2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 04:26 PM) 4 IP, walking 6, with 2 WPs, 2 balks, 3 hits and 2 runs. Dontrelle Willis' line from today: 4 IP, 6 BB, 3 H, 2 R, 2 WP, 2 BK I guess a return to AAAA can't even save Willis.

The "Is it over or not?" thread
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:17 AM) No. Kenny is the one who made this garbage roster. His job isn't to get the players Ozzie wants, its to get the BEST 25 players that he can to fill out the roster. If you are going to blame Ozzie, you need to have equal blame on KW as well.. Ozzie isn't the GM, if KW didn't think this roster could get it done he could have done something about it. Now tell us who Kenny should've traded for or signed in place of Peavy, Buehrle, Floyd, Beckham, CQ, A.J., and Ramirez and you'd have a decent argument.

White Sox select Chris Sale with #13 pick in MLB draft
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) Yeah. He'll probably end up being traded. What a downer that would be. Not for the right package.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 03:29 PM) I'd love to see Danks start limiting his pitch counts. This would have been a fun game to see him finish out. That's what's keeping him from entering that upper echelon of LH SPs (i.e. Jon Lester). He's in that second-tier right now.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jun 10, 2010 -> 02:21 AM) He hit a bomb of his own tonight in Cinci and now 7 multi hit in 12. 2/4 so far today. He's currently hitting .455. That, my friends, is what you call instant impact.

And that's a White Sox Blowout!
I'll be shocked if they score more than 2 runs tomorrow.

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:42 PM) While I don't expect him to keep up THIS pace, I do expect him to be this kind of all-around, 5-tool player. He is in the prime of his career and will be for the next 3-4 years. If a player that is exceeding expectations and outperforming his contract is not a player you want to hold on to and build around, I'm not sure what is. Now if you believe we are going to completely rebuild, well, perhaps it is best to trade him because he won't be in his prime anymore by the time your team is ready to compete. But I think we all know that with Jake and Mark being immovable, we're pretty much relegated to the "reload" path, which means Alex is the one guy on offense you can safely build around. Why not? Other than a lower K%, what's Rios doing now that's so above and beyond what he was doing in 2006/2007?

Does AJ get traded this weekend?
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 04:52 PM) AJ is great to have around when the team is winning. When the team blows then he adds nothing as he seems to go through the motions. What guys are great to have around when the team blows?

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:36 PM) I saw a bunch of people saying "yeah but it was just the Pirates, and that's not a major league team, I could strike out about a dozen Pirates if I was having a good day." If that were true then there would've been a bunch of other pitchers who've done this against the Pirates already this year right? But there's not... not even one... Haters are gonna hate. I don't know how anybody could look at his stuff and say to themselves (well it was just the Pirates). I don't mind the hype if it's warranted. It was warranted with Lebron. And it's certainly warranted with Strasburg. He's here and he's here to stay.

Olney: Sox to start trading away vets
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) He should be a damn good offensive player (.365 wOBA) and great defensive player (CF for the next few years, maybe RF at the end of the deal), that's an integral part of a ballclub. If you don't expect him to keep up even that level of production then A.) he should never have been claimed in the first place and B.) we need to go into full rebuilding mode because I don't see a whole lot of building blocks in the organization right now. Personally, I'm only trading him for a package of talent that blows me away. Precisely. I don't know why people act is Rios was acquired as some kinda quick fix.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 05:12 PM) Did you see Ike's walkoff yesterday? Holy cow, he destroyed that! Talk about a guy getting no pub. A solid .817 OPS. He's also played a pretty good 1B going by the metrics.

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:56 PM) And I think they'd be more pissed if he hit the DL next year. So if he gets through this year unscathed the possibility of him ever landing on the DL the rest of his career disappears?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) Joe Mauer. Austin Jackson Brennan Boesch (seriously, again, wtf?) I'm used to Mauer. I was thinking "new wave" guys. Austin Jackson is nice. But not as nice as some of those others stars or soon to be stars.

