Daggins, are you from the Chicago area? I can't believe anyone who listens to Hawk with any kinda regularity thinks that article was overly homeristic. I was ready to dismiss it as typical Hawk nonsense, but he was pretty fair in his assessments. In fact, the only thing that I thought was lame was the whole if Maggs/Frank don't get hurt we win it all in '04. Not with that pitching staff.
-
QUOTE (daggins @ Jan 23, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) It's still mostly fluff. I'm glad he is down with the idea of Alejandro De Aza, MLB Centerfielder. The OF defense has a chance to be better but right field in USCF is apparently to be perpetually manned by statues. I liked the dig at Belle too. He didn't say anything ridiculous. At least not for him. I expected a bunch of excuses for '11 and everybody is going to break out and have a career year in '12 spew.

Wow, that was a pretty good piece. I was expecting fluff, fluff and more fluff.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:54 PM) I'll never forget the Click-Clack Under Armour commercials they unveiled when he entered the draft. The guy is a specimen. Give him Brady or Brees and you'd see every record for TEs obliterated. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:29 PM) Why wasn't it pursued? When McQueary came over to Joe Pa's house and told him about the incident, why didn't Joe Pa call the authorities right then and have them come over and discuss it? If you think it doesn't have anything to do with hurting PSU's reputation, you are fooling yourself. If Joe had an 8 year old get raped and someone told him about it, he would have acted differently. First of all, stop with the if this was Joe's son, daughter, grandson or whatever he would've done differently. Everybody puts their own first before all else and would do s*** without a moment's thought that they wouldn't do for somebody else who wasn't as close to them. This isn't the "Good Son" where the woman at the end chose to let her son die and save her nephew. That would never, ever happen in real life. Secondly, I can think of a lot of reasons on why Joe wouldn't immediately call the police based off of something somebody else told him. The obvious one being this was a close and respected friend of his and accusations like this can, you know, ruin lives.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:24 PM) First, you are holding McQueary to the same standard and he did the same thing Joe Pa did. The minimum, he just ran it up the chain and blew it off. So if I'm "Eating Gilbert Grape retarded" , look in the mirror, you'll see someone else who is as well. Joe Pa is the boss. The leader. More is expected of him, and if he truly was half as great as all the accolades he's been given, he wouldn't have screwed this up as bad as he screwed it up. Sorry. One person saw it. The other didn't.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:09 PM) JoePa probably had more pull in Happy Valley than the Police. If Joe Pa wanted it really taken care of, it would have been. He's already said he f***ed up, but would he have ever thought he f***ed up if all this hadn't come out and his job was never on the line? Has he thought he screwed up at all from the time of the incident until this story came out? I'm so sick of hearing people say they are sorry for screwing up when what they really are sorry for is being caught. I'm sorry. This is just Leonardo Dicaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape retarded. Why are you holding Joe P to a different standard because of his status? That has nothing to do with anything. His job? The dude was how old at the time? It's not like he was 30 and had another 30+ years of coaching ahead of him.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 07:02 PM) You never see fat defensive backs in the NFL. It's not like baseball and basketball where you find fat players at speed positions (SS, CF, PG). I guess that's a product of non-guaranteed contracts. lol. Never thought of it like that. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:50 PM) I dunno, the way I see it if you have a son who is drafted by another sports team than your favorite, all bets are off. If my son ended up playing for the Packers, I wouldn't stop being a Bears fan, but I would root for the Packers because of my son... that is one of only a couple of exceptions that make that happen (the other one being if I myself were to be drafted by the Packers) And I totally forgot about that. So just disregard that post. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:39 PM) Maybe if the 49'ers win the Superbowl, Kenny will be is a super good mood and go ahead and sign Cepedes/Soler for us. That's be great. I thought he was a Raiders fan? -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:20 PM) A clueless moron? We aren't talking about somebody cheating on their taxes or stealing booze from a grocery store. It's child rape. Kids' entire lives have been destroyed. Look, I just watched a YT vid the other day of a crazy f***ing b**** yelling "DIE! DIE!" as she's stabbing her infant child in the background of a 911 call made by some dope that didn't feel the need to try and stop the b**** first and then maybe make the call. That's the type of s*** that deserves limitless fury. You're just looking at the end result of this particular situation. Intent is big with me. Joe P indirectly contributed to an atrocity. Nobody is denying that. If Mike M had gone to the cops immediately after he saw what he saw, that would've been that.