QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 04:39 PM) Hey I thought of something. Is anybody gay on this board? We could do a poll. Greg775: No. But I have nothing against gays. I would love and accept my child if he/she were gay. To those straight: What kind of women u find the hottest? greg775: I'd go with the look of that girl on the one guy's sig on soxtalk.com; the girl running on the field. Wow. Other than witesoxfan, there's nobody on this board that is gay. I say this with confidence.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 03:54 PM) Quite possibly, but a lot of that might be contingent on whether or not he has control of the clubhouse. I don't know the more "inside" stuff with that team. I'm sure their expectations are higher than ours after winning so many divisions and always having the same results. It's time for them to take the next step and if they don't, I couldn't fault them for going in another direction. How many times were the Twins favored to beat the Yankees? I'm not asking you this. Just a general question. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:40 PM) You may not remember, but the person on this site who was the strongest advocate of trading Rios at the end of May last year was me. I shut up mid-June because I realized we weren't going to be selling anyone, but it's not the first time I've written this. Kudos to you. I remember Ace and Dick Allen being staunch advocates in selling high on Rios. Then Mackowiak, Erstad, Terrerro and Wise images popped into my head and I said f*** that. But in hindsight, yeah, we should've pounced.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Well, some people can be downright rude in asking people to quiet their kids. No excuse for that, either. So if you're at a nice restaurant or a movie theater trying to enjoy a nice dinner or movie and multiple whiny ass 2-3 year olds are going apes*** for no reason because that's what they do wouldn't piss you off? And management is not supposed to impose when they see their paying customers are getting annoyed by said whining/crying? What's rude? "tell your kid to shut the f*** up." Nobody does that. But you have to see their point of view.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:41 PM) You make a good point about the nature of the MLB playoffs and I agree that 90% of the battle is making the playoffs. That being said, there is one major difference with Gardenhire. Cox & Scioscia have won WS, Gardy hasn't even made it there. Gardy has won one series out of 7. In their last 5 LDS flameouts, the Twins have gone 2-15(.118) . Cox ended his career with 5 straight LDS losses, but they still went 8-15 (.348) in those games. I know only the series result matters, but the Twins haven't even been competing. Gardy's career playoff record is 6-21 (.222) Cox is 67-69 (.493). Scioscia is 21-24 (.467) At some point, you have to start winning some games in the playoffs, and I do realize the playoffs can be a crapshoot, but still. I agree. It's a catch-22 in baseball. In the NFL, you can win a SB and get fired two years later if you suck. A World Series title can guarantee you another 5 years at the minimum. No matter what you do. One World Series title or 5 trips to the playoffs in 6 years? Obviously, most would take the World Series title if it's guaranteed. But that certainly doesn't mean the manager who won the World Series is better than the manager that got to the postseason 5 years in a 6 year stretch. -
I know movie theaters that ban kids below a certain age. Nothing wrong with this. If you have to bring your kids with you everywhere you go, then you know what, you gotta stay your ass home or hire a sitter. Otherwise, don't have kids.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:00 PM) At some level...that 25-5 run last year was sort of a shame...because after the month of May that Rios had last year, June/July was probably a time when he could not only have been traded but moved for a decent return as well. This surprises me coming from you. But I totally agree.

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:20 PM) Maybe people here don't really know what it's like on their side of the fence. They believe Mauer is a bad contract. Gardy can't win in the post season, ect. I think their biggest fans are Hawk and Ozzie. I guess you have to be fan of a time that makes the post season every year and know they aren't going to win the whole thing. Last year was the first time I didn't watch the Colts do another one and done. I knew they weren't good enough and got there being in a bad division. I think fans get desensitized when their team can only win divisions. If the Twins win the division this year, I don't think their fans will be that excited. After their one and done they'll want a new GM, new manager and Mauer traded. Should the Braves have fired Bobby Cox after so many playoff flameouts? How about Scocia (I probably spelled that wrong)? I think there's something to be said about consistently getting to October every year. In the NBA, making the playoffs is nowhere near as significant unless you're a top 4 seed. In the NFL, you see 9-7 teams make the playoffs all the time. In baseball, if you can survive a 162 game marathon, 9.5 times out of 10, you were deserving. To do that year after year, yeah, I'd say you're doing something right. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) So the Indians are nearly tied with the Rays despite getting nothing from the guy who should have been their best hitter? Well, that sounds exactly like your argument for why Maddon gets so much credit for the Rays being good despite losing Longoria. Longoria was just part of my argument. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:13 PM) The Indians have actually played BOS/NYY 13 times (7-6), while the Rays have only played them 10 times (5-5). You could make a solid argument that the Blue Jays are better than any team in our division. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) How many games has Grady Sizemore missed? Or Shin-Soo Choo? And how many players did they lose the last few years? What have the Indians lost of significance the last couple years? You're not trying to go back to Cliff Lee, are you? When they sucked anyway. The Rays lost multiple key components from a 95 win team. There's no comparison. Sizemore has been a gingerbread man for going on three years now. Choo hasn't hit all year. They've taken advantage of a weak division. Highlighted by the massive busts that have been the White Sox. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) We are 3-0 against Boston this year, and 13 wins out of the last 18. The Yankees we have split this year. I deleted that post for a reason. As I realized Hurt's post had nothing to do with the White Sox. lol. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:58 PM) They have nearly identical records and one team is substantially better than they were last year or were expected to be this year, while the other team is worse than they were last year and about where they were expected to be this year. So the Rays have a better record than the Indians in a by far better division, lost 57 free agents, have been without their super star 3B for 35 games, and Acta is more deserving? If you look at it in a vacuum, yes, Acta is more deserving because they're closer to first place. But that's corny. And that gives me more reason to hate on the Sox. If they were playing at 85% of what I believe to be their optimal potential, we wouldn't even be debating this. As we'd be in first by at least 6 games or so. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:44 PM) The Tigers don't need offense...they need starting pitching. This is true. But when you can legitimately argue that Edwin Jackson is the best starter on the market as of right now, then you have to come to the conclusion that the pitching might not be out there to get. So to compensate, add to the offense. -

