  1. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:31 AM) I can't see a 5 year deal for any pitcher coming from the Sox. Plus, I'm not certain he's worth $17 million a year. He's most likely got plenty of good years ahead of him. I could see the Sox offering 3/$45 or maybe 4/$60, but that would be a stretch. If they're not going to pay him at least $15 million/year, they'd be better off trading him for a load of prospects. If he hits FA there's no way he signs with us. I say that with confidence. That's why I felt it was imperative to deal him before the deadline. But, of course, because we were still 'in it,' we stood pat. So now what teams (the ones with good farms) are willing to give up a significant package for a year of Danks? Braves? They go about 19 deep in starting pitching. Rangers? Already have Wilson/Holland/Perez from the left side. Rays? Don't need him and couldn't afford him, anyway. Yankees? They'd probably just wait until he became a FA than give up any talent. Maybe the Red Sox? See Yankees.
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:28 AM) Like I said, you won't change my opinion on him at all. This is the same guy who put up a 138 ERA+, 1.22 WHIP at age 23. No doubt in my mind he will improve going into his prime. Still sad to see he has s*** for luck getting wins with this organization (which is what misinformed media outlets see and go by their opinion). Hard to believe a 107 ERA+, 1.31 WHIP, 1.8 WAR is his worst year since his rookie season (hell he had 6 wins with worse numbers in 07). The best GM in baseball (my avy) would've gotten something done with Danks by now. Just like he took care of Romero, who is f***ing sick, and is now one of the top 10 bargains in the sport.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 11:19 AM) I loved him since his days as a prospect in Texas forming the DVD trio (with Volquez and Diamond). Still has alot of potential left and at age 26, his best days are well ahead. Absolutely, but like I've said before, I think highly of him than most here. Though I've said give him Buehrle money (4/56), Weaver is a bit more than that. Danks has essentially been the same pitcher for going on 4 years now. There's really no upside. That's not a bad thing. But Clayton Kershaw he's not.
  4. Danks at $17 million a year? I'd throw up. No way.
  5. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 10:40 AM) Not this year. How many pop ups have dropped in front of Pierre/Rios, plays that were his? He appears to be afraid he's going to get in a collision. lol. GMAB. You're going to blame Ramirez for Pierre's dreadful first couple months and Rios' laziness?
  6. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 22, 2011 -> 10:20 AM) He's been all-average defensively this year as well as his first year. He's been arguably the best defensive SS in baseball the last two years.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 06:27 PM) If Ramirez is what you say he is imagine the return we'd get for him. If we had a suitable replacement in AA/AAA then you'd have some chips to bring to the table. But an infield of Morel/Escobar/Beckham from an offensive standpoint would literally kill me. As I would drink more and most certainly develop cirrhosis of the liver.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) Yes. I believe it's at the average ticket price. You trade Ramirez because his value will never be higher. In so doing that, you free up money to possibly sign Buehrle. And then insert whom? Eduardo Escobar and his .640 OPS at AAA? Other than catcher, there's no other position on the diamond more difficult to fill than SS. I agree with you that what you see is what you get with Ramirez (i.e. he's peaked). But that's fine. He's extremely athletic, durable and features 3 legitimate tools: power-speed-defense. Still a relative bargain contractual wise going forward.
  9. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) Yeah, so if the Braves are ahead after 7 innings, Game Over. More like 6 innings to me.
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:05 PM) With the fact that he hasn't been the same this year in general and the fact that his velocity was down, it seems like everyone has suspected whatever the Rockies "knew". That said, if he's not actually hurt, then the guy with the 98 mph fastball that broke like a slider is still in there somewhere. The velocity dip is obvious. You just get this, "Hey, there's something wrong with this guy. We need to get him the f*** out of here!" kinda vibe.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:13 PM) I see Lillybomb has caught Dunn in homers. Is Lilly a 30 homer guy if he plays as much as Dunn? Seriously doubtful.
  12. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Think Gordon would have a shot at a GG if he were hitting .280? No chance. That's Dustin's award to lose. Plus he's a Red Sock.
  13. Me thinks the Rockies knew something about Ubaldo.
  14. greg, I think you can pretty much stop asking the board what do they think of this team's playoff chances. 3 members currently in here? lol.
  15. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) Unless by player development he means going cheap. No, it means that more and more GMs are realizing how important that component of running an organization is (aside from the old crusty farts that still think it's 1975).
  16. Gordon Beckham you, sir, are a terrible at swinging a baseball bat.
  17. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 06:47 PM) Gordon hitting .145 in his last 10, 5 hits and 9Ks. AAA anyone? Anyone? Bueler? He's got no chance against Ogando.
  18. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) He dove for a ball on the second play of the game, caught the ball, but may have dislocated his shoulder in the process. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 06:37 PM) Running catch coming in. Rolled over on his shoulder. Viciedo batted in the first inning. Ground out. .293 Thanks, guys. Sounds like a fluke. But any injury with CQ is going to be magnified.
  19. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) No, Ricketts is just bad news for Cub fans. Crane Kenney remaining is pretty hard evidence of this. The more I hear and read about this Hendry firing, the more I am convinced that Tom Ricketts is a clown who is in way over his head. He has no idea where this is going. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy heard Boers and Bernstein skewer his ass once too much for his liking and acted on Hendry based on that. That remains to be seen. It's not like I'm cheering the guy on. He identified in detail part of his plan and what type of GM he's looking to acquire. That's a start in my book.
  20. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) Bartolo Colon and her 26 year old sister. Methinks that the one on the right gets lucky more. While the one on the left considers getting lucky running into a double quarterpounder with chese smothered in lard and bacon drippings. You know, after a few shots, the fat one doesn't look as bad. In fact, I'd torpedo her ass. I'd even play this song in the background:
  21. What are you guys talking about? Look at her typical lunch. She mixes in fruits and veggies. That counts for something! Anyway, this woman is obviously very disturbed. At her weight now, death is imminent, anyway. May as well go out happy.
