For the Love of Chase Blackwood
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 11:07 PM) Gotcha. That was kind of a joke towards the swear filter, but good luck to the future Mr. & Mrs. Blackwood and I hope to see Chase in a White Sox jersey in the near future. I don't. That would mean something terrible has happened to the organization.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 07:22 PM) Red Sox firing on all cylinders, 12 runs still in the third inning. Weren't they supposed to have all sorts of trouble scoring runs this year? Also worth noting that the top 3 run scoring teams in baseball are the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays (not to mention the Blue Jays have hit a billions HRs). That division is a MONSTER. Gotta feel for the Orioles. They're like the overweight girl that happens to have four hot friends.

6/11 GT: White Sox @ Cubs - 1:20pm CDT WGN
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Win? Sure that wasn't really in doubt but that's not my point. I really didn't want to see Bobby pitch in this game and with Linebrink going out there with a 5 run lead on a lively day at Wrigley Jenks' eventual appearance became an inevitability. With the way he looks right now I'd prefer to save Bobby for games where he is truly needed, not put his status in doubt for the next few days because Linebrink is incapable of holding a lead and Putz is 100% ready to go. Gotcha. Now I understand where you're coming from.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 05:13 PM) If there are no other options, sure but I can't get behind it when Putz is fresh and ready to go. You have to attempt to limit Jenks and Thornton's innings and pitching Linebrink with the game well within reach is not the way to go about it. This seems like more your personal perception than actual reality. I'm sorry, a 5 run lead with nobody on base in the 9th should be an automatic win 99.9% of the time. Regardless of weather conditions.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) I think we could win 100 games if we were in the NL Central.. We just look like an NL team I'd agree with you if we weren't 3-8 against the Indians.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:51 PM) Except that's kind of what Linebrink does. It's like getting upset with Williams when he allows 2+ baserunners every outing, there's a track record there and you should expect them to follow it. So in other words, sit Linebrink for the rest of the season?

The bats are coming alive. If the SP gets its act together, the capability is there to run off a pretty nice streak. Won't get my hopes up.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Take that again, Bobby haters. He is one of the best. Jake awesome! Bobby. Rios. Paulie. AJP. Nice win. Not even close. But he's having a great June.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) Personally, I go with a decent reliever who hasn't pitched much of late like Putz to avoid turning a blowout into a save opportunity. I can see that line of thinking. But I can't get on Ozzie in this case. That's all Linebrink refusing to throw a f***ing strike.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:46 PM) I am. Jenks is unreliable. If you can't bring in Jenks in this spot then you release him immediately.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 04:37 PM) LOL, yeah, right. You've been paying attention to sports for how long? First of all, Tracy McGrady got what, $20 million last year to do nothing? Eddy Curry? Baseball players, Mike Hampton? Carl Pavano and his $10 million/start contract? Or should I go to the world of business, where people collect billions for running companies into the ground. lol. You need to stop.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 11, 2010 -> 01:07 PM) Stone criticized Lou for how he's using Colvin. I actually agree with Lou here. Who out of Soriano (.898 OPS), Byrd (.910 OPS), and Fukudome (.843 OPS) is he supposed to regularly sit for Colvin?

Carlos Santana has arrived. http://www.sbnation.com/2010/6/11/1512745/...ndians-baseball If this kid turns out to be as good as he's supposed to be, Shapiro will have pulled off one of the biggest steals of the last 10 years.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) $7.5M and he can only pitch under one very specific scenario and even then you can only be comfortable putting him out there with a 3 run lead. There are teams out there that pay similar money to their closer that do not have this problem, they don't s*** the bed when there's not save to be made. God I hate arguing this. Think about all the closers in baseball right now (and in some cases the last couple years ) outperforming Jenks at nowhere near the cost. Matt Capps, Jon Rauch, Matt Lindstrom, Leo Nunez, Neftali Feliz, Heath Bell, Ryan Franklin. I'm sure there's a few more I'm forgetting. Point is that finding competent closers is not really all that difficult (at least it shouldn't be). I'm not trying to rag on Bobby. He's just dead weight for what he's making.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) So Kobe's made some pretty awful plays in the clutch this series. He's done that all playoffs for the most part. Gasol and Artest bailed him out against the Thunder and Suns.

TCQ's batting stance
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 09:58 AM) If I had to make an excuse for him, it would be that he was out for practically a whole season. He's not exactly a veteran where an extended time off doesn't hurt as much. And that's a pretty lame excuse. What's Beckham's excuse? That he was rushed? What's Peavy's excuse? I know, I know. It's all Ozzie and Kenny's fault.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) Perfect Game rematch today Halladay v Johnson Lived up to the advanced billing. Both pitchers were outstanding, with Johnson being a little bit better. The supply of young, premier SP's in baseball (the NL in particular) seemingly runs on forever.

Day 2 Draft thread
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 04:58 PM) Sale was a great steal. After that nothing that stands out (maybe Grimes as a good pick) either way. Nothing offensive in terms of value, no one with big upside or tools. I agree. Didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to sound like a whiner. I fully admit every year that I've never heard of a lot of the guys we end up drafting. Therefore I make it a point to check all around the web to see what those much more knowledgeable (i.e. draft experts) have to say about our drafts. And so far, other than Sale, which most feel was a steal at #13, the consensus is that our draft was pretty underwhelming.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) John Lester has averaged 6.6 IP/start this year. John Danks has averaged 6.4 IP/start. John Lester has averaged 108 pitches per start. John Danks has averaged 108 pitches per start. John Lester has averaged less than 1 out per start more than D1: the pitching Danks this year. First of all it's 'Jon'. Secondly, after a rough start in which his ERA was 6.23 and failed to top 5.1 IP in any of his starts through April 23, he's gone on to pitch at least 7 innings in 6 of his last 8 starts (including 5 in a row at one point). And the pitch count comparison doesn't hold much water considering Lester is one of the elite strikeout pitchers in the AL, therefore he's going to run up some pretty high pitch counts.
