  2. Jim Webb is out: "Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country. Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President."
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 12:44 PM) I honestly think you would need to pay 75K people to go watch McCain speak. even then about half would fall asleep either from boredom or old age. PS: NOT taking a shot at mcCain's age. He tends to have a significantly older demographic.
  4. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) RAH RAH RAH! IMPRESSIVE! WOOT! He's just messing with people's heads. Psychological stuff. WOOOHOOOO! Your post pretty much tells me what I need to know about Obama's substance, IMO. what? he cant play psychological games with the GOP? He pretty much psyced Clinton out in the primaries. She had no idea what hit her until it was too late.
  5. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) Obama moves the last day of the Democratic Convention to Mile High Stadium. 75,000 people will be there to watch his acceptance speech. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0708/11558.html Last time a candidate did this was when JFK did the same in 1960 at the LA Memorial Colosseum. That's a huge psychological thing. THe visuals there are huge. Compare that to where McCain holds these small townhalls with 50-100 people. He's just messing with the GOps head now.
  6. McCain concedes.......... that Obama is patriotic.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 01:08 PM) PLAYERS SHOULDN"T VOTE!! green I believe the NFL system is for the entire roster and it's 1/3 fans, 1/3 coaches, 1/3 players. I think it's the best system out there.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 6, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) bahahahahahaha JASON VARITEK?!?!??! The 6 starters plus 2 pitchers from Boston and NY werent enough

    Fireworks

I was never a huge fan of "consumer" fireworks, but a few years ago I tipped over the edge. At a 4th of July celebration in Hoffman Estates, I went to go see the fireworks with some friends and my younger sister. We were in an open field with LOTS of people sitting on the ground on blankets. Two guys were standing on the edge with Roman candles (I think that is what they were) and all of a sudden one guy pointed is horizontally and started aiming them INTO THE CROUD!!! One missed a family on a blanket by less than 6 ft and one went about 10 ft behind my sisters back. They were not arrested! From that day on, I am all for a 100% ban on consumer fireworks. Leave it do those who have the permits and training.
  12. In this election year, there has been and there will be a lot of bickering and squabbling not only on these boards, but across the country. I think it's important we reflect this 4th of July as to just how lucky we are to be able to do this. We are privileged to elect our president.... to openly debate policy. We are blessed to live in this great country. We might not always agree, but that is what makes this country great. In the past year, I have tried to be more appreciative of the little things in life. I would urge you to do that this 4th. Have a great 4th of July. Be Safe. I am AThomeBoy_2000..... and I approve this message
  13. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 08:31 PM) They are trying to showcase Uribe, and the position of need is SS. Once Uribe is gone, Alexei is your backup SS. Exactly my point. Uribe starting at SS was a big flag to me.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 08:27 PM) Either that or it's been an awful long time since Cabrera had a day off, and if Uribe is on the shopping block, then we may as well rest the OC for a day or two while we still have a solid defensive SS behind him. I think they have moved Alexie to short late in the gam a few times. you'd think he'd be given time. But they left him at 2B and have Uribe at SS.
  15. I missed all the pre-game stuff today. I saw that Uribe is started at short this evening. Safe to assume he's being showcased?
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 04:59 PM) Folks, just as a reminder...this is still called the "GOP only" thread. I've said my piece defending my candidate. I'm out.
  17. John McCain's Press Release on Barack Obama's Iraq policy. The holes in it dont even warrant explaining. It's one whole page of completely inaccurate and FALSE assumptions. Best Line of the Night: For the McCain campaign to put out a memo to reporters claiming that Obama has adopted McCain's policy only shows that his advisors believe that a sizable percentage of the political press is made up of incorrigible morons. And it's hard to disagree with the judgment.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 04:22 PM) And yet you can say with a straight face that McCain wants to fight a war in Iraq for 100 years... I do not. he wants to be in Iraq for a 100 years AFTER the fighting ends. The problem is when that 100 years kicks in. When does the fighting stop? These groups have been fighting since far before the countries original 4th of July. John McCain has offered no strategy or time line for the fighgitn to end. he has said we will fight until there is peace and then stay there 100 years... maybe a thousand.
  19. LMAO! The McCain campaign just issued a press release that Barack Obama just took John McCain's position on the war in Iraq and that he flip-flopped on Iraq troop withdrawal. Apparently they missed the part where he said we will be out of Iraq in 16 months barring some unforeseen circumstance.
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) Happy Birthday America, sorry your national anthem doesnt apply to me. That's not acceptable in any way shape or form. AKA, this was a political move and she didnt want the organizers to find out.
  21. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 04:18 PM) Until tomorrow, when he answers the question just a bit different to fit the audience and the questioner. oh good lord. Obama says he'd refine his policy and everyone (including nearly every media company) ASSUMED he meant he would reconsider withdrawal. The problem? HE NEVER SAID IT! All I have read is that he would refine it. Not the withdrawal, the tactics involved. Here's his full bloody quote: What did the press run with? "I'm sure I'll have more information and will continue to refine my policies" OMG!!! HE'S STAYIN GIN IRAQ FOR 10 YEARS!!! HE FLIP-FLOPPED!
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/opinion...,0,755653.story Obama is in ND right now saying flat out this war will end and we will begin withdrawing troops immediately. He is not chanign his 16 month withdrawal time table. He is going to Iraq to get more information on how to prepare the Iraqi people for our leaving.. As someone just said on TV, Obama is saying that when he goes to Iraq he is there to refine his tactic, not his strategy. Meaning, the tactics of withdrawal, not to refine his overall strategy of pulling out.
  23. For what it's worth: Iowa City to offer forgivable downpayment loans
