2010 AL Central Catch-All
Miguel Cabrera had himself a night. He and Evan Longoria have been the clear-cut best players and leading MVP candidates to this point.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 28, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Kind of what I expect with Harvey as well. I'd be willing to wager a large amount that one of Workman/Wimmers will be the Sox selection. Which would be a worst case scenario. But on the bright side I can get the illusion out of my head that this franchise is committed to the farm.

Cardinals are just fine as long as Carpenter, Wainwright, Pujols and Holliday are healthy. I expect them to win the central with relative ease.

Gordon Beckham: What To Do?
QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 28, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) im willing to stake my baseball rep on him breaking out in the next week or so. He is coming out of it. So your baseball rep takes a hit if Beckham continues to suck?

Ozzie and KW - what will happen?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) Except the middle of the Sox order has destroyed Price in their careers. So not really. That's got to be one extremely small sample size. And Price is a lot better this year anyway.

Pods
QUOTE (BearSox @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) KW, IMO, rushed into things. Instead of waiting to see how the market played out with Pods, he goes and makes a trade for Pierre. However, if he waited a little longer, the Royals would have emerged as the only contender for Pods, and it would have been an easy sign. Maybe a little more expensive than the 2 million he is making this year, but certainly a lot cheaper than the 10 million we owe Pierre for the next year and a half. It's 8 million for this and next year.

Ozzie and KW - what will happen?
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:47 AM) Unless this team falls into a death spiral, no one is going anywhere. Even if that happens, Ozzie is the only one on the hot seat IMO. Do we have to morph into the '03 Tigers before changes are made? Unless there's a big turnaround, we're looking at 4 below .500 seasons in the last 5. Unacceptable. Make that 3 below .500 seasons in the last 4.

Alex Gordon once again obliterating minor league pitching: .375/.519/.688/1.207 in 104 PAs. God I wish the Royals would make up their minds on what they're going to do with him. I'd give up anything outside of Hudson/Flowers.

Ozzie and KW - what will happen?
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 28, 2010 -> 08:34 AM) Really? He's put up a .511 OPS his last 7 days. I was thinking the same thing. He has 1 multi-hit game in his last 10.

Ozzie and KW - what will happen?
I'm undecided. I want to see how this season plays out. I will say that the clock should at least be ticking on both guys (Ozzie considerably more than Kenny). Since the second half of 2006, this team is 293-315. That's simply not getting it done. And it starts at the very top. I would also like to say that I'd like to see a more sabermetric way of thinking when it comes to running an organization. I don't see that ever happening with Ozzie as manager. Like it or not, the game is changing rapidly (and the evolution of sabermetrics is a big part of that). And the Sox are running in quicksand while other teams are blowing right by them.

5/27 Games
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:09 PM) I am pretty sure we have the worst farm system in baseball now. When out of your so-called top six prospects: Hudson, Mitchell, Flowers, Danks, Morel and Viciedo (since there is a clear drop after those six coming into the year) one is having a great year, two solid years, two bad years and one out of the year, you system is going to decrease in the rankings. Add in the s*** we have minus those guys and it's bad. I am not even excited about Hudson or Viciedo because I just view them as White Sox prospects who will come up the majors and suck. Then, either toil in the minors or get traded. LOL. Wow, tell us how you really feel, maggs. QUOTE (daggins @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:51 AM) It's hard to think of a system with less potential impact players, really. Cardinals and D-Backs, Houston and Toronto are close... anyone else? Houston? Yes. Not sure about Toronto. But I wouldn't lump the Cardinals and D-Backs in there with us. If their systems are a little thin right now, it's because they've either graduated or been able to spin off homegrown talent for proven talent. Neither one of those teams have a problem producing talent from within.

Joe West has an agenda
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 28, 2010 -> 02:01 AM) Joe West just keeps digging himself a hole..... http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=5225554 You can hear his 11 minute interview on 670 The Score, and at around the 2:30 mark he starts talking about how he did not want to eject Buehrle because he is a fast working pitcher....... "As soon as I kicked him out of the game I was thinkin, "Aww, this is great, now how long is this game going to take?", so you know, we aren't looking to kick him out of the game" Seriously Joe? You ACTUALLY think to yourself that you shouldn't eject a guy because he makes the game go by quicker? Wow. He is just scum. I wonder how many plays he calls the guy out just so the game does not take too long.... lol. Are you serious? Any criticism Joe West deserves most certainly doesn't come from that quote.

5/27 GT: Sox @ Tampa Bay - 6:10pm CDT
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ May 27, 2010 -> 12:20 PM) It would certainly be nice if JP went out and DOMINATED the Rays on Sunday and was the stud pitcher that we all thought he would be. This is a very unusual post considering this is a Thursday gamethread.

