  1. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 04:40 PM) because Williams is going to upset the average fan by not bringing back their favorite grinder I'm not sure if you have to worry about the average fans backlash if Pods doesn't come back. If this message board is the average fan than I think alot of people didn't want him back in the first place. The average fan was happy to see him go. Those fans that are upset that Pods isn't returning, won't even remember Pods after the season actually starts.
  2. They thought a trade would be worked out instead and the Jays would have picked up part of his salary? QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 21, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) According to Terry Boers and his people, the Sox did not think they would be stuck with Rios' salary. That was unplanned.
  3. The three reasons I think we picked up Rios: 1. Dewaye Wise 2. Nick Swisher 3. Brian Anderson Now we know who our center fielder is the next 5 years. There is question as to whether he will succeed but the same question lies with everyone else on the field. Rios is above average defensively and above average offensively.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 18, 2009 -> 08:57 PM) Before anyone else said it... This is a 100% Don Cooper special right here. Let's just hope Coop does a better job with Dolsi than he did with MacDougal, Sisco, Aardsma, Cotts (after 2005), and Masset. He also needs to fix Linebrink, Pena, Putz and Jenks this year too.
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) BJ Upton's offensive upside is not .300/.350. It's not even close to that. In 2008 he put up .273/.383/.401/.784. In 07 he put up .300/.386/.508/.894. BJ Upton's upside is to the friggin moon. If he hits what he's capable of hitting, he's a .850-.900 OPS bat that would be good enough to hit cleanup in some teams' lineups, and he'd be hitting leadoff here. His split stats last year are similar to Randy Winn, but he's also more than 10 years younger than Randy Winn too. Randy Winn is falling off and is going to be a 4th outfielder or retired within the next 2-3 years whereas Upton still has the capability of being one of the top 10 players in all of baseball. I agree Upton has alot more potential and is younger. But Winn will cost you $2M less and no prospects.
  6. I think the Sox are just more financially responsible. If you think at all the money that is thrown around, what percentage of contracts actually end up favoring the team and not the player: Chan Ho Park Darren Dreifort Kevin Brown Mike Hampton Denny Neagle Barry Zito Javier Vazquez (when he signed with NYY) Carl Pavano Bobby Higginson Magglio Ordonez (he was good but isn't worth what he's making now) This is just to name a few. I'm glad we don't get into the bidding wars and end up with a contract that limits our flexibility long term. Also, spending money doesn't guarantee you to win anything. Just look at the Yankees. Top payroll in baseball for I don't know how long and they won their first world series in like 5 years. Our payroll in 2005 was in the $70's and we won it all. We have since spent more money and we've been under .500 twice.
  7. I posted on thesportingnews.com yesterday that I think Hoyer should try and extend Gonzalez. Accelerate his salary. Instead of $5M the next couple years he gets 2010 $15M 2011 $15M 2012 $20M 2013 $20M 2014 $25M He's a franchise player and those don't come around that often. You would strengthen your fan base too. SD fans probably hate the thought of trading him even if it means good players in return. If Hoyer does trade him I would ask for Lester and Buckholz. They want one of my best young players? They have to give me one of theirs.
  8. I think KW made this move to match the Lackey/Cameron signing and the Lee/Halladay trade
  9. Not sure if this was posted yet: http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/archives/...erre_trade.html KW:
  10. Hanley Ramirez for Alexei, Hudson and Morel.
  11. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 08:48 PM) KW may as well go ahead and pull the trigger and bring Prince in. That would be sweet.
  12. QUOTE (striker @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) Eric Byrnes 1. Former Moneyball Player 2. Has Swagger
  13. I still want Randy Winn. Pierre Winn Beckham Quentin Konerko Pierzynski Rios Ramirez Teahen
  14. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Dec 15, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) I just love transactions in the off season. Me too I can't stay off MLBTR, fan-exchange.com or SoxTalk.com for 5 mins.
  15. I think Winn could come close to matching Upton's offensive upside .300/.350. And he wouldn't cost our two best prospects. He'd be a stop gap until Danks or Mitchell are ready.
  16. I wouldn't want Lidge. I watched him pitch in the WS and I think Jenks still has better stuff. The only way I would consider it is if we got a prospect in return that we used to make a bigger splash, Adrian Gonzalez.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 13, 2009 -> 03:57 AM) It's amazing KW is able to trade away as many prospects as he does. At this point, why would any GM even look at a White Sox prospect, let alone trade for one? BA is doing a top 10 prospects of the decade for each team. I can't wait to see ours. It's going to be Beckham and a bunch of raw sewage. You can say that about alot of prospect in alot of organizations. Remember how expensive Todd VanPoppel's Gold Leaf rookies was? He was going to be the next Nolan Ryan. I remember Mets fans posting on MLBTR how Humber and Milledge were untouchable, how did they turn out?
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 9, 2009 -> 12:54 AM) UPDATED VERSION [12.08.09] (CLICK FOR FULL SIZE) Added Mark Teahen's new deal Where do you get the values for service time?
  19. QUOTE (qwerty @ Nov 3, 2009 -> 01:03 AM) The contract was negotiated before the season began, his salary ($402,500) would have remained the same if he never played a game in the majors this season. The sox would have to pick up the entire contract regardless. This should answer your question. Sweet thanks!

I likey. Now trade Linebrink for Gardner. Putz video highlights http://mlb.mlb.com/search/media.jsp?text=p...amp;x=0&y=0
  22. I like this deal. I think Teahen is good for 20hr and 80rbi, which is worth $5mil/year to me.
  23. I have an rss syndication running every 20 mins for about 300 blogs and about 3 twitter accounts. Check it out here: http://www.fan-exchange.com/mlb/news.asp?franchid=CHW
  24. I'm fine with it if he tears it up in spring training. We'll definitely need a plan B if he doesn't continue his success.
