  1. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:42 AM) I think he would have done just as good as a guy like Melo, who did just as good IN COLLEGE like other guys that have failed in the NBA but still ruled the college game. It doesn't equate to each level like you're arguing. Melo was like an 18-year old freshman and did what he did. What would he have done as a 20-year old junior?
  2. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:38 AM) How? One guy is dropping 35 with crazy shots/drives/whatever, the other is...dropping 35 with crazy shots/drives/whatever. And hell, with the defensive rules it's harder for college players to go off like that since you can cheat over with a double team. You don't even need hindsight for this. What would Kobe have done to the college game if he had gone? And this was back when it wasn't so watered down.
  3. QUOTE (He_Gawn @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:35 AM) So then don't watch it and quit spamming the thread like a nancy boy. College basketball is very enjoyable to most. I can't even make it through an NBA game. You want to watch a college basketball NBA team? Watch Kentucky. You seem to be about as cool as their fans. No. Just like people can come into the NBA thread and b**** about how horrible the NBA is. I'll do the same thing after last night's tragedy that was Michigan/Illinois.
  4. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:32 AM) So go watch the Sixers. Or the Nuggets, Thunder, Spurs, etc.
  5. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:30 AM) But my counter is that Morrison destroyed college basketball, so it's the same thing as watching Kobe. Is Kobe shooting fall away jumpers against NBA competition really that much different than Morrison hitting fall away jumpers against college competition? Yeah, it really, really is.
  6. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:26 AM) I just laugh at the notion that it's better basketball when one guy goes ISO versus a college team that almost always runs set plays or styles. Obviously not every NBA team does, and there are still set plays. But it's still pick and roll or ISO offense 95% of the time. You know, the Bulls didn't always run the triangle when they were winning 6 rings. You're supposed to run iso for J.J. Redick? The talent is too inferior to run iso consistently even if you wanted to. If LeBron had went to Duke, trust me, they would've been playing very little "team" ball.
  7. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:16 AM) I mean, I agree on Harangody. But he was never even first team All-American. That's why I asked why you listed him over the likes of Stephen Curry, Blake Griffin, Evan Turner... Curry has shocked most everybody. He wasn't supposed to be this good. Didn't Blake only go to college for a year? I'll give you Turner. Look, I'm not saying college hoops is a joke per se. I just go nuts when college hoops fans take a dump all over the NBA because they're making millions and pump up a clearly inferior product because, well, I don't even know why.
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:06 AM) LOL, why these guys? Do you just hate white people? Luke Harangody? What? Stop. Big East fans used to overrate the s*** out of that bum. Put some shorts on Christian Laettner and he'd dance all over these "great" college players of the last few years.
  9. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:04 AM) Lol, your four examples are pretty hilarious. The first two were some of the best offensive players in the history of college basketball, equal to a guy like Kobe playing against NBA competition. Harangody? How is he even in this discussion? He was an average college player for bad teams. And Hansbrough put up some decent stats in his four years at one of (if not the top) program in the country. There's not as much scoring in college because you have a longer shotclock and a shorter game. Obviously they're not as skilled as their NBA counterparts, but they're still entertaining because literally anything can happen. The NBA is much more scripted - oh, you have 2 all starts and we have none? Looks like you're winning, why even watch? Also, there is simply no comparison to the atmosphere of 5,000 crazy college kids near the floor v. a bunch of old rich folk sitting next to the bench. The environment in college bball is second to none. Again, fans, atmosphere, NCAA tourney. I get all that. That has nothing to do with the game itself. I can't even watch college basketball drunk anymore. It's so watered down and pathetic. We've gone from the Fab Five, the Running Rebels, those great Duke teams of the early 90's to this? Oh my god. Where's my glock? I feel like shooting myself for even watching last night's game.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) A horrible game to watch is what it is. No. Big ten basketball is what's horrible.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:56 AM) This. You don't have to have dunks to have a good product. Dunks are the home runs of the NBA. Its the thing to keep the people with the short attention spans amused while the real game goes on. No. Skills and talent are why the NBA is what it is. Or was Michael Jordan just a really great dunker before 1991?
  12. You might've had a case in the 90's. Today? Disgusting. Adam Morrison? J.J. Redick? Luke Harangody? Tyler Hansbrough? This is the best the college game has had to offer over the last half decade (I'm not including guys like Rose who were forced to go to college for a year)?
