  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 06:48 PM) An OPS in the low .700's is "no problems"? .756 to be exact. And he's shown enough to expect an increase in productivity going forward. I don't have this unrealistic illusion that every top prospect that comes up needs to produce like Dwight Gooden or Miguel Cabrera.
  2. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Ok Tyler Flowers, put up or shut up for the next few days. His bat simply has to come around or he isn't a Major Leaguer. His defense is terrifying behind the plate. Does he have a worse throwing arm than AJ? This is a legitimate question. The couple times I've seen him try to throw out a basestealer I was like wtf?
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 03:07 PM) In that case, you need to stop paying attention to prospects, period. Because they're almost never part of the solution right out of the gate. No, I'm not going to stop paying attention to prospects because the White Sox have no idea how to develop any. Nobody expected Morel to challenge for the ROY. But nobody expected him to be this bad, either. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 03:55 PM) Btw, did you notice Longoria is hitting .232 this year? He's part of the problem over there in Tampa. This issue where prospects don't turn into what they were supposed to? That's what happens with most of them. That's why developing a team of homegrown players is not quite as easy as throwing a s***load of money into scouting and drafting. Yeah, because Longoria didn't have a proven pedrigree going into this year. Maybe the Rays should sell low? Meanwhile, guys like Hellickson and Jennings have fared just fine (though the same size is still small with Jennings). QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 04:55 PM) And neither has Morel. Hosmer and Crow have had no problems to this point. If you want to call out the guys that have struggled, give credit to the guys that have held their own.
  4. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) I pointed it out because Balta's example was Moustakas, who has been quite awful. I remember when I wanted Kila Ka'aihue for this team. Man, he didn't work out either. He's been straight garbage. I have no problem admitting that. It annoys me that I seemingly hate only White Sox prospects. If come October and we're sitting at home watching other teams play for the 9th time in 11 years under KW, I'm not going to put it all on Dunn/Rios/Peavy. Beckham/Morel will be on my s***list as well.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) In all fairness, you did pimp the entire Royals farm system earlier this year, saying when Hosmer, Moustakas, & Co. joined the club they would go on an Atlanta Braves type run. And you've also pimped Drabek a lot. Who didn't hype up that system? And most of their guys haven't even had a full year in the bigs yet.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) Oh, so you only pimp Blue Jays prospects other than the ones who struggle, I see. If you pay any attention to this game at all...the number of guys who come up, succeed right away, wind up making all star teams, and then never go through a period of struggling is miniscule, yet you expect exactly that from the White Sox, and you judge the fact that this doesn't happen to be a fireable offense. By your standards Justin Verlander would be an utter disappointment because he put up an ERA of nearly 5 in 2008. Bulls***. I never said that Beckham/Morel had to be Cano/Longoria. I wiped the slate clean with Beckham coming into this year. Suffice it to say he's failed miserably. Morel? He's been Chone Figgins bad. I don't agree with picking on the guys that make a lot of money and making excuses for the guys that make 500K. You ain't part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) I assume you're ready to give me a lecture about how the Royals never should have drafted Moustakas and he's a total waste? He's on the Royals and he can't even hold down their starting 3b job. Or how stupid the Blue Jays were to trade for Kyle Drabek? I mean Drabek has a WHIP of 1.78. He's putrid. Not just bad, Brian Anderson is a better pitcher than him. Where do you get this idea that I pimp every single prospect from every single team? Both the guys you've named have been disappointments this year. Matt Wieters has been the biggest disappointment of them all. He's a stud defensively. But offensively he's lacking.
  8. Hawk also said Ruben Sierra had a chance to be one of the best players to ever play the game.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 01:40 PM) I think it's downright criminal that the same person can be as prospect/draft obsessed as you are and then simultaneously totally unwilling to have young guys who struggle. There's struggling and being the equivalent to an NL pitcher. Beckham has regressed every which way from 2009. And he's not 21. He'll be 25 come September. Morel has been putrid. Not just bad. Brian Anderson bad.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 01:13 PM) You have to wonder if Sox are going to have lowest ranked farm system after this year? Teams that were generally ranked below them, like the Brewers and Astros, have seen really good years for their minor leaguers and/or traded for prospects. I try my best to keep up with every system. Like you said, the Brewers and Astros have been jolted by this year's draft and trades. I can't imagine another system worse than ours as of right now.