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:14 PM) Trust me, I've made more mistakes by 24 than most people do their entire life but what Paterno enabled is more than a mistake. And if I had a family member do what Paterno did I at the very least would have no contact with that person. No you wouldn't. You wouldn't cut off your father, brother, uncle or somebody you were really close to for being a clueless moron.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) Besides that, kids got raped. Sorry. I know. And the two people responsible are still alive. Just like it's not Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold's parents' fault that they decided to shoot up Columbine.
-
QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:43 PM) Who mocked his death? I just have an issue with his MASSIVE mistake, which could have prevented children from being raped, gets casually tossed aside now that he's dead. Rowand did. A few others. lol@casually tossed aside. The guy was fired from his job and his legacy is forever tainted. What more do you want? QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:45 PM) When you are the most important person on the whole campus, you should take care of it yourself, not pass it along to your "superiors". But whatever, we don't need to get this whole debate going like you said. I will say that from all accounts JoePa seemed like a great guy for 99.9% of his life. But that 0.1% may have ruined several kids' lives, so I don't think you can just ignore it. Ahhh, so since Joe was a famous icon, he was supposed to go all Law and Order Special Victims unit? Was he supposed to be detective Stabler? Yes, he should've followed up and made sure the situation was handled or in the process of being handled. That was the crucial mistake. Besides that, sorry. This is all Sandusky/McQueary
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:30 PM) I get your point, but after JoePa f***ed up, more boys were raped. After they "banned" Sandusky from the campus, he was still seen all around with the boys. JoePa ran that football program and campus, if there was anyone who could have done something, it was him. But he didn't. Sandusky is definitely the true monster, but JoePa could have and should have done way more to stop it while it still went on. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 05:33 PM) Not pardoning Paterno does not mean Sandusky isn't a monster or MCp**** wasn't spineless. Bulls*** I don't care how great a coach he was. There's no f***ing way you can claim "ignorance" in a case of child rape. He did the bare minimum in terms of legality. Whoop dee f***ing doo. A man who preached morals let YEARS pass with nothing happening to that monster. I personally can't imagine HOURS passing before asking what the hell is going on. I also refuse to believe that "what impact will this have on the school and the football program?" never crossed his mind. Honestly, I'm not getting into this debate again. JP was stupid, naive, whatever you want to call it. He trusted those above him to handle the situation and it didn't get handled. He didn't see anything. All he had was somebody tell him that something happened. THAT'S the person that should've went to the cops right then and there. I'm done with this. If you want to mock the man's death, have fun. I'm not. He was a good man. f*** it. A great man as far as I'm concerned.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2012 -> 04:32 PM) J4L my friend, this is your best post. And Sandusky is one of the worst humans alive. Paterno would most likely be alive and getting ready to die in peace if not for him. I've been consistent from the beginning. I know JP f***ed up. He's admitted that from the beginning and he's paid the price. I'll save my true rage for baby killers and s*** like that. I've got too many of my own demons that need exorcising before I condemn an elderly man for making a mistake. The true monster here is and always has been Sandusky. Closely followed by the spineless coward that is Mike McQueary.

Yes, RIP indeed. This was a good man, great coach who had a big lapse in judgement and acknowledged that. Hopefully the true culprits, the one who committed the acts and the one who actually SAW a crime taking place, get what's coming to them.

Hey, if you get past the whole lifetime is only supposed to be for middle-aged, overweight, non-working housewives, you'd be surprised on some of the good stuff they show. They hyped up the Drew Peterson story for a good 6 weeks. I wanted to see it. Can't help it that it was on lifetime.
