  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) Toss up He's been a different player the last 6 weeks. If he could maintain a .725/.750-ish OPS with his glove and speed, wow. At 24 and dirt cheap, that's tremendous value for the Royals.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) No, cause we already have Alexei. My bad. I didn't mention in this hypothetical that we don't have Ramirez.
  3. Hey, fathom, would you trade Beckham for Escobar? I would.
  4. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:40 PM) THAT MAN IS A f***ING ALL STAR Like I said, wrong position. Seems like every 1B in the game is having a great year.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:37 PM) Could you imagine if he wasn't pitching with intensity how bad he'd be? lol
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:27 PM) You might if you're just one hitter away and you feel you have 3 even better arms in the minors. It all depends on how they feel internally about Beachy's top ceiling. Obviously last year, Hudson wouldn't have been traded if Cooper/KW felt Hudson would be able to be a #1-2 starter for the White Sox. And they'd have Quentin for at least 1 1/3rd seasons, not unlike the Jackson trade. If you look at the stats for Heyward and Schafer, they're way down. I just don't see it. Beachy, though it's only been 11 starts, looks the part to me. His peripheral stats are outstanding. The Braves don't operate as the White Sox do. The Braves are in a similar situation as we are, at least offensively. They just need guys like Uggla and Heyward to do what they do. CQ is not going to put them over the top against Philly and their rotation from hell. I could actually see them going after a guy like Matt Kemp. They certainly have the assets.
  7. Where the hell did Freddie Freeman come from? This guy's on flame broil. So in the last two years the Braves system has produced Freeman, Heyward, Hanson, Beachy, Venters and Kimbrel. With Teheran, Delgado, Minor and Vizcaino all knocking at the door. Yeah, they pretty much know what they're doing in the scouting/drafting/developing department.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:25 PM) Paulino has dynamite stuff, we just can't help him out. Morel swinging at two pitches at his shoulders is not wise. I'm drawing a total blank. What the hell did the Royals give up to get him? Paulino has always been one of those 'saber' studs who's standard numbers always suck.
  9. It's telling the lack of 'enthusiasm' over this guy. Nobody cared when he signed. Nobody really cares that he's debuting tonight. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
  10. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) I voted about 30 times. Is that par for the course? That's weak sauce compared to '05 and '06 for many. No hyperbole here. I swear I voted for Pods at least 1000 times. And that's a conservative estimate.
  11. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 5, 2011 -> 06:18 PM) When we made that trade -- Rowand for Thome -- I cringed like I do when ever Kenny does anything. Philly needed to dump Thome, because they had Ryan Howard and his minimum contract waiting in the wings. Thome had a big contract and clearly was not going to play ahead of Howard. The Philly GM needed someone to step up and do him a favor and take Thome off his hands. Kenny appears and gives up his CF in the process. What a nice guy, Kenny, to help Philly GM like that. Nothing against Thome, but we could have gotten him a lot cheaper/ Thome >>> Rowand It's not even close. Outside of '07, Rowand has been mediocre to bad. The Young trade is the one you're thinking. KW definitely got greedy there.
  12. Braves won't do this. I know they're overflowing with pitching, majors and minors, but they're not parting with a cost/team controlled gem for a defensively-challenged (though he's been better this year; hard to be worse), injury-prone guy who's a year away from FA. Beachy is probably the NL ROY front-runner if not for his DL stint.
  13. 4th of July. I'm drunk. sox won. Let's celebrate.
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 04:42 PM) As I go to more baseball games this year (yesterday, Pirates at Nats) and watch others on TV I'm struck by the number of mediocre hitters when they show stats across the screen. Sure you'll occasionally see a guy hitting .297 or .313 but that seems to be rare... lineups are full of guys hitting .228 and s***. Is it just me? It's not you. Offense is down everywhere outside of 1B it seems. This sucks to me. I'd rather guys start juicing again. I love 10-8 slugfests. 1-0, 2-1 games bore the s*** out of me.
  15. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Speaking of young franchise players who are or are not trending upwards in that game, I didn't realize Ryan Zimmerman was having such a crappy season. He was on the DL for quite some time. He's only played in 27 games (121 PAs). This most definitely has not been a good year for 3B. Along with Zimmerman, as I'm sure you know, Longoria and Wright have also spent a considerable amount of time on the DL. All three are elite when healthy.
  16. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) I got to see him play yesterday in Washington... that guy's pretty awesome. He continues to trend upward every season (I'm calling a certain White Sox 2B out here). I hope the Pirates get really good again so we get to see more of this elite talent without having to be an Extra Innings subscriber.
  17. I voted for PK about 10 times and got bored. I've just lost my enthusiasm when it comes to the final vote. I spent hours voting for Pods and AJ in '05 and '06. It was like a mission of mine. Oh well.
  18. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) ROYALS (34-50, 11-26 away) Maier - LF .311 Cabrera - CF .283 Butler - DH .298 Francoeur - RF .262 Hosmer - 1B .274 Pena - C .248 Moustakas - 3B .290 Escobar - SS .253 Getz - 2B .263 Francis - LHP (3-9, 4.79 ERA) SOX (42-43, 19-20 home) Lillibridge - LF .257 Morel - 3B .253 Dunn - DH .165 Konerko - 1B .317 Quentin - RF .253 Ramirez - SS .275 Rios - CF .218 Castro - C .222 Beckham - 2B .241 Buehrle - LHP (6-5, 3.65 ERA) Why the hell is Dunn in the lineup batting 3rd against a LHP?! Are you implying that it's illogical that a guy who's sporting a .206 OPS with 25 Ks in 52 at bats against lefties probably shouldn't be hitting third against *clears throat* a lefty?
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 02:11 PM) Holy crap K.C. can hit. Up and down that lineup there are actual hitters numbers that Sox fans can only dream of. They score enough runs (by 2011 standards, anyway). But they can't get anybody out. That was to be expected. Their stud position players are way ahead of their pitching 'spects aside from Crow at this point.
  20. PK just plays the wrong position. Simple as that. But he can still get in. Biggest snub by far was Andrew McCutchen. There's absolutely no excuse for his omission.
  21. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jul 4, 2011 -> 11:38 AM) I fundamentally disagree with this mentality, sorry. Of course, one guy can't plug 4-5 black holes in a lineup, but incrementally, one player CAN make the difference between a few close losses and a few close wins. This division figures to be CLOSE, and those few games may well make the difference. This I agree with.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 10:43 PM) Great post. I truly believe we'd have a shot at least splitting with Minnie if only we'd bring up Dayan and DeAza. Please do something, White Sox before our zombie offense gets killed by the Central Div. in the next 19 games. No way. He has no business on a major league roster. At least not one that has playoff aspirations.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 3, 2011 -> 10:13 PM) Viciedo will hit for a much higher average. He hits too many line drives not to. I think you're right. I just think (well at least me, anyway), that too much is going to be expected of him from the get go. He'd be an obvious upgrade over bums like Pierre and Dunn. But this offense has too many liabilities for one man to override.
