  1. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Exciting time to be a Sox fan with big changes on the near horizon. We all talk about restocking the farm even while knowing our GM loves to send kids packing. So not through your eyes, but through Kenny's; who would you sacrifice a bunch of kids for? Any players not typically thought of as available? Like somebody else's Danks, Beckham etc. The man in my sig.
  2. I almost threw up in my mouth. I saw "Austin" and thought the Astros of all teams took him.
  3. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:49 AM) Its not about Wilson as much as it is about improving, a bullpen guy isnt worth a second round pick. We tried that with Drew O'Neill who is still toiling away. I like the pick of Sale, though his delivery makes me a little apprehensive, but Petricka is not a guy that is going to improve the depth of the organization significantly. Minor league bullpen guys do not hold a lot of value when trying to improve a major league club. Agreed.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) The Yankees are having a bizzare draft. They might be saving their loot for Cliff Lee.
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) There goes DD to the Rays. Great Pick. I had no idea the Rays had so many picks.
  6. Wow, I thought the Phillies would take Wilson here. I guess I'll shut up about Wilson. He's obviously going to college.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Giants grap Parker. His stock fell pretty damn hard this year, but he's got talent. Yeah, many thought he had top 10 pick potential at the end of last year.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:31 AM) I'm having a hard time complaining about our draft so far. We didn't take Wilson, big deal! Neither has every other team right now, which makes me think he's made it obvious he won't be signing anywhere. I agree with this to a point. But for such a talent-starved organization, Wilson would've been so nice. I wish we were as aggressive in the draft as we are when it comes to chasing washed up vets that we've had our eyes on for years.
  9. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:30 AM) Sox go for signability over talent while the other teams in the division do the opposite. Cleveland, KC and Detroit take Washington, Eibner and Castellanos and we get a bullpen guy. Very disappointing after a terrific start to the draft last night.
  10. QUOTE (Fantl916 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:24 AM) Austin Wilson please! I'll be pissed if he goes in this round.
  11. I wanted no part of Workman at #13. At #57? Total steal.
  12. lol@the Red Sox. My god.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) Damn, there goes Levon Washington. Great tools guy for the Indians. Wow. The Indians farm gets even more loaded.
  14. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:17 AM) No doubt. They should be fun to watch in the future. I think I read they've spent the most money in the draft since 2008. They're really committed to the farm now.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:14 AM) Pirates grab Alllie. He and Tallion are going to be a great shot in the arm for that system. That teams looks to be FINALLY headed in the right direction.
  16. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 03:37 AM) Kevin Millwood, Kyle Davies, and Gavin Floyd Maybe there should be a criteria. Millwood did have a better year in 2005 (his first year in the AL) than 2004 (his last year in the NL). But clearly his best years came while in the NL. Davies has sucked in both leagues save 2008. Not really a good example. I don't think Gavin Floyd is valid. He had about 20 total starts in three years in the NL. I'm talking guys that were average or even below average in the NL over multiple seasons and then made the switch to the AL and got considerably better. In the last two years alone we've seen Brad Penny, John Smoltz, Jon Garland and Carlos Silva go from replacement level in the AL to #3 starter caliber in the NL. I think will be able to add Dontrelle Willis to that list, as he just recently tossed 6 shutout innings in his first start in the NL.
  17. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:09 PM) Some people take the AL vs. NL comparisons way too far. Yes, the AL is better, like NorthSide has said, but not infinitely better where a good NL pitcher will become absolute crap every time he comes to the AL and vice versa. Really? Can you name 3 pitchers over the last 5 years who went from the NL to the AL and their numbers got better?
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) Tampa took 3 great offensive talents I don't know jack about Drew whatever his last name is. So that's why I just threw Toronto and Boston out there.
  19. I'd say the Blue Jays and Red Sox had the best Day 1's (not counting teams like the Nationals).
  20. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) The second round is going to be a blast. A lot of huge names are still in play. I will dream about Austin Wilson tonight. I will hold out hope as long as he's available.
  21. Cardinals with another steal.
  22. I can't believe some of the names still on the board. Sox have a chance to get a real stud in round 2.
  23. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) I don't think he would be moved off starting initially. Either way, his ETA isn't anytime soon. Oh I'm sure whatever team takes him will try him as a starter first. He just seems destined for the bullpen.
  24. Wow, great pick by the Rockies.
