  1. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 09:52 AM) You just said that would be a huge haul on the last page...lol. I was talking about them being part of the deal, not just those two. Romine would obviously be in it as well as Betances. How am I suppose to assume that's what you meant when all you mention is Joba and Nova? C'mon saberboy. lol.
  2. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) This is the largest margin of victory for the Bulls since....? This is actually a really good question. You would obviously think to look back at the dynasty years. But I really can't recall them winning a game by 45+ points. And back in those days I used to record the games. I do remember a game during the 72-win season in which they scored the first 20 points of that game against the Hornets. But they only won by 35 or so. Didn't take long. They waxed the Antoine Carr, Bill Wennington led Kings by 47 back in 1991. That is one horrific looking roster. http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxsco...9102220CHI.html
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) If we can get Joba and Nova back for Danks, I'd be all for that trade. And that would effectively end my time as a Sox fan. That would be a terrible swap.
  4. QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) I don't think that they are going to be in contention for a dixision title this year either, but they could be in 2012 if their talent developes rapidly. I do believe that they are going to be enough of a pest though to cause other teams in the division some problems, so they could very well have a say in who does win the division. I don't think that you can take the Royals lightly any longer. I like the way that they are building that team. Wouldn't worry about them at all for '11. Have you seen their projected rotation? It was bad with Greinke. Unless at least 5 or 6 guys have nutzoid like years, they're going to lose 95-100 games. All next year for them is going to be about development. Majors and minors. And yeah, I've been complimentary of what the franchise has built (farm wise, obviously) since Moore took over. Yes, the high draft position helps a lot. But not all these guys that EVERYBODY have been gushing over were first-round picks. So that means your scouts are getting the job done. I've been a hardcore prospect follower for about 6 years and I've never seen a universal consensus by all measures that not only do they have the best system in baseball, but maybe the best system ever. But again, gonna take a 2-3 years. Unless guys like Hosmer, Moustakas and Montgomery can't step in right away and have Heyward, Stanton and Strasburg like impacts. In which yes, will have a small problem.
  5. QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 08:21 AM) You may be right, but I have a hard time believeing that K.W. will deal an established starter if he is really all in this season. Pitchers are always 1 pitch away from being done and for that reason you can never have too much pitching. All depends on what the Yankees would be willing to give up.
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:27 AM) The thing about Montero is that I don't think any deal around Montero could improve the 2011 team. If it was Montero +, then that extra player would be some lower level minors guy I would assume. I'd rather take the lesser of their catching prospects if it meant we were to add to our 2011 club (Joba and Nova). It's going to be really interesting to see what happens with Pettite. He's figuratively got the Yankees by their collective nuts right now. I just can't see them going into '11 with two of Nova, Mitre or Brackman. Not with their expectations, payroll, ect. Cashman is doing the correct thing in acting all cool, calm and collected. But they put all their eggs in the Lee basket and now they're kinda f***ed. I think if Pettite retires they're going to make a move. And you best believe KW will be in the picture. Maybe not Danks. But Jackson or Floyd for sure.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 03:15 AM) Danks is also going to be pricey, and I am no so sure we will be able to retain him. Every piece coming back (Joba, Romine, Nova, and Betances) is something this team needs. Catching prospect? Check. Solid reliever? Check. Decent 5th start to fill in before Peavy comes back? Check. And then you add in Betances who is a huge 22-year-old righty who tops out at 98MPH with a plus-plus fastball, with a plus-curveball, and a good-enough change-up. At 2 levels last year, he had 108 Ks to 22 BB (4.91 K/BB) in 85 IP. That's an 11.4 K/9 and a 2.3 BB/9 with a 0.88 WHIP. Those are pretty awesome numbers for a 22-year-old. You would obviously shoot for Montero. But if said package was proposed I don't know how you don't run with it. But this is pretty meaningless. It was a random idea by a random fan on a message board.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 22, 2010 -> 01:54 AM) I would do that trade in a HEARTBEAT. I'd like to know the response by other Yankee fans to that guy's proposal. I'm assuming it wasn't very warm. That'd be an insane haul for Danks. But that's exactly what a good GM (in general) should shoot for when (hypothetically speaking) dangling a proven 25-year old SP under control for two more years.
  9. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) I am actually VERY afraid of the Royals. Not really this coming year, but soon. People are saying that the Royals farm system is the best farm system that they've ever seen. We could soon have our very own version of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Central, and that worries the s*** outta me. Can't say "very" afraid until the young talent is up and producing. But I'm definitely, I guess, intrigued at what they could potentially do if even half of these guys pan out. But that won't be something to worry about for a couple years, at least.
  10. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) I'd be pissed if I was a Royals fan right now. They got no impact talent. Only guys who might be okay every day players for a Cy Young talent pitcher who the Royals didn't have to trade right now. Define "impact" player? Did they get a Jason Heyward or Stephen Strasburg back? No. And they weren't going to. But they did get plus speed AND defense at the two most important defensive positions on the field. They also got two premium powers arms, one who projects to be an elite set-up man (could possibly start) in the mold of a Daniel Bard and the other pretty much dominated A ball as a 20-year old and projects as a #2/#3 starter. Greinke didn't want to be in KC anymore. And who could blame him. The Royals aren't winning jack s*** in '11 or '12. Then Greinke walks and all you're left with is two picks. Then there's rumblings about Greinke not being motivated last year? Do you really wanna deal with that the next two years for a team not in contention? I think the Royals did fabulous considering the circumstances.
