2012 Cuban signees thread Cespedes/Soler/Concepcion

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) So they don't have to pay him the $27 million until he reaches the majors? The money is obviously guaranteed. I just didn't understand your minor league war comment. It's not like in 4 years he's a FA again. He's Cubs property for a while. Everybody knew he wasn't ready for the majors right now. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 14, 2012 -> 08:36 AM) How much minor-league WAR would he have to put up to be worth $20 million? You know his service time clock won't begin until he reaches the majors, right? -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 07:49 PM) He was 84 when he died in 2004 at least...maybe he was just 8 years and a month late posting this... I keep telling 2k5 he doesn't have to worry about balta catching him. He doesn't listen.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 13, 2012 -> 07:44 PM) I don't know who that is, but he died in 2004 according to Wikipedia. If this is the same guy, 2k5 deserves a 40 day suspension. I had never head of this dude, either.

All I know is I'm done with all things Twitter. Well, at least when it comes to MLB. Lee to the Phillies last year. Fielder to the Tigers. The Pineda/Montero trade. The Latos deal. Pujols to the Angels was even a "WTF." Where the hell did the A's come from? Even with all this Social Media out there, GMs have become more stealth than ever. -
Knight, you can count me out of this one. I'm stickin' to three leagues this year. The two Soxtalk keepers and Don's 20-team blob.

Pujols, Cano, Tulo, Kershaw. Still undecided between Price and Weaver. Anyway, to whomever has Longoria, I'm interested.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) The Tigers remain very interested in both Yoenis Cespedes and Jorge Soler. The Prince Fielder signing cost them their first-round draft pick, and President Dave Dombrowski is very concerned about the level of talent in his farm system. phil rogers The numbers being bandied about are a once-in-lifetime anomaly. Suddenly, some of these kids are worth 5-10-15X what they were worth just mere months ago. The White Sox are always going to take their odds with 4-6 Dayan Viciedo's than one Cespedes. Putting all their eggs in just a few baskets has crippled the major league payroll, they're not about to be hamstrung by another bad deal unless the scouts have reached a consensus on Yoenis...especially the CF versus corner outfielder issue. To say that Viciedo wasn't highly-sought after because of the $10 million versus $40-60 million numbers for Cespedes is a bit disingenuous. Let's say you and 2k5 are right and the numbers for some of these guys are bloated because of the soon-to-be-cap. The White Sox of all teams are going to pounce last minute? That's like me going on a bible binge or something. I'll be pissed off as f*** if the White Sox NOW decide that international talent matters. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 08:30 PM) Nobody would have dreamed of Soler getting $15-25 million and Conception anywhere in the vicinity of $7 million even six months ago. For all we know, the kid from the Padres or Hector Santiago might end up having a better major league career than someone the Cubs just spent more than an entire White Sox FA draft on. What the hell does this have to do with the Sox and Cespedes? -

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Cespedes and Soler are investments in the future. That's why they will get money and Buehrle wouldn't. And you'd be making sense if we weren't talking about the White Sox (or Astros). -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 08:16 PM) How is that even a prediction? That's straight up fact. I threw that out there in anticipation of somebody saying "Hahahaha, that's not as bad as you arguing the Knicks had a case over the Bulls." You know it's coming. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 08:06 PM) Will you get over the dollars. The only reason Cespedes is getting this much is because of the new caps going in on July 2. Wrong. That money was coming the second that YT video came out. I'm not saying that's right. But it's pretty much fact. -

QUOTE (Felix @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) Nope 12 offensive rebounds though (admittedly on a lot of his own misses) lol@your sig. That's almost as bad as when Duke said he wouldn't trade Deng for Dwight straight up. Oh, and save the Knicks crap, people. That was a prediction gone terribly wrong. Not the first and it won't be the last bad prediction I make. But Dwight >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Deng. -

Forget about Dayan. In the end, he signed for, what, $10 million? If all these teams were genuinely interested in him (not just a token glance), he would've went for a lot more. Cespedes is a different beast. Just because Ozzie's gone doesn't mean the organizational philosophy has changed. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 07:31 PM) No one has said at this point. My fault. I shouldn't have ended with a question mark. I'm just assuming she overdosed.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 07:10 PM) AP reporting Whitney Houston, 48. My sister is literally in tears. If she was into message boards, her name would be Whitney4life. She idolized that woman. I'm assuming she overdosed?

I'm not saying Viciedo was a nothing deal. But inking Cespedes would be like (ridiculous posting fee aside) the Sox signing Darvish. Edit: I take it back. Can't ignore the posting fee when it comes to Darvish. Point remains the same. -

Which is what makes it a nice story. I don't deny that. But this is ridiculous. The headline in the NY post the other day was "Kobe vs Lin." Are you serious? Don't insult one of the 10 best players to ever lace 'em up like that. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 06:33 PM) Viciedo was a very big deal. The dollars just weren't as big which is clouding your judgment. They weren't as big because Viciedo was/is not as good. Everybody knew he wouldn't stick at 3B. Everybody knew he couldn't run. The OF is even questionable at best. Cespedes is supposed to be a legitimate 5-tool talent. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 06:27 PM) No they wouldn't have. They have been one of the leading spenders in Cuba. Ramirez and Viciedo were nowhere near as coveted as Cespedes is. I'm not saying I don't want the Sox to sign him. I'd love it. I just don't see it happening unless the organization has FINALLY decided that they need to start ponying up for premier amateur talent. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) We just made a $60 million plus commitment to a 26 year old. Danks wasn't an international signing. For the Sox to sign Cespedes, they would have to deviate away from what they've been about for the last decade. -

Lin is in a zone right now. That's all it is. If he wasn't a Knick or Asian, nobody would care about this. Can he play in the NBA? Maybe. I don't really think he can. But I'd consider him the overachiever of overachievers if he were to be even the next Kirk Hinrich. -

QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Feb 11, 2012 -> 06:10 PM) I just keep coming back to the fact that during that same time period, KW offered Fukodome more than $50 million. All the more reason why they wouldn't pull the trigger.
