  1. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 17, 2010 -> 07:39 PM) If hitting a home run today is going to cut his K% to Yeah, it's going to take a tad more than a couple good games before you can legitimately say JD is turning it around. He's dug himself quite a hole.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 08:00 PM) Paulie is batting .413 in June with 13 RBI. Now if he can get his power up, he'll have a great shot at AL POTM. Wow, that would be wonderful.
  3. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) Someone look out for J4L in case he has a heart attack with all these young guys getting the call. Oh yes, you know me oh so well. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 11:08 PM) Who's next? I'm thinking Jeremy Hellickson or Desmond Jennings. Maybe even both.
  4. Either way, this is most definitely the Celtics last run. It's amazing they've gotten to this point (the ridiculous playoff scheduling certainly helped). But the big three can't consistently get it done anymore. And a small animal dies every time Rondo takes a jumper or FT.
  5. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:27 PM) Many people think he was benefitting from taking them as well. that is why he had the great years in the "steriod era." Who? Yankee fans? I don't recall anything of any substance that's ever linked Pedro to steroids.
  6. Way to show up in the biggest game of the year, Celtics!
  7. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) If he keeps this up all season, it will be. Pedro Martinez in 2000 is still absolutely incredible though. What makes Jimenez more impressive is that he's doing what he is in Colorado. He's amazing. Pedro did his thing at the peak of the steroid era. Pedro's '98-2000 > Ubaldo's '10
  8. QUOTE (G&T @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Boers claims that "his guy" says LeBron is not happy with the Cavs because the owner said they would make a coach decision without LeBron's input. It's not that LeBron wants input, but he doesn't want to be publicly slapped in the face either. Lebron making me hate him more and more each day. But his ego might be what lands him in Chicago.
  9. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 12:42 PM) His FIP is at 4.45 and an xFIP of 4.24. That's the best indicator of future success and according to those numbers you're going to see that ERA come WAY down as the year goes on. The best outlook is Gavin Floyd: 3.80 FIP and 3.97 xFIP. There's been a lot of bad luck with our starters this season, we should be in for a big hot streak. Not when you've only got two legitimate hitters in the lineup.
  10. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 09:37 AM) Alexei Ramirez is a legitimate shortstop. The OPS among all SS's in the MLB is .696. Alexei is at .686 right now and, considering he's eclipsed that in the past two seasons and he's heating up like he normally does, it wouldn't be shocking to see him do it again. He's also solid defensively too. Alexei Ramirez is better than your league average shortstop. Considering what he produces and how much he costs, he's really the least of the Sox concerns. I think many expected more because of his 2008. He's clearly regressed since then (at least offensively). But his saving grace is the ridiculously cheap contract.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 12:22 PM) 6 Ks in 24 AB (25%) over that same stretch. I can live with the Ks if he can provide the OBP/power. Danks, however, looks like a best-case scenario for him would be making a run at Chicago in 2012. This year has really set him back.
  12. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 08:19 PM) KW is the one who talked about needing a lead off hitter for a long time before Pods started working last year, then went out and drafted another High K rate guy to be the CF and leadoff hitter of the future. He pursued Pods and Brett Gardner in the off-season before settling for Pierre. The Sox player development is a joke, the longer guys are here the worse hitters they become. We have a depleted farm system, have bad contracts throughout the ML roster that hamstring the team from making any moves to improve. This is like not true at all.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) As for the player that gets the least with the most amount of talent, I'd have to say B.J. Upton. This is true. But due to his two premium skills, elite caliber speed and defense, he can hit .100 and still have optimum value. Most of the top guys I enjoy watching most have been named. Gotta give some serious love to Elvis Andrus, David Wright, Ryan Zimmerman, Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips, Carlos Gonzalez, Josh Johnson, Joel Zumaya and Neftali Feliz. And Pedro Alvarez immediately makes my top 10 upon call-up. He's going to be the best player from the '08 draft.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 07:27 PM) Rios has been our second best player this season. He's been worth that contract. Jim Thome is making the same amount of money that Mark Kotsay is. The money was there. Second best? I think not. He's been our best player and it's not even close.
  15. Sick of looking at CQ (he makes me want to hurl) and Ramirez. Buehrle can stay because he's Buehrle. Can we get Rios and Danks? Anything but CQ.
  16. QUOTE (bobryansson @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) I know that every one that could have an influence on this has said that it won't happen, but I STILL think it'd be an improvement defensively and stir the pot offensively if Alexei and Gordon swapped positions. I know it's been discussed here ad nauseum, but I couldn't stand to go through this thread without at least mentioning it. How the hell would Gordon playing SS help his offense? And why would you move Alexei from SS, a position that's he's been above average at for the last year+, to 2B? Makes no sense at all.
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) .250/.331/.415/.746 line over the first 1360 PA of his career for A Gordon. And the sad thing is most would be ecstatic if Beckham ended the season with that line.
  18. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) The Lakers better come back to win these 2 at home. The Celtics along with the Red Sox have become my most hated franchise in sports. Someone needs to blow up that whole damn city. The only thing worse for me besides the Lakers winning the title would be the Cubs winning the World Series. I hate Boston sports for the most part. But Celtics >>> Lakers.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:49 PM) Great. Dewitt and Blake will out hit them. Gordon and Beckham will hit .220 between them. Alex has never sniffed the sucktitude over an extended stretch that Beckham has. AG would automatically become our second best player.
  20. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:50 PM) Nice bricks down the stretch Kobe. Hell yes Boston, one more. The Celtics deserve a ton of credit. I thought it was over after game 3.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) I would try trading him for Alex Gordon...who knows how much another team likes him. Your best idea since you've been on this board.
  22. Nope. No overreaction. I agree. We're 2 1/2 months into the season. And he's still performing at below replacement level. Getting Beckham turned around goes WAYYYYYY beyond this season.
  23. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) People jumping on our hitters looking bad in the 9th. Marmol has an insane amount of ability when harnessing it. I tip the cap, cant be shocked w/ our bats the way theyve been this year. WTF are you talking about? Did you see the PK at bat? Nothing to do with how good Marmol is.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) Hawk always talks about thinking you're in control of an at bat and the pitcher is in trouble. That was definitely not the case with PK's at bat. I've had with this team's offensive approach the last 5 years. Yes, EVEN IN 2005!!!