  11. QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) I think he's just giving me a hard time cause I can be overly SABR at times. Compared to chw42? I don't think so. I once asked him for his phone number and he said wOBA .815-456 and gave me a Win Probability added of 1.43 of guessing the other 4 numbers.
  12. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Blake Griffin is silly. God I hope he's in the dunk contest. I haven't watched one in about 4 years and haven't cared to. I'd clear my schedule to catch that show.
  13. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) Well, that's just terrible. You realize he meant wins above replacement, right?
  14. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 03:01 AM) This is really becoming another golden age of the NBA. There is more talent in the league right now then there has been in a real long time. I still wish there were more dominant centers like in the 90's, but other than that, yeah, the talent is insane. I've watched more Clippers/Warriors highlights in the last month and half than I probably have in the last 10 years. There's going to be a lot of deserving players miss the all-star team this year. Can you imagine one or more of Love, Griffin, Westbrook or Ellis not making the team? And of course with moron fans voting, they'll be at least 1 starter from each conference that has no business starting.
  15. QUOTE (balfanman @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 09:57 AM) I really am not familiar with these prospects at all, but Yankee prospects do tend to be more overhyped than most. This deal strikes me as maybe a fair deal, I don't know, but in this case we should not settle for a fair deal. The Yankees are the team that is in need here, more so than the Sox. If we are going to help another team out of a fairly deperate situation, especially a team that could wind up being a playoff opponent, then we should be in the drivers seat and make them overpay for a need. Balta may be right, they may not be too desperate until the season starts and they see what they have. In the A.L. East however, they could very easily lose the playoffs with a bad April. I think that they know that and would rather strike sooner than later. JMHO Cashman seems pretty content on letting the season play out and see where they're at in July. I don't expect a move by them to be honest.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) A Yankees fan from another forum brought up a possible deal for Edwin Jackson. Sox would get: David Robertson, Manny Banuelos, PTBNL That's one pretty good pitching prospect, a good bullpen arm, and $8.75 million of salary relief. Might not make a whole ton of sense for our rotation, but in terms of the entire team, it might not be the worst thing. If Peavy weren't such a giant ? I'd be all for this.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 07:37 AM) And in response, I can say the exact same thing about every NL team. "If Ryan Howard isn't Ryan Howard, and Utley can't stay healthy, the Phillies offense will be pretty mediocre". I don't get what you're not understanding. Yes, I know any team will underperform offensively if their main guys struggle. But some teams have more margin for error than others. Weeks McGehee Braun Fielder Hart Gomez Betancourt Nieves/Kottaras Pitcher Carlos Gomez, as Sox fans know well, is a terrible offensive player. A career slashline of .246/.293/.349/.655 over 1420 career PAs. Betancourt, as EVERYBODY knows, is one of the worst players in the game. A career slashline of .272/.296/.393/.689. Catcher is obviously the most forgiving offensive position on the field. But going by the numbers, neither Nieves or Kottaras offers a thing offensively. So right there you're talking a minimum of 3 guys that project to be everyday players sporting sub-700 OPSs. Then you've got the pitcher and that's going to put A LOT of pressure on their top 5. Weeks and Hart had career years and McGehee came out of nowhere. They need those three guys to be every bit as good next year. Like no regression at all.
  18. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) i wish i could have seen Jordan4life holding his Jimmy Johns sandwich, thinking about taking his first bite. I bet he was thinking "damn i wish i got White Castle" Man oh man those sandwiches were good. Took me a while, but I finished both. Then shortly after finishing I proceeded to take a 33 minute dump. But I had my ESPN the Mag.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) In that case, then no NL team would be expected to contend. All I meant was they need Weeks, Hart and McGehee to have repeat years in 2011 and for Braun and Fielder to be Braun and Fielder or their lineup could be pretty mediocre. All in all I expect them to score plenty of runs.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) Way too much time left I was going to say not when Joe Webb is your QB. But god damnit. They just scored.
  21. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 09:19 PM) I few of my friends in NY are saying the Yanks are looking at Floyd. They also said that Cashman called Kenny and he said, everyone but Floyd and Jackson are off limits. Anybody hear anything about this. I found this blog but that's it. Blog I have. They've got multiple threads over at nyyfans.com. I'd be open to dealing either for the right package.
  22. Your 2010 NFC North champion Chicago Bears!
  23. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 07:25 PM) This is the NL though. How many teams have better 7-8 hitters than that? I don't know. I'm just saying. You're talking 3 automatic outs for a team that's expected to contend. So there's like no margin for error from the rest of the lineup.
  24. Got my sammiches! Damn these are huge. Like the Mandingo of sammiches.
  25. I will say the Brewers have no margin for error from the top 6 in their lineup. Because right now you're looking at a 7-8-9 of Gomez, Betancourt and the pitcher. That will definitely be the "go take a s***" inning when those three come up.
