  1. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 6, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) Not many pitchers are worth $100M per year. And it won't be packed till they're winning. A lot of casual Cubs fans I know HATED that deal and told me they're done with prospects and want to just win a couple games. The more baseball fanatic ones get excited, but the casual ticket buying fan couldn't give a f*** until they're at least in playoff hunts. Not sure about this. I mean, every Cubs site I've been on the fans are acting like Bulls fans when they beat the Heat in January. They're pretty damn stoked from what I've seen.
  2. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 11:15 PM) There is way too much smoke about the Cubs being out of cash for there not to be a fire. Yet they were one of the finalists for Tanaka. Sox fans should know better. How many times did KW practically file for bankruptcy during his GM tenure?
  3. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 08:03 PM) i guess cub fans forget easily, all the failed prospects in this town lol sure its fine to be excited but they act like theyre all going to pan out. my faveorite is when they do: future lineup c-shwarber 1b-rizzo 2b-castro 3b-russell ss-baez lf-bryant cf-almora rf-soler theyre not all going to pan out(or at the very least, not to what everyone expects them to be) and some we be traded. Sports fans (me included) are some of the dumbest entities to walk the earth. You think Theo/Jed has ALL of these guys making the big league club and dominating? You think Theo/Jed don't know their pitching inventory is low? They've completed the first part of their mission. They've stockpiled a bevy of athletic, versatile, blue-chippers aging from 20-22. They've just about guaranteed themselves another top 5 pick in next year's draft aka another legit asset. As far as positions and who stays and who gets traded, that will all work itself out over the next 12-18 months. But make no mistake about it, the Cubs are coming. And they're coming soon. And I don't want to hear s*** about the Pirates and Royals. When it's time to spend (the Cubs), they will.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 5, 2014 -> 06:55 AM) It is funny when the Sox acquire a prospect rated in the 70-95 range it is awesome, but when the Cubs get a top 15 guy, it is just dumb. Theo is a dope, but could you imagine what a genius Hahn would be if he had 3 of the top 15 and 6 of the top 41 in the Sox minor league system? Samardz has never finished a season as a starter with an ERA lower than 3.81. He is 29. He wants more than $100 million. This. Hating on the Cubs just because they're the Cubs is so 2004ish. I love what they're doing right now.
  5. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 4, 2014 -> 06:30 PM) Hawes to the Clippers 4/23....Pretty good grab by them. That's it? That's a pretty sweet deal for the Clips. Legit stretch 5 who can rebound, pass some and is not awful defensively. Clippers had nothing behind Blake/Jordan last year. Nice upgrade.
  6. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 3, 2014 -> 05:54 PM) Of course we'd be disappointed, but I won't be mad at the FO. They seemingly have put forth a great effort, so if he stays in NY I'll be saying f*** him and NOT f*** this FO. They can't force these things to happen. Plus he's not THAT great anyway. The last time Melo had a legit coach and was surrounded with a legit supporting cast, he took the best of the Kobe/Gasol/Odom/Bynum juggernaut 6 tough games in the west finals. He hasn't had that since.
  7. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:57 PM) I'm basing this off of the stories of coaches getting players to buy into less minutes this offseason, and the premium teams are paying for shooting this offseason. It may not be a new era, but it is what is driving the offseason. Are you really going to try and act like previous finals successes don't influence what teams do for the next year? Do you remember everyone needing to get small? The Heat could get away with being small because they have a transcendent player in LeBron. No team has ever won a title while being that undersized. The '11 Mavs probably had more shooters, or at least just as many, as the '14 Spurs. Point is shooting has been critical for years and teams have been paying for it before this offseason.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 2, 2014 -> 05:31 PM) There are two trends this offseason post Spurs: - More rest for veterans - shooting shooting shooting Last year taj would double up as C often. I think they'd like lineup versatility of Pau-Noah and Pau Gibson, also Pau/Mirotic lol. Post Spurs? Would you guys stop. More rest for veterans? Pop has been managing minutes for the big three since before anybody knew who Justin Bieber was. Last year was nothing new. Shooting? Floor spacing has been critical for at least half a decade now as defensive schemes have gotten better. This is not a new era of basketball now because the Spurs beat the evil Heat.