May Catch All White Sox Thread
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 27, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) And most managers aren't polarizing so you than have a wide variety of guys willing to play for you. This is a pretty damning article. I guarantee one or two of those agents is whomever represents Bmac and Brian Anderson. No, it's really not. Unless you're the Yankees, Red Sox or Mets, you're not getting the big time free agents. And wasn't it believed that one of the reasons Peavy rejected the first trade was because he didn't want to play for Ozzie? Yeah.

QUOTE (iamshack @ May 27, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) Oh give me a break. Ozzie is a polarizing figure. There are simply going to be those that love him, and those that hate him. And lol@Ozzie having anything to do with scaring off potential free agents. There's this thing called money. And the Sox don't spend it on elite free agents.

QUOTE (chw42 @ May 27, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) You still can't ignore the combined UZR of +24 over the past two years though. Regardless of where it's at. Plus, he'd fit in real well in LF for this team right now. He still ain't no Franklin Gutierrez. Outside of prime Andruw Jones and a couple years from Torri Hunter in the early 2000's, ain't no OF the caliber of Franklin. But I agree that Sweeney would be a welcome addition in LF right now. That Swisher trade makes me sicker everyday.

NBA playoffs thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 27, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) Dwyane Wade questions Bulls' loyalty towards their ex-players. No word yet on whether or not Ex-Bulls John Paxson and Randy Brown agree with Wade that ex-Bulls aren't part of the organization. LOL. Not to mention Bill Cartwright. Wade is obviously talking out his ass. If you don't want to come to Chicago, just say so. And his obsession with Michael Jordan is only trumped by Kobe's.

5/26 GT: Sox @ Cleveland - 11:05am
QUOTE (Real @ May 26, 2010 -> 08:57 PM) 6 back, and just when you think we're gonna go on a roll, in comes TAMPA BAY. The best team in baseball. Ha! The Red Sox just swept them. They're due for a slump. I'll be elated with a split. 3/4 and a parade would be justified.

2010 MLB Catch-All Thread
I've run out of adjectives to describe Ubaldo Jimenez. 8 more shutout innings against arguably the best offense in the NL (not saying much, but Arizona is legit). You know you've been good when we're nearly two months in and you're the clear front-runner for the CY in a league that sports Halladay and Lincecum.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:33 PM) S. Strasburg to make his debut against the Pirates on the Nationals next home stand. Already circled June 8th on my calender a couple weeks ago. This is going to be one of those "remember where you were" when Stephen Strasburg made his big league debut moments.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE (qwerty @ May 26, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) You can take positives and negatives away from pretty much every game ever played. It's unfair to reserve judgment only for losses. That is a terrible mindset. Being level headed is the way to go, a happy medium if you will. But no, you rather go all out after a loss, ranting and raving, hating on whoever is your whipping boy(s) is at the time... while rarely giving credit to anyone who deserves it. If you do give credit in a loss it's to about one player. I would be in agreement that not many deserve credit this season. But it's not about just this season. This has been going on since the beginning of time. You have certain players that you rag on consistently and do everything in your power to stay consistent with your views. No matter how irrational it may be. Nothing changes your mind. Ever. But whenever someone even remotely criticizes a favorite of yours you throw a s*** fit? How i see it you are stuck in your ways i'm afraid. Jenks has been nothing short of brutal, despite the saves, everything indicates such. Jenks has purely gotten lucky to get a save in 7 of 8. He has only thrown 56% of first pitches for strikes, down 7% from his career totals. He is also down 3% in overall strike percentage. To put it simple every single one of following stats (which i realize is foreign to you) is either up or down from his career percentages... O-Swing% - Z-Swing% - Swing% - O-Contact% -Z-Contact% -Contact% Zone% - F-Strike% - SwStr%. Everyone of those stats are also up from his 2009 season other than a measly 0.2% @ O-Swing%. A grand total of 0 pitches that he throws has gone for a positive value this season. Jenks has gotten smoked, as 26% of his pitches have been hit for line drives, while 19% is roughly league average. Something has to be done, as this has been occurring now since the second half of last season. Bobby jenks did not start pitching terrible overnight. A move has to be made, no questions asked. Whether a move is made for the short term or long term i don't care. He might figure things out in another role, then again he might not. All that i know is he is no longer deserving of his role which is so vital to this teams success.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ May 26, 2010 -> 06:34 PM) If we select a pitcher he better be special. I don't want to see another Lance Broadway type pitcher again with this type of pick. No maxes out at 91 RH which means really throws 89 and gets rocked type pitcher. The only type of pitcher they should select with this is a game changer. The later rounds are where you can stock up on Broadways. I'll take special as you mean he better not be a safe, low-risk guy (i.e. cheap sign). And I couldn't agree more. Wimmers would be a horrible pick at #13. Stetson Allie would be wonderful at #13 should we go pitcher.