  11. Nice to see Mitchell/Thompson both leading their respective leagues in Ks. And Walker seems to be of the same ilk. Good lord this franchise is bad at drafting. Really, really, bad.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 13, 2011 -> 12:49 PM) He's right though, you have to look at Beckham and Alexei as well. I like Gordon, I think he's a good guy and I love his defense and his hustle, but his plate appearances are almost uncomfortable to watch. Alexei hit .220 in July and is hitting .205 in August. Just brutal. I think it's downright criminal the pass guys like Beckham and Morel have gotten around here. Who cares that they don't make any money. They play every day and have been atrocities offensively.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) A record 2 games over .500, cheating allegations, and a pitching staff that would be at the bottom of the AL if it weren't for Baltimore and 3 teams in the AL Central? I don't care about this year. And the cheating allegations are just that. That team, whether it materializes or not, is set up to go on a run. This is what myself, Tizzle, fathom, Sqwert, Milkman and many others have been pining for. THIS is the kinda GM I want. Say what you will about me. But I stay consistent. I've tired of this organization's M.O. I want an AA or Andrew Friedman type.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 12:03 PM) This is getting out of control. Pull your tongue out of his ass already, jeesh. Please. If KW had pulled what he's pulled off you'd be the same way. Every Sox fan would be.
  15. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) You named 4 players, SPROUTING UP EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!! That's 4 in like 2 months. The best position player we've produced in the last decade was Joe Crede.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:58 AM) Trout mysteriously disappeared from your list. Got to stick it out with him. 43 ab's is nothing. He didn't disappear. Like you said, he got sent down. I don't know why. Dumb move if you ask me.
  17. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:47 AM) Posts like this make me seriously question how much of a White Sox fan you are J4L. And it takes a lot for me to say something like that to you, but I have never seen a fan s*** on the organization that he/she is supposed to enjoy as much as you have this season. We were talking about lack of creativity, no? I wasn't even talking about the team in that post. And for the record, I think I've been pretty tame. I was much worse during the offseason.
  18. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Brett Lawrie is the truth. Glad I held him all season in that keeper league of ours... Indeed he is. The best GM in baseball knew what he was doing. Meanwhile, we get to watch Beckham perform worse than Darwin f***ing Barney.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:35 AM) Haha, it just reminds me of those terrible derogatory nicknames you see on message boards. Things like White Sux. Remember the "Houston we have a problem" signs Sox fans were sporting during the World Series? I seriously wanted to hurt myself.
  20. Snakes. Thing is I'm not "scared" of them. There's just something about them. And it doesn't help that I've had about 34743763476234 nightmares of getting swallowed whole by a giant Anaconda.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:16 AM) 20/20 hindsight or 20/10 hindsight? I call it lousy scouting. But it's not like anybody in this organization is held accountable anyway.
  22. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:06 AM) Somewhat. I don't think Kipnis is nearly as touted though. I've been following Jason since his ASU days and I was hoping the Sox would draft him in 2009. The Sox picked Trayce Thompson with their 2nd round pick, which I can't really argue with. Kipnis was popped 2 picks later. Trout/Kipnis or Mitchell/Thompson?
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 10:25 AM) Milledge is the best bat left in the minors with Viciedo clearly not healthy or just mentally exhausted with not getting recalled and then getting hurt again. Kuhn's just too green. Hard to imagine they could be worse off with Lastings as the DH. There would be even less LH hitters, but who the hell cares at this point about balancing the line-up? It would be nice if we could find a Kipnis in the 2nd round once in a while. 1.000+ OPS can't possibly last, but Jesus, it seems we're being taunted this year by Hudson, Gio, all the Chicago kids like Granderson and Kipnis....can anything besides Santos/Sale and Humber go right this season? Kipnis, Ackley, Lawrie, Jennings, etc. Young position talent sprouting up everywhere. We don't do that.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 8, 2011 -> 06:29 PM) Napoli is one of the best offensive catchers in baseball. Francisco is a reliever with a great arm and lousy WHIP. How was that a good deal for the Jays? Am I mistaken? Was Napoli not the best player in that deal by far? Napoli plays part-time between C/1B (a whopping 34 games at C). Do you really believe he's a .1000+ OPS type? The Blue Jays didn't need him at all.