  9. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 11:36 PM) http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2...bucks/11673645/ ahhh. i see. yeah, that's weird. I mean I like how kid recovered after the bad start. But this is strange.
  10. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 11:28 PM) What the hell is Jason Kidd on? Did someone tell him he was a good coach last year? 6 seed in the East was not a real accomplishment. ???
  11. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 08:50 PM) "Emulating" the Spurs isn't exactly any easier. How many times are you going to draft a top-10 player of All-Time that plays for 17 years with an extremely limited injury history and acquire 3 more All-Star caliber players while he's on the team? Oh, and get them to take reduced salaries so you can still add other guys to the roster. When the Spurs do it, it's cool and selfless. When the Heat do it, it's evil collusion. #ModerndayMeatHeadidiots
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) Lol J4L. You sound as salty as f*ck. The Heat getting murked got you that down? I don't really feel like getting into it with you (watching Captain Phillips) but I do recall me and you having a difference of opinion between which franchise was more worthy of emulating, you said the Heat and I said San Antonio. SA has beaten the GOAT (lol) LeBron 2 outta 3, really should be 3 outta 3 though... BTW you might want to hand in your Bulls fan card already. That Heat bandwagon is a little lighter nowadays so just go full out, bro. And let's just totally ignore the Bulls got past Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning and Shaq in the East. lies up and down this post. I never said the Heat should be emulated. What they pulled off in '10 is historic and unprecedented and can't be emulated anyway. I'm salty? Are you serious? The Heat got smacked. End of story. Once again, I never said LeBron is the GOAT. Jordan is 1-3 against Isaiah Thomas. So, like, I don't get it. The 2002/2003 Nets were a bi-product of a weak eastern conference. If the Heat go 0/4, you'd have a point.
  13. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 07:26 PM) Meh, Wade is s*** and Bosh has regressed with LeBron. Even if they get Lowry, that doesn't change the dynamic all that much. San Antonio has shown us the importance of depth. I don't see how they're gonna upgrade their biggest weaknesses, their lack of a quality big and a decent bench. San Antonio is basically intact, they are a much bigger threat to repeat than the Heat to be top dog again. Also, let's be honest, San Antonio should've won 2 years ago and this year they blew Miami out. The Heat aren't that good once you get past LeBron, they wouldn't have had four straight NBA Finals if the East wasn't total garbage. Oh my goodness. For three years you and other try-hard Bulls fans have told me to stop stroking the Heat and now you've got your mouths wrapped around the Spurs collective dicks. There's no new Spurs blueprint every team must try and emulate now. There's no new "importance of depth" just because the Spurs won. Depth has always been important (less so if you have Shaq and Kobe, etc). And considering the Spurs have never repeat once, I wouldn't be so quick to say they are a much bigger threat to do anything other than be right at the top of the west standings once again. And you saying the Heat only made the finals 4 times in a row because the east is garbage is like me saying the Bulls only won 6 rings because they never saw a C in the finals better than Greg Ostrertag.
  14. Even Haslem opted out. He doesn't make millions off the court like the others. I don't think this is all happening for a rolepleyer upgrade.
  15. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jun 28, 2014 -> 02:48 PM) Welp Bosh and Wade have both opted out.... Something VERY BAD is about to happen soon.
  16. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) You also were talking up Beasley and Oden when the Heat got them so... lol. i said there was potential. beasley was killin' the first two months and then he didn't play anymore. Oden is Oden. Still worth the risk for that pay.