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) I don't think there is any out for it, and I wouldn't be surprised if Boras's people had been 100% insistent on that. Hypothetically, let's imagine that the Nationals start off the season near .500, and that they keep Stras in the minors for 2 months to save themselves the arb year, so he pitches say, 55.1 innings. The most innings Stras has ever thrown before this year was 128, counting last year's AFL stint (Where, IIRC, some of the Sox minor leaguers actually got to him). He threw 109 in college last year. So, now the Nats call Stras up, he helps pitch them into the playoff hunt, but he comes up on 100 innings. Now he's thrown 150 innings this year, an increase of 22+ from last year, and they've been presumably harder innings (pennant race, MLB level). It's Verducci Effect territory. The only reason that kind of clause would show up in his contract is that Boras's people projected exactly how the season would go, and they knew that the Nats, in a playoff hunt, would have the temptation to Dusty Baker him in order to make their first playoff round in D.C., if they got close at all, and they weren't going to let the team risk his arm on one season. Interesting. Well, they'll be A LOT of pissed off people (mainly Nationals fans) if the difference between making the playoffs and sitting at home came down to an innings limit.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:02 AM) Let me just say that I am ecstatic with the amount of great young talent in the bigs right now. We have so many thing to look forward too: Stephen Strasburg Mike Stanton Jason Heyward Wade Davis Brian Matusz Neftali Feliz Bryce Harper This on top of guys like Lincecum, Ubaldo, Longoria. Oh, and hopefully Gordon Beckham. This is the influx of talent we've been waiting for. Already beat you to it, son (at least when it comes to pitching). http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=76729 This is an amazing time to be a baseball fan (although a s***ty time to be a Sox fan). I'm just glad none of these guys are on the Cubs or anybody from our division.

The Official Stephen Strasburg needs Tommy John Thread
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) No it was good, wasn't saying it wasn't. Just for the sake of a fan watching though, he makes you want more of him when he pitches. I don't think he had more than 80 pitches in a game in the minors so he was on a strict count. I wonder does the innings/pitch count restriction go out the window if the Nationals are legitimately in the playoff hunt? It'd be pretty impossible to justify pigeonholing your best pitcher with a playoff birth in reach.

NBA playoffs thread
Ray Allen is 0/12 from the field. Make that 0/13. Combine that with Paul Pierce's (Mr. the series ain't comin' back to LA) 3/10 and you get 3/23. Pierce needs to dedicate himself more to conditioning. I don't know if it's just his age, but he really looks fat and slow a lot of the time.

06/08/2010 - 7:10 CST, CSN - Floyd vs. Galarraga
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) People forget how good the team was in 2006 during the first half of the season. Those games vs the NL were magical. I was having more fun in 2006 than 2005. When Gooch hit that slam off Lidge to tie the game at 9 when we had been down 9-1 I think I screamed louder than when Konerko hit the slam off Qualls.

06/08/2010 - 7:10 CST, CSN - Floyd vs. Galarraga
I will say one thing, at least this team isn't teasing us. They've been horses*** from day 1. I give them props for that. I'm still not over 2003 and 2006.

06/08/2010 - 7:10 CST, CSN - Floyd vs. Galarraga
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:30 PM) Has anyone ever played MVP Baseball 2005 As Zach Greinke on the easiest difficulty level? Strasburg was like that tonight. Tonight and Scherzer's 14 K game against the A's have been easily the two best pitching performances I've witnessed this season.

06/08/2010 - 7:10 CST, CSN - Floyd vs. Galarraga
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Oh shut up, it's important to win so that the 5,000k in attendance in August are happy! They could lose every game the rest of the way, and it would be the best thing that could happen. I realize you're joking. But ain't nothing more annoying to me than a .500 (or a few games above or under) season. I remember in 2002 we were 12-15 games below .500 all year before a dumbass hot final month (led by Joe Crede) saw us finish the season at 81-81. I remember Hawk saying something like "You know, with the way the team has played this final month, this season to me has been saved." I wanted to jump through the TV and decapitate his ass when he said that stupid ass s***.
