Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 10:49 AM) I assume you think 9/11 was a conspiracy as well. This was Kenny's team with Reinsdorf's budget. I doubt Ozzie wanted Teahan, Vasquel and Pierre. Ozzie wants a certain mold but definitely NOT these guys. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws This was Ozzie's baby from day 1. He deserves a pretty decent sized chunk of the blame for what's taken place so far.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) Shocking. You dislike someone the White Sox are interested in. Even if they ended up with Bryce Harper you'd probbaly find a way to b**** about it. Like it or not, Sox fans are going to be skeptical when it comes to the draft. And they have every right to be. This organization, along with the Astros, have been the two most inept in every way imaginable the last 10+ years in this department.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 08:13 AM) That pitch...was a 99 mph fastball. That was from the Monday "showdown" vs Lincecum. That was truly an unhittable pitch. Whomever it was that scouted and ultimately got this kid signed deserves job security for life.

If this is the best Boston has to offer then this series is over in 4. Paul Pierce looks fat and slow. KG looks like he's about 45. They're getting outplayed every way imaginable. Makes you wonder how overrated the Cavs and Magic really were. Like I said a couple weeks ago, one can only hope that Lebron is looking at Kobe's current situation and absolutely seething.

Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 06:40 PM) If you've been a fan through all those bad seasons then you should be quite accustomed to pissed off fans who feel ripped off and/or hurt by the organization saying they're quitting the team. However, very few people who are fans enough to post here ever will quit the team. I know this. Which is why I find it extra annoying when multiple posts/threads are made declaring their White Sox fandom over. I have no sympathy whatsoever to those who even talk about, let alone actually commit, the cowardly act of suicide. But I will concede that was a bad analogy. No, you're not going to justify to me excessive whining "I'm done with this team," ect, because this is a message board and it's OK to act that way. Do you have the right to? Sure. But don't act like the only reason or main reason message boards exist is to b****, moan, whine, cry, whatever, when things aren't going well.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 09:41 PM) He hit a home run. That's good, right? You said "came on" strong. He's been one of the best players in baseball all year.

I have no idea how the Celtics are only down 4. They look as bad as they did the last 20 games of the regular season.

The Celtics look awful. The Lakers MVP for the first quarter was Tony Allen.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) Dave Trembley is on the chopping block. Classic case of you can't replace 25 players so blame the manager. That roster has been deplorable. Led by Matt Wieters and Adam Jones, who have both been massive disappointments.

BECKHAM IS BACK
QUOTE (heirdog @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) Was it all of the media and community work the Sox made him do/ he chose to do over the summer? It just seems like he was thrust onto the spotlight so quickly and he had slightly better numbers (worse HRs) than Josh Fields in his break-out half-season. I still think Beckham will be good but the biggest concern I have is the K rate. Even if he's hitting below the Mendoza line, he always seemed like a guy that got the bat on the ball. Last year, I was amazed at how often he made solid contact but never expected what we've seen this year. Beckham's '09 was considerably better than Fields' '07. That said, Gordon has been one of the worst every day players in baseball. I was one that was worried about all the pre-season hype. But I assumed like most it wouldn't really bother him. I do believe 100% that Beckham will overcome this and become a staple at 2B for the next 10 years.

This is shaping up to be one hell of a race for the AL MVP. Morneau, Longoria, Cabrera, Cano. You could make a case for any of those four right now and look pretty damn smart.

Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 01:36 PM) I think his main point is simply that you have to suffer through the bad times to really appreciate the great times. I watch them every chance I get. That's not to say that I am any better of a fan than anyone else for doing so. It's just my way of being a fan. Everyone has their own way of coping. That's pretty much it. I just can't subscribe to "I'm quitting" the Sox. I mean for how long? Until they get good again? Then acknowledge you're a bandwagoner and leave it at that. Isn't that the exact definition of a bandwagoner? And to answer caufield's question, my first game was in 1991 against the Blue Jays. For me, the strike and the '95 season that followed was the most trying time to be a Sox fan. The organization was in total disarray after looking like a potential powerhouse. But I never once "quit" on the team. Does that mean I've never turned a game off in which we're getting our asses kicked early? Of course not. Does that mean I've never turned to something else, whether it be another sporting event or some random TV show, if the Sox are 12 games out with 20 to go? Of course not. Have I ever bypassed going to a Sox game for something else because the team was bad? You better believe it. But there's a big difference between that and making claims (which most people never follow through on anyway) that they're "quitting" the White Sox. This is probably a bad analogy, but it's like those who talk about suicide before doing it. Those that make it known have no intention of doing it but are just looking for attention. If you're gonna off yourself, do it. Don't talk about it. That was my point to Shipps.