  13. QUOTE (danman31 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:18 AM) I've never noticed a difference in the effort. There are guys dogging it in college too. One thing the college game has on the NBA is exciting finishes. The game is almost never over because these college kids can choke and do so regularly. It's fun to see a team s*** itself at a full-court press with an 8 point lead. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) I think this is the biggest difference and the reason people prefer college. When you have so many more teams that are of similar talent and age levels, there tends to be way more action at the end of the game. It's not the skill of basketball that makes the NCAA tournament so awesome, it's the excitement and randomness. I agree here. What makes me want to puke is when people say the college game is better. That's just false. Last night's Illinois game was putrid. Just awful. An embarrassment to the essence of basketball. And that wasn't an anomaly. Games like last night happen all the time. But that's ok. That's just young men trying hard. Zzzzzzzz. But a 84-78 game in the NBA is just bad basketball. What's entertaining about watching future insurance salesmen be mediocre?
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 10:30 PM) Big Ten basketball, you are f***ing awful. Remaining Big Ten players that transferred to Iowa State, I have no idea how you won tonight. Royce White is a f***ing animal. College basketball has become f***ing awful. lol@anybody who says college > NBA. Please. Just because college players don't get paid and the normal every day dude can relate to them better (i.e. they try so hard just like I do at my job) doesn't make the product better.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) If Adam Dunn hit 45-50 home runs would we win the division? Perhaps.
  16. Wait a minute. Badger, are you saying a 13-year old boy/girl should be able to legally consent to sex with somebody 18+?
  17. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 05:05 PM) Derrick is never going to publicly recruit Howard, he would essentialy be throwing his team mates, most notably Noah under the bus... And that's dumb. We saw what Kobe did. He called out the entire organization and they got him Gasol, Ariza, Artest (or World Peace. God that's so gay), etc. And two championships later, I'm sure Kobe doesn't regret it one bit.
  18. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:57 PM) Why have any law denying anyone from having consensual sex? If Im 12 and a hot 18 year old wants a piece of me, whats wrong with that? Im usually the last person to defend statutory laws, I think that as soon as you get rid of mens rea you lose a lot of legitimacy on a criminal conviction. That being said, you cant just change the rules for hot teachers, or for boys. The rules are the rules, so if its okay for adults to have sex with kids, its okay. If its not, its not. Bad facts make for bad law, and "hot teacher" makes for bad facts. Personally I think the law should be changed and most statutory crimes erased. But Id guess Im in the severe minority. Do we know yet the age of this gentlemen? I'm assuming he's 17 based on the comments section. And this is not a recent article. It looks to be at least 3-4 weeks old. I'm not interested in this enough to go more in depth. If he was at least 16, there's nothing wrong here.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:38 PM) I never said "all boys". I was referring to myself at age 17. I guarantee my dad would have given approval for that action anyway so it'd be a moot point. I'm saying all boys. The legal age of consent in most states is 17. But god forbid a 17-year old boy bucks a teacher. GMAB. How dare we impede our youth in this way? I would like to shake the hand of this young man.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) In Ohio, the age of consent is 16 unless the other person is a teacher/parent/administrator/coach/something like that with the person, in which case the age of consent is 18. They need to do away with that nonsense. If I'm 16/17 and I have a chance to ream something that looks like that, it's on. Shouldn't be a crime at all.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 04:02 PM) I'm not sure where the idea that the student was 17 is coming from, I don't see it in the article. The comments in the article certainly hint at the "victim" being 17.
  22. I love when Shack goes into beast mode. I'm gonna think of something that will rile/piss him off so I can be entertained.
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 31, 2012 -> 01:15 PM) Don't call that one too early. I believe Wall got off to a pretty solid start last year but his numbers backtracked some while Griffin got better. Brandon Jennings was scoring 22 a game in November 09 and finished the season scoring 15.5. There's only 40-somethin' games left. I'd say those two have clearly established themselves as the top rookies. Not sure who else will legitimately enter the equation between now and the end of the season. This isn't a particularly strong class. Edit: Jesus, I didn't realize Erving was shooting almost 52% from the field and over 40% from deep. That's f***in' impressive for anybody, let alone for a rookie with, what, 10 games of college experience?
