White Sox September To-Do/See List
I still haven't written this season off. We are 6.5 out with 28 games to be played. And Detroit is far from spectacular. I'll give it 10 days before I slit my wrists.

Sox vs. Sawks 8-26-09 Gavin 10-8 3.98 vs. Wake 11-3 4.31
Does anyone else remember that game with Thomas hit 3 homers in one game off Wakefield? I always think of that game whenever Wakefield faces us.

What is your general feeling about the White Sox?
After yesterdays loss, and yet another failed attempt at a sweep, I was furious. But then I began to think, are the White Sox a great team that underachieves? Or do I just expect too much out of them? Are they really a .500 team even though I expect 90 wins? I personally think they are underachievers. The team we have fielded the past few years has been stacked with talent and we haven't gone anywhere with it. Because of this, I feel that if we don't get anywhere this year, it's time to make some MORE significant moves. Just wanted to know what everyone elses thoughts were.

Fields playing worse in Minors than in the Majors
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Guilty. See my predictions in my signature. LOL. I was very optimistic.

Fields playing worse in Minors than in the Majors
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 12, 2009 -> 12:32 AM) I remember when people were penciling him into our starting lineup with thirty homeruns. Guilty. See my predictions in my signature.

2010 Thread
If I had $15mil to spend I would offer Abreu $9 and Winn $3, then spend the rest on relief pitching. RF Winn 3B Beckham DH Abreu LF Quentin 1B Konerko CA Pierzynski CF Rios SS Ramirez 2B Getz That's 4-6 possible .300 hitters, more speed and more consistency.

Blame it on Rios
QUOTE (striker62704 @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) He's not younger but he hits for a higher average and has more speed. I'd rather have .300 hitters with 20hr than .260-.280 hitters that hit 30-35hr. I think you'd find more consistency with our hitting then too. Plus Abreu can play LF or RF (although not that great) so it adds depth to our team. Our DH could be our 4th outfielder.

Blame it on Rios
QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 11, 2009 -> 06:10 PM) And we will replace them with the youth of Bobby Abreu? He's not younger but he hits for a higher average and has more speed. I'd rather have .300 hitters with 20hr than .260-.280 hitters that hit 30-35hr. I think you'd find more consistency with our hitting then too.

Blame it on Rios
I'd rather see Abreu DH and Winn in RF next year. I think we need a DH that can field, at least part time. I know Abreu isn't that great of a fielder but he can field and Thome can't. Which means Abreu could play against NL teams. Abreu would bring a higher average, more speed and defense that Thome can't provide. Winn would be an upgrade over Dye with speed and defense. Their hitting, obp are the same. I just think we need to get away from old sluggers, and that's what Thome and Dye are, IMO.

White Sox Acquire Alex Rios Off Waivers
I like this move and I'm wondering if this is a change in philosophy, putting more emphasis on defense and speed vs. power. I wouldn't mind seeing both Dye and Thome leave and see an Abreu or Winn, someone with more speed and higher batting average (I know Winn is having a bad year). I didn't see any highlights or read any notes about yesterdays game. Can someone fill me in on what ruffled KW's feathers?

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Please don't tell me you're judging a guy who's averages the last 3 years before this one were .302, .297, and .291 based on the fact that he didn't hit .300 in those last 2 seasons. (Not even bothering to go to the OPS or OPS+ levels here either). All I'm saying is this move doesn't make sense to us. IMO

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:15 PM) One hits 300 this year and is over 30 and was sitting at home at the beginning of this year. The other has hit near 300 with a ton of doubles and plays great D in CF for the last few years and is 28. Please don't tell me that you dont think that Pods is better than Rios. Rios has a career .285 average, batted over .300 once. Oh btw, Pods costs about 1/24th of Rios.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) Rios would move to CF. Pods would probably move to LF, Q to DH or Dye to DH. Remember, this is move not for just this year. But for the next few. Kenny is trying to build a consistant contender. Not just a one year flash in the pan..... You are just trying to convince yourself it's us and it's not

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) Rios would play CF... he is better than Pods. Defensively, but that's it. Pods has a better AVG and OBP, leads off, and has been key to our teams turnaround this year.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
Where would Rios play? RF = Quentin, CF = Pods, RF = Dye It's not the Whitesox.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (chunk23 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:36 PM) If we put him in CF where he belongs he's absolutely worth his contract. Plus his BABIP is some 40 points below his career average, so there's a huge chance for a bounceback, especially in the Cell. You know, alot of people claim that offensive numbers will go up if a player moves to the Whitesox due to the Cell. I don't buy it though. Everyone thought Swisher would hit 30-35 hrs because of the Cell and he was still a crappy hitter.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:29 PM) It doesn't work like that right now. IF we claimed Rios, the Jays can stick us with the entire contract, no questions asked, and no negotiations involved. Yeah I know. I was basically saying that I wouldn't claim him if I were KW.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers
Theres no way I would take on that contract without the Jays eating some of it.

Quentin Showing off in Charlotte
The good thing is that we have been winning without CQ, which will allow us to rest him without too much caution after he comes back up.

I lost all respect for mlbtraderumors.com once Tim Dierkes posted that it's against the rules to syndicate their content. All of their content is syndicated. hypocrit

Will we make the playoffs?
I saw another post with this topic but I wanted to get an official tally. I really think if the bottom of the order can start producing then we'll be OK. Right now Beckham is on a tear and Wise is hitting good too.
