  1. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 12:39 AM) Cox or Choice would be fantastic. Brentz is quite overrated imo. I totally agree. The competition he sees is pretty weak.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 11:30 PM) I disagree soo much. Look how long it took us to finally get a competent CF out there. Not only does he have power, but he has the speed and defense for CF. I would file Rios under UNTOUCHABLE, along with Beckham. Everyone else is expendable, really. f***ing tell me about it. Think about all the "Ozzie should be fired" rants simply from starting Wise in CF. Now we've got one of the best all-around CFs in the game and it's time to trade him? Makes awesome sense.
  3. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) I guess you're not as old school as you thought you were since you're rarely around to follow the games. I don't get it?
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) And it's not like Chipper has been his usual great self this year. I'm not really sure how they're winning, but Billy Wagner has to be one of the biggest freaks to ever play baseball. I mean that in the talented way, and not the scary way. Chipper is basically the 2005 version of Jeff Bagwell. The Braves are winning with really good starting pitching and a rejuvenated offense (led by Glaus). Wagner is one of the best closers I've ever seen when healthy. I'll never forget the year, I think it was 2003, when the Astros had Wagner, Lidge and Dotel. Filthiest bullpen trio I can remember.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 09:17 PM) Not a chance in hell anyone could guess NL batting average leader going into today unless they looked at the league leader list. I knew it. But that's only because of fantasy baseball. The Braves are getting premium production from a bevy of guys who you didn't expect it from (Prado, Hinske, Glaus).
  6. Juan Pierre is a bad baseball player.
  7. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) That's 2 perfect innings.....only 7 more for Jake to put his name in the record books. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) Perfect game is about as rare these days as someone getting busted for public masturbation at an adult video store. The words "perfect game" make me want to barf.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) Or taken Alvarez to put him at 1B when Pena leaves? Indeed. But it's next to impossible to really criticize Tampa's scouting/drafting the last 5+ years. But adding Posey/Alvarez to the core they already have in place would be devastating. A Braves-like run would be a foregone conclusion. Hopefully (for their sakes) Beckham pans out.
  9. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 04:35 PM) Just remember when Beckham was called up last year he was sexy up here too. The ol' "sophomore slump" is where we will see if Posey can handle. Could you imagine if Tampa had taken Posey instead of Beckham? My god.
  10. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 11:15 AM) Buster Posey 11-23 so far this season Makes Beckham's season-long suckfest even more discombobulating.
  11. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 09:38 PM) These could be the least exciting cub sox series ever. Ronny Paulion was 0-7 but he hada 4.03 ERA. He's MUCH better than his record suggests. He's got some pretty filthy stuff.
  12. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 12:29 AM) What? Make that a double what?
  13. No more Mr. positive for me. This team is absolutely a despicable joke. There's plenty of blame to go around for everybody. This organization is in complete disarray.
  14. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 08:54 AM) Stark I hope he's right. If some GM out there thinks Jenks can perform at a reasonably high level and we can in turn get a solid package, awesome.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) Hell if someone was willing to pay me $5.5 million, there is no way I'd be retiring. Touche. And the dumbass teams that insist on wasting money on a walking injury deserve what they get (although the Yankees obviously won't have a problem absorbing the wasted money).
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 03:39 PM) IMO, yes. Phegley as well. Phegley means nothing to me. That was a garbage pick. Maybe a move to 1B is in order for Flowers.
  17. Grandal? Where did the hell did this come from? I think he's a stud. I just never thought he'd be on the Sox radar. Would drafting him speak volumes negatively towards the long-term future of Flowers?
  18. I love the draft headline over at Whitesox.com: "White Sox never ones to play it safe early." lmao. Scott Merkin is a f***ing idiot.
  19. Looks like Brett Anderson could be done for the year. http://www.sbnation.com/2010/6/4/1501659/b...-injury-oakland Huge blow for the A's.
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) From Heyman: Johnson really needs to retire. It's just not meant to be for some guys.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:48 AM) This is a really odd draft. Last year a lot of us wanted Rex Brothers, while it was pretty clear that the organization was heading in the Jared Mitchell direction. This year it's up in the air. If we're going to take a "safe" pitcher, i want Workman. If we're going for a bat, i want Castellanos. I really wanted Brothers. But not in the first round. Looks like he's going the route of set-up man, closer. You don't use first round picks on relievers. I don't care how talented they are.
  22. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) That’s what I meant when i sad that the 2005 World Series was both the best and worst thing that could ever happen to this franchise. It was incredible and I wouldn’t trade it for the entire world, but it made this organization far too willing to make excuses for the guys in charge. And the way we've become obsessed with taking on reclamation projects and putting faith in guys who haven't done s*** for years. It worked in 2005. But that was an outlier. That's no way to build towards a sustained run of success. It'd be nice to go into a season not praying for bounce back or career years from half the roster.
  23. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) I must have forgotten those two instances. It just seems that you enjoy bashing the Sox to the point where you'd almost rather see them lose just so you have something negative to say. But hey, maybe it's just me. Right theory, wrong poster. There's definitely a few around here that I think get a kick out of the Sox struggles. But fathom ain't one of them.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Not referring to Kite, but it's been amazing to see those that at the beginning of the season state they were optimistic because Ozzie finally has "his team" backtrack from that and try to blame KW for the roster. You could threaten to cut my arms and legs off and I will never say winning it all in 2005 was a bad thing. But I think the way we won it has ultimately turned out to he the death of this franchise (for the moment).
  25. I will say this much, you guys have gotten me pretty amped up (although I ultimately expect to be disappointed) for Monday. Nice to have something to look forward to with the way the team is performing. Good conversation all-around.