  17. At the risk of 2k5 calling me a bandwagoner, Heat got themselves a baller.
  18. QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:55 PM) Seeing sox badger and j4l hate the pick makes me think bulls really pulled a coup. My team predictions suck. I'm much better with individual players. even the paul george/pippen comp doesn't look bad when you compare them at the same age.
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:30 PM) Welcome back, sir. ty. you saw my post in the other thread, correct? j4l hides from nobody. You were right and I was epically wrong.
  20. No matter what happens, the dunk contests for the next couple years should be sick. Assuming Wiggins, Gordon and Lavine participate.
  21. Anyway, if all goes well, the east should be MUCH better in 2-3 years. And I wish I could understand hockey. The Bulls are so lame they got me wanting to jump on the Blackhawks wagon. They appear to know what they're doing.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 26, 2014 -> 08:10 PM) We have Kirk for another year, right? As for McDermott - 55% from the floor and 46% from three while averaging 21.7 points per game. He never shot lower than 52.5% overall or 40.5% from three in any single season. As the primary scorer. As the primary guy defenses attacked. Hood shot 46% overall and 42% from three. On a Duke team where he was the 2nd or 3rd option. edit: and they're the same size. why do you think Hood is a 2/3? Yeah, Adam Morrison was pretty good, too. How did that work out? For the first time ever I agree with Badger. Awful trade. But at least Chicago has another grindy white guy to worship.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Except I feel like J4L will own up to it instead of bailing. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 15, 2014 -> 09:59 PM) He will, he hasn't ran away when he's been wrong before. He hasn't been on here since the finals started though, weird. Thank you. At least I can count on you two. I been here 11 years and some think I would run because of a prediction (in which I lost nothing) went HORRIBLY wrong? I think not. Family issues (father) came up the tuesday before game 1. Funny how things like basketball and message boards and life in general just doesn't mean a whole lot when that happens. Anyways, yes, this turned out to be my worst prediction yet. And I don't care. The Spurs got in dat ass and left no doubt who the best team was in '14. My basketball life doesn't revolve around what the Heat do or don't do. Heat lost, great. I hope y'all got to ejaculate. Now what are the Bulls gonna do? '98 was so long ago that I can't remember anything from it without youtubing it.
  24. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 11:22 AM) I hate the Heat, hated them since Riley and Zo. I don't hate LeBron, dude is awesome, best player of his era, he's just not on MJ's level. In 5-6 years we'll be laughing at how you thought he was better than MJ. Remember when some people thought Kobe would surpass MJ? That crowd disappeared. Time has a way of placing players in their rightful place when being a prisoner of the moment fades. This will be just as funny as your Knicks = title contenders prediction. One more thing, stop acting like the Spurs didn't have a shot last year. They did have a shot. LeBron was inconsistent up until he went HAM at the end of game 6. Wade was banged up and it showed. Bosh was inconsistent. Danny Green hit 4373472373 3's in the first 5 games. Leonard had a breakout series. Duncan went vintage 2004 the last two games. And they still lost. The Big three haven't played this well together at the same time since 2011, odd as that is. The Pacers now know they were lucky and fortunate to even go 7 games last year. And before you say, "haha, the pacers suck, the east sucks", keep in mind a healthy, locked in Heat smoked the most talented team in nba history two years ago without homecourt. They are again healthy and locked in. 2014 Spurs - may I introduce you to Karl Malone and the 1998 Jazz.
  25. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 1, 2014 -> 07:51 AM) I'm in Spurs country and they are about the only Texas team that has replaced my boyhood team. From a Spurs fan, Heat in 5. The Spurs are Utah circa 1998. The Heat have been waiting around for this moment. This. Those picking the Spurs are only doing so because they either hate the Heat or hate that LeBron is closing in on their hero. I haven't heard/read anything from the pro-Spurs crowd other than, "haha, the east sucks" and "homecourt, dude!". I've seen this movie before. Like Vogul said, LeBron is the Jordan of this era and the Heat are the Bulls of this era. Heat in 5.