I guess I'm just old-school in that you stick by your team no matter what. What made 2005 so special for so many was that it was so out of the ordinary from what we as Sox fans had been accustomed to. When the Sox won it all in '05, I immediately thought back to the '94 strike and the absolute disaster that was 1995 that followed. If I had just abandoned ship after that year and came back in 2005, there would be no authenticity or essence. No legitimate emotion. That's what makes winning championships so f***ing sweet (from a fan perspective).

Joe Cowley says our season is over: do you agree?
QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) Why would it get locked? I am the all powerful and I need to vent.... You are stuck with me and you have no choice. Its not like I am some peace of meat you could just stop eating... its not that easy. No offense, but if you choose to "quit" go ahead and do it. No need to announce it on a message board. I realize emotions play a role in being a fan of any sport or team. But I have no sympathy for emotional, soap opera, drivel such as this. I'd have a lot more respect (not saying this is the case with you) if somebody just came out and said "Hey, I jumped on the bandwagon in 2005. The team sucks now. So I don't want to follow them anymore." That's direct, honest and to the point.

Hitters are stupid.
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) This isn't remotely close to true. League batting averages: 2010- .258 2009- .262 2008- .264 2007- .268 2006- .269 (keep in mind this next set is from the peak of the steroid era) 2000- .270 1999- .271 1998- .266 1997- .267 1996- .270 1990- .258 1989- .254 1988- .254 1987- .263 1986- .258 1959- .257 1956-58- .258 1955- .259 1954- .261 1953- .264 1952- .253 1951- .261 1950- .266 1948-49- .263 1947- .261 1946- .256 1945- .260 1944- .260 1943- .253 1942- .253 1941- .262 I guess there were plenty of "stupid hitters" in those eras too. I wish I wasn't so lazy. I was thinking of searching for something like this. I don't buy a "hitters became stupid" in 2010 theory one bit.

Ken Griffey, Jr Retires
QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 08:58 AM) Griff is one of those players that younger fans will never understand just how good he really was in his prime because of how he played after leaving Seattle. Had he not had all his injury problems after going to Cinci, he would have shattered the HR Record. I blame one of the most hideous looking baseball stadiums I've seen in my baseball fan lifetime: The Kingdome. And they've been showing highlights throughout Griffey's career on MLB Network. Breathtaking.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Hmmm. Rendon was well known and highly thought of in 2008, but just had a strong Rice commitment. The Braves took a late flyer on him in the off chance that he decided to sign, but obviously that didn't happen. I wouldn't call it a great scouting job on behalf of the Braves. That said, the Braves have done a great job scouting latin America recently with arms such as Julio Teheran (2nd best pitching prospect in the minors right now for my money), Randall Delgado and Robinson Lopez coming through the system. Not to mention Neftali Feliz and Elvis Andrus (although they foolishly traded them for a rental).

Galarraga perfect game broken up by umpire
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 01:37 AM) This is what I don't get, you are going to get onto me for not liking non White Sox baseball yet when the Sox are suppose to be your team and they are not out of it by any means, regardless of how much they stink right now, the season is all but over for you.. Were only 5 games back of Detroit, so yes, I do fully believe that we could pass them.. will we catch the Twins? Probably not, but I think we could pass Detroit.. lol. Calm down. All I said was that I felt sorry for you because you're missing out on a lot. But you've made it clear you're a Sox fan only and not really a baseball fan. So that's fine. And honestly, I don't think we can catch Detroit. I was/am the most positive person on this entire board. But I think 50+ games is more than enough to get a good idea on what kind of team you have. I don't have to wait until the Sox are 12 games out with 20 to play to realize it's probably not meant to be. Now with that said, I will continue to support the team. I will continue to watch as many games as I possibly can. And I will always hold out hope. But at this point, I don't expect us to legitimately contend for the division this year. Of course, I'd LOVE to be wrong.

Galarraga perfect game broken up by umpire
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 01:26 AM) I agree with this, though I don't mind the Royals. That's my point. You don't mind the Royals because you don't view them as a threat. Well the Sox are as irrelevant as irrelevant can be. So I don't really care what our rivals do, at least not like I would if we were actually a good team.

Galarraga perfect game broken up by umpire
QUOTE (T R U @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 01:14 AM) Why would you feel sorry for me? Because I don't want to watch a non Sox game because you think those players are exciting? Or the teams? Yup. I agree with this for the most part. But the way things are going, it's not like we're going to sniff the Tigers, let alone the Twins, in the standings. So who really cares?
