  1. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ May 23, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) I was just thinking about him a week or two ago for some reason. This sucks. RIP. You were thinking about his wife. It's cool. I've thought about her everyday for the last 6 years.
  2. As a diehard Blackhawks fan for the last 15 years....lmao. nm. I couldn't even post this without laughing. Congrats to the true hockey fans.
  3. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 23, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) Can Jose Bautista be 2010's Ben Zobrist? Utility guy, gets power out of nowhere, etc. It always seems like that Blue Jay team just has hitters that go out of their mind. Last year, it was Lind and Hill. Now it's Bautista and Gonzalez. You can add Wells in there too. There's no in-between with the Jays. They're either going to double/HR you to death or K. They're like half Albert Pujols half Chris Davis.
  4. Edwin Encarnacion just hit his 5th HR in the last 3 days. Jose Bautista hit his 14th HR (tied with Konerko for the major league lead). And I suggest anybody who really, really likes offense to start watching more Arizona games. Chase field has become the new Coors.
  5. Today's disaster pretty much doused any momentum gained from the last two games. Would've been nice to sweep and hopefully get 2/3 from Cleveland before having to play the '27 Yankees.
  6. Good article at BP about tools over statistics when it comes to drafting. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=10931 Please, please, please let us take this guy!
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 22, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) Jenks, and it isn't even close. How quickly we forget. '05 Jenks was basically current Jonathan Broxton with a devastating curve instead of a slider.
  8. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 22, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) He just never cared about basketball as much as some others. Vince put other stuff in his life before basketball like family, education etc, which made him a very good person, but a guy that never would reach his potential as a player. However, Orlando has much bigger programs than just Vince. Rashard Lewis disappeared, Jameer Nelson had no chance against Rondo, Dwight Howard still has no post moves. Changing one or two players isn't going to make Orlando tough, or a defensive minded team. UNC has a freshmen coming in next year in Harrison Barnes that has the Vince Carter type talent, but the MJ/Kobe work ethic. He's going to be a treat to watch. I don't know about the MJ/Kobe work ethic (not disputing what you're saying. I really have no clue). But he will indeed be a treat to watch.
  9. Van Gundy just said something that made sense. Vince Carter with Kobe's work ethic, drive and competitive fire would have about 4 MVPs right now. It's a shame that he never came close to maxing out that limitless potential he had in the early 2000's.
  10. QUOTE (T R U @ May 22, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) Im disgusted with Orlando right now, but god the Celtics better beat the Lakers.. 56 points with just over 5 minutes to go. That's boggles the mind. That can't be all Celtics defense. Looks like the Magic just said f*** it.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 22, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) Agreed and most importantly with Perkins, Garnett, Wallace and Davis they actually have the size to go up against that Lakers front line. They're physical and "nasty" as well. That's been the one knock against the Lakers (in particular Gasol) in that they're not a team that likes to mix it up and get physical.
  12. If I'm the Lakers, I'm extremely worried about facing the Celtics right now. The Celtics are the one team in the league that has every single ingredient required to match-up with and beat LA. And I don't know what the hell Fisher/Farmer is going to do with Rondo. Kobe's going to have exert quite a bit of energy defensively. And even with that you're opening the door for Ray Allen to have a big series. A hot/healthy Celtics team was the worst, and most unlikely, scenario for the Lakers.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2010 -> 09:16 PM) make KW and our farm system look any better in your eyes, or do you subscribe to the theory that the NL really is THAT weak? You can also use Clayton Richard, Jon Garland and Jose Contreras to further this argument. Could either Ely or Gio be pitching close to this well with the White Sox, in your opinion? The NL is that weak. But it's still too early to tell definitively at this point. Ely's got a handful of starts. Gio's stuff has never really been in question. The BB rate is what's held him back. Richard at his absolute max is a 4th starter in either league. Garland is a total bi-product of the NL west. Jose is flourishing now that he's a set-up man/closer. He wouldn't be pitching like this as a starter. I think you have to wait for guys like Chris Carter, Brandon Allen and Aaron Poreda to establish themselves, good or bad, before any type of views about the farm could change.
  14. QUOTE (knightni @ May 22, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) Could Stan Van Gundy get fired over the series if they get swept and blown out? No way. The last two years have been arguably the two most successful in franchise history. This has been a rather embarrassing performance, though.
  15. Are the Cubs in Arlington or Wrigley? Jesus. I didn't realize they had a cult following in Texas.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) I just want to say you provide so much to this board with your mentions of baseball not involving the Sox. Thank you! Baseball fan first. Sox second. And the Sox have made it easy for me to follow other teams more closely. QUOTE (knightni @ May 22, 2010 -> 06:24 PM) If only his non-Sox baseball knowledge would help him win in fantasy baseball. Whatever. I'm right behind you in Zoom's league and rising quickly in two others. lol.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) What channel is the NBA game on? It's blocked out on ESPN right now. Huh? It's on by me. And lol@the Magic. Wow.
  18. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ May 22, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) LOL @ Denard Span. Bases loaded, tie game, 2 outs in the bottom of the ninth. He hits a 3-1 pitch deep to right and shoots his arm in the air triumphantly. Corey Hart then goes to the warning track and catches it fairly easily. Span sheepishly tosses his helmet off. I guess they're still not used to playing in that park. That was Delmon Young. Twins win anyway. Wow, Jorge was right. I got my innings mixed up.
  19. Randy Wells...meet the american league. Summertime is near. Good luck to opposing pitchers that have to deal with this Ranger lineup in June, July and August. Looks like I spoke too soon. Wells has recovered to pitch a solid game to this point.
  20. I can't remember a year where so many no-names, scrubs or guy that haven't done anything of note in years have started off so well: Ty Wiggington Jose Bautista Jose Guillen Vernon Wells Kelly Johnson Rod Barajas Alex Gonzalez Jorge Cantu John Buck Casey McGehee None of them will make it as starters, but there's a good chance a few of these guys could be all-stars (and not just because one player from each team is required to go) if they keep this up.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 22, 2010 -> 04:13 PM) To your credit, Jordan you're the one who told me to look out for this. I don't know why i doubted you, but his k-rate is catching up to him in a BIG way. 33% K-rate at AAA is 40%+ at the big league level. And he doesn't have the power/speed combo to offset the Ks. And to think KW was pimping him as an opening day possibility before the season. Nice try, Kenny.
  22. In Gomez's defense, he did admit he was wrong and expected to get plunked today.
  23. It was this exact same day (May 22) that Gavin turned it around and dominated the rest of the way last year. That's kinda scary. Alex Rios has been one of the top 10 players in the AL this year. Bullpen is pitching like it did the first few weeks. CQ and GB are showing signs. Again, until we get to .500 there's nothing to get excited about. But there are some encouraging signs.
  24. QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Who are the rumored teams for Oswalt so far? It would be ironic if he goes to the Reds after dominating them throughout his career. Texas seems like an ideal fit, but I can't see those two teams making a trade. I didn't even realize Roy was having such a good year. I just assumed everybody on that team was replacement level. The Dodgers and Rangers would be perfect fits. It's basically all about how much salary the Astros would pick up.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 22, 2010 -> 12:29 PM) Bah, the Rays are one of the few teams out there that you can genuinely say have had much better draft positioning than we could possibly have dreamed of getting. Guys like Upton, Longoria, Delmon Young (turned into Garza), David Price have been beyond what we could have gone for. Yet there has been plenty of premium talent available to us every year, but for a plethora of different reasons (Boras, cheapness, terrible, terrible scouting) we've come up well short in this department.