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) MOTY clearly not a given, and likely won't be decided until Sept. I'm guessing Acta would win if writers were to vote at this point in the season. Hurdle in NL. By what criteria is Acta more deserving than Maddon outside of his team is closer to first place in a clearly inferior division? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) The White Sox are closer to the AL Central lead than the Rays are to the AL East lead. Hence the if you choose to ignore the quality of the divisions. We'd be in full sell mode right now if we were in the AL east. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:47 PM) Does Maddon deserve credit for their new re-made bullpen or does the GM? And it's not like they are lacking for talent and Maddon is doing it with bums. Everyone hypes up their young talent, aren't they just producing at the level everyone predicted? Then give Friedman the GM of the year as well. Yes, the Rays have a ton of young talent in their minors. But for '11, this was supposed to be a 'down' year. And a top 5 player in the league, Longoria, has missed almost half the season. They were only 2 or 3 games out a couple weeks ago before a slow finish to the first half. Could you imagine if they could afford to take on payroll? Maddon is an excellent manager that I pay close attention to. But like I said, this is for right now. If the Rays fall off the continent in the second half then he's probably not as deserving. I just really admire the job he's done to this point. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) But...they're in third. Right where they were expected to be. I know. But it was supposed to be a tug-of-war between the Yankees and Red Sox from day one. The Rays weren't even supposed to be in the picture. I'll just say that if the Rays finish with a better record than the Indians and/or within five games of the playoffs then Maddon wins it. If you want to ignore the difference between the divisions, something I refuse to do, then you could go with whatever crummy AL central team wins. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) If we trade Vicedo (who btw, is not that undisciplined) for Beltran than Im done with the Sox, as much as it would pain me to be that way (atleast until KW is gone). Ditto. It'd be either the Braves, Nationals or Royals for me.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:25 PM) sounds like Beltran could be on the move to DET Interesting. Their system is pretty barren aside from Jacob Turner. Though, obviously, Beltran would be a rental. Me thinks it's time to reopen trade winds. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:17 PM) It's really a fantastic trade for Milwaukee as long as they don't let his option kick in. They're going to lose Fielder because of their current financial situation. They're not about to pay K-rod $17+ million next year. He won't reach the required games finished unless Axford's arm is amputated at some point between now and October. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) Maybe. The majority of sportswriters usually go for the "surprise" team that nobody expected to be in it at all. With the Rays a contender in every season since 2008, they're probably a victim of their own success here. And maybe there's this idea that their minor league system has been so productive that they can just plug in new pieces and automatically be successful...like the Twins seemingly do. I forgot to add Garza. And I challenge you to find any major publication that had the Rays finishing any better than a distant third going into the season. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 11:21 AM) So my team has sucked this year... I'm pretty much holding try outs now. I figure I have no chance at being in the money, so I am slowly replacing guys with prospects to give me the chance to see who to keep for next year. The big one I am trying to decide whether to pop on or not is Buster Posey. I have Matt Wieters and Carlos Santana on the roster now, but I am thinking about picking up Buster and stashing him on the DL eventually. Do people think he will be a top 5 round pick next year coming back from that injury? How many keepers do you get? I'm assuming one catcher? Honestly, I'd wait until towards the end of the year. Santana has been a disappointment so far. But his BB rate is easily the best among catchers. His .363 OBP is well above average for a catcher as well (I believe only McCann's is better). His BABIP is only .251. Well below league average. So he's been very unlucky. In other words, he's going to hit. Wieters has been showing signs. Thing with him is his defense is so good that you know he's going to play everyday, independent of his offense. But the offensive upside is still tremendous. Who the hell knows what Posey will be like when the season rolls around next year. Wait and see how the first two finish the season. If somebody scoops Posey up before then, so be it. You'll still have two young stud catchers to choose from. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) It would still be a toss-up to me between Gardenhire and Acta. Depends on how close the Indians finished to the Twins. If you go back to the expectations game, Minnesota was predicted to finish first by the majority of prognosticators, yes? Not unlike Shapiro beating out KW for GM/Executive of the Year for the 2005 season. As of right now, the AL manager of the year is Joe Maddon. And it's not even up for discussion. They lost Crawford, Pena, their entire bullpen, Longoria missed like 35 games...and they're right in the thick of things in that monster of a division. -
QUOTE (jenksfart @ Jul 12, 2011 -> 01:08 PM) I had an aunt who had sexual relations with her horse. Now I know people will think I'm joking and no I am not trying to make a connection here. I just want to know if you would accept her too? Because it was very hard for my parents, particularly my mom, because that was her older sister. I'm indifferent because I only have memories of my aunt from when I was 4 years old before she passed. You just don't care about issues when you are young. :lolhitting And with that, i'm outta here for now.
