be a little more pricey hmmm yeah I forgot. In Chicago Ridge is an old fashioned butcher shop that only deals with high quality meats Its called Jack and Pats. Will give them a yak

QUOTE (South Sider @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 11:39 PM) Not sure if these are big enough, but here is a picture of them side by side to their regular sized hot dogs. Pure beef with none of the BS, as well. Thanks didnt know trader Joes had those. Nice

Hi, I've been asking around, and no one could give me an answer so I thought I'd post here and hopefully get some leads. On the southwest side...... Looking to buy some Oversized pure beef hotdogs. Sams club sells them at their food court but don't handle them in the refrigerated section. I can find Hebrew National and Nathans anywhere but they are all this as a sharpened pencil. Best Kosher has some thick ones but seems like 2 bites and they are gone they are so short. All deli's around me have thick big hot dogs but they are all pork or pork/chicken. No Clue where to get the monster PURE beef ones. Any leads would help. My location is roughly LaGrange Road and I - 55 . Thanks for any and all replies.

White Sox peripherally make news for Cub Hating

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 14, 2015 -> 10:34 PM) Let's face it. Cub mania is about to explode. The Sox and we Sox fans have a chance to prove our loyalty cause the Sox are gonna be second citizens for a long, long time now that the Cubs have Maddon and are young and playoff bound for years to come. They also as a large market team have the money to spend, spend spend to keep bringing in name players to go with the kids and we as a small market team don't have the $$s to try to right the wrongs of LaRoche and Melky. I realize we've always been second citizens as Sox fans to a certain extent, but this is different. The media has changed a ton since 2005 and our team is now buried in oblivion. Any media coverage our team gets will be secondary. Again, that's probably good cause the Sox are gonna HAVE to get off their asses and escape this flirting with .500 bulls***. It's time to field a consistent winning team SOON or get no attention and see attendance stick to about 15,000 to 18000 a game IMO. Pretty much nailed it on the head.....specially on the bottom portion of your post. Still not convinced on unloading Melky. geeez if just half of the balls that he squared up found a hole he'd be at least 20 points higher in average.(just a ballpark estimate). LaRoche? yeah..... the human poster child for Waste Management. Melky....not quite convinced yet -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 13, 2015 -> 11:35 AM) It's a sweet house. White Sox pennant in one of the bedrooms http://www.movoto.com/chicago-il/48-e-ceda...1-461_09061752/ Darn the loan payment was mere13 grand PER MONTH. I'll PASS .....If it was $12,500 and free landscaping.......I might consider it. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) They just got done eating 2 years and $8.5 million of Jeff Keppinger. Forgot about him. Well, with this year being a disaster, and Cubs on a real high, I feel that the Front office will have to go to extremes to win fans back. Whether they like it or not.............it Starts with eating 15 mil.

QUOTE (Tex @ Oct 8, 2015 -> 07:47 AM) The only road games makes sense to me. Perhaps his final tour. All the years as a player and announcer doing the travelling. As a grandfather, no, 6 months a year is not enough time. Not even close. But I didn't read anywhere that Hawk cited that as a reason. I don;t expect it to be his final tour. He has said emphatically that he would like to die in the announcers booth. The only way that I see it being final for him is that the wind git taken out of his sail so much this year after all of the hype, that maybe he really doesnt see us being a REAL contender any time soon, and sick of using whatever time he has available and getting all bummed out and announcing for continual losers. Then trveling home and gtting up and doing it all over again only to get bummed out some more. I REALLY wonder if he is really taking the time off because he may really BELIEVE that our situation is not REAL Fixable anytime soon into turning us into a DOMINATING consistent threatening MLB team. If we were dominating.......there is no way he'd leave the home booth. With Laroche and Danks (real contract sucker-uppers) and young guys that haven't really shown that they will develope into consistent powerhouse batting stars, plus having so many holes to fill with a limited budget.............. why would he come back? I really think it is his (behind the scenes way) of saying "I have had enough of the same putridness year after year after year with no end in sight." "If I would have had a real reason to stay... I would".
-
Another thing that they are bad at is eating a contract when the player is proven to be sour. LaRoche has no business putting on a sox uniform next year. Ownership knows that he is an automatic out and that there is NO way that ANY fan wants to see him up at the plate ever again. BUT because of the almighty dollar, they would rather pay someone and keep him, (and adding more grief in the fans) than eating a contract that doesn't work and showing the fans "hey we blew it, but we will try and rectify it" (giving the fans some sort of REAL hope for next season.) We went through this with Dunn.....and now because of purse strings, they are going to make us bear through this with LaRoche as well. Is eating his contract the whole answer? Heck No. But at least show the fans that after this past years fiasco (and along with The Cubs being successful) that the organization will do everything within its means to get this team to the playoffs. INCLUDING eating their own pride for the mistakes. Number one priority.....give some hope for the fans and Dump LaRoche. (I sure hope that whoever goes to Sox Fest makes it emphatically known that we do not want this guy back REGARDLESS of what is owed him). In short...I would really like to see this turn into a Sox positive by seeing what kind of (real oysters) the front office has during this off season.
-
Didn't he say the same thing last year? And then after all of the off season acquisitions were done, he changed his mind. So what if JR gets the (you know what's) and decides to eat LaRoche's contract, and acquire some REAL big time help and thunder. You don't think that Hawk will get the ITCH back in him, along with the issues of all of this years disgust being behind us.............and he starts to BELIEVE in our product again?

mmm clicking on the link in my last post and it wont open up try againPrince Shirts vs Blouses
-
i cant find the post, but i asked this question a while back in another thread. The answer that I got was because of this parody video of Prince and his basketball team of Shirts against the blouses. His basketball team were the underdogs, and when they scored a winning blow it was the blouses that won. You'll see Melky doing the EYE thing just like Prince at the end of the video, and the thing with the arms is his imitating a blouse. This comedic video is about 6 minutes long has some pretty foul language in it by the comedian. it will help explain a little why Melky is having so much fun Prince: Shorts vs, The Blouses

I tried to be tactful in the final survey question. My one word answer to describe how I feel about the Sox right now was HEAVYHEARTED. I also addressed the issue that in the last 10 years or more, besides Thomas Ventura and Crede, when is the last time that scouting, drafting and player deveopement brought up HOME GROWN IMPACT Bat/position player whether a consistent 300 hitter or a 35-40 homerun bat that doesn't strike out 200 times. It seems whoever we develope can't ever hit over 240 in the SHOW. It seems that any IMPACT bats that we obtain always have to gotten from other sources outside of our organization. Player developement, scouting and drafting has proven to be futile in the hitting department, and yet year after year the same people remain on board while expecting different results. Just doesn't make sense. Anyway, I doubt anyone in the front office will read it or even "give a hoot" about our opinions, but I wrote them down anyway. (Lastly, my comments were not all negative. I left some positives, but for time and reading space, I'll end my post here)

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 11, 2015 -> 06:10 PM) Sox have not played well within their division so the 4 game series with KC could help decide what the Sox do after those 4 games are finished. agreed big time. I believe also that this is the series that says it all. 1) KC tough team for us to beat. 2) in our division where our record is NOT very good 3) It not only closes the gap on KC and the wild card, but also shows the front office that we can beat someone tough in our division when the status of this team is on the line
