  1. You have to hope Lebron is looking at Kobe and the insane amount of help he has and getting PISSED the f*** off.
  2. Marmol now has 38 Ks in 19 2/3 IP. Disgusting.
  3. Since the Sox got rained out, I'll be peepin' the Rockies/Cubs. I suggest anybody who wants to see an electric, 5-tool star in the making that you check out Carlos Gonzalez. This guy is the total package.
  4. Am I the only one that forgot about the western conference finals? The playoff scheduling is pathetic. I thought you only got bye weeks in the NFL? I don't even remember what Nash and Kobe look like.
  5. Cleveland. I'm not going to pretend the Bulls have a legitimate shot. Lebron loves this. It's going to be the great Lebronathon for the next 50 days. He'll thank the Bulls, Knicks, ect for the overwhelming interest, love, respect....Yadda, yadda. And he'll in the end say his heart is in Cleveland and all that stuff.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) I really can't imagine Texas would give up Salty for 4 months of AJP. With that said, Texas has a ton of prospects though that I'm sure the Sox would be happy to take off their hands. And we wouldn't be able to sniff a single one of them for AJP.
  7. QUOTE (hogan873 @ May 17, 2010 -> 06:21 AM) I think the jest of the original post was missed here. No one is happy that another team is doing well when the Sox aren't, but the fact that the Padres are playing well somewhat diminishes the possibility of Gonzalez being dealt. Coupled with the fact that the Sox are playing so poorly, the chances of KW selling the farm for Gonzalez are getting slimmer and slimmer. I know exactly what he meant. And I don't give two s***s about what the Padres are doing. Contrary to Soxtalk belief, Kenny is not a bafoon. He wouldn't trade (and I don't think we have the ammunition anyway) for AG if we're 8-10 games, or even more than that, behind the Twins.
  8. Ecstatic. I haven't been this happy since the World Series clincher.
  9. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 16, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) Aside from seeing what we have in our prospects, I'm looking forward to the draft. The optimist in me is hoping the organization (finally) realizes the importance of a fruitful farm system and ups the draft spending accordingly. Not holding my breath though. This is why I never look forward to the draft.
  10. QUOTE (3E8 @ May 16, 2010 -> 08:21 PM) Gavin Floyd and Jose Contreras, what an apt comparison. One was an aging starter well past his prime making much more than he deserved, another a young pitcher entering what should be his best years signed to a very reasonable deal. According to Fangraphs, Floyd's value to the White Sox has been $30 million across the past two seasons. After today's game, Floyd's BABIP will be close to .400, which, if you're not aware, is abnormally high. It will be the highest or 2nd highest in MLB of any starter. More balls are falling for hits than usual considering the percentage of line drives, fly balls, and grounders he's given up. The BABIP will come back down to earth, as will Floyd's numbers. It would be foolish to give up on him now. But if you want to have a pointless thread to make sure we hate on all our underperforming players evenly in the middle of May, have at it. You were wrong years ago when you said Floyd was worthless, and seem to have trouble letting it go. Wow. 3E8 had no mercy with this post.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 16, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) With all the ripping of the White Sox hitters and deservedly so, how come this guy gets a free pass? It most likely will be the second year in a row he's going to go into June with an ERA hovering around 7.00. Maybe he pitches better later, maybe not, but these games still count. If Jose Contreras put up the same numbers people would have been calling for the White Sox to eat his contract. Gavin has sucked this season. There's essentially 6 players on the entire roster absolved from any blame for this abomination of a season so far: Danks, Thornton, Santos, Konerko, Jones and Rios.
  12. QUOTE (Capn12 @ May 16, 2010 -> 03:36 AM) Thats not entirely true...many of the regulars are highly concerned about the rate we're leaning on Thornton early on, and hope that someone...anyone in the 'pen can be the go to guy while Thornton gets some pseudo-time off. I'm not in every gamethread. But it's pretty common to see a "Ozzie should be fired" anytime a high-leverage situation arouses and Ozzie dare has the audacity to call on somebody other than Thornton.
  13. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ May 16, 2010 -> 01:33 AM) First career save. "Twenty-two years starting games, and now my career is closing games," Contreras said after Saturday's game. "It was a tough situation at that moment, but I was able to save the game. That's the most important thing." He's been filthy good this year: 13.1 IP, 7 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 18 K. His velocity is WAY up now that he can pretty much let it go as a reliever. Brad Lidge just hit the DL. Ryan Madson was already on the DL. So the gig is his. I'm happy for him.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2010 -> 12:18 AM) Peavy is the highest paid player on our team. That's what we got him for... Do you trust Jenks over Peavy in that situation? Not I. And we can't pitch Thornton in 90-100 games, he already was suffering from muscle spasms and it's only mid May. You wouldn't know this according to Soxtalk. Ozzie is supposed to use Thornton in every single high-leverage situation that presents itself. No matter what.
  15. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ May 15, 2010 -> 08:32 PM) They'll be able to hang somewhat, but with Tampa & New York around they won't be doing much. You're probably right. But Toronto certainly isn't going to be a pushover like most expected. That team's got some THUNDER up and down that lineup. They lead all of baseball in 2B, HR and they're 2nd overall in SLG%. Their rotation is one of the most underrated in baseball. I really like this team.
  16. No doubt about it.
  17. Hochevar's got his + stuff tonight.
  18. Anybody want to start a Frank "no doubt about it" tracker?
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) Josh Fields and Jerry Owens were fun to follow the 2nd half that year. Even Wasserman as a rookie. Buehrle had his first no-hitter. None of the first three were fun to watch for me. I guess you can say Javy was fun to watch. Bobby Jenks' consecutive batters sat down was real nice. As bad as this year has been so far, 2007 was A LOT worse.
  20. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:33 PM) Perhaps you haven't noticed but this offense isn't designed to score. It's designed to be flexible for lineup card making for Ozzie. I understood what he meant. He just worded it terribly.
  21. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Worse than 2007 if you ask me. At least there were a few guys worth watching. There's no more than 3 guys on this team I even care to see play. I'd like you to name 3 guys from the '07 team worth watching. Alex Rios and John Danks alone make this team more worth watching over that one.
  22. QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:31 PM) Peavy's ERA is up over 6 again, and the offense is immediately in a seemingly insurmountable lead. Um, OK.
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 15, 2010 -> 07:07 PM) And we are 1-5 against the Indians. What does that say about us? Hell the Cardinals just got swept by Houston. Might as well give the Reds the NL Central title. Sometimes a team just had another team's number during a season. We've played the Twins, Yankees, Blue Jays and Rays. The Cubs haven't played anybody. They've got guys like Byrd, Fukodome, Soto, Silva and Gorzelanny producing WAYYYY above their norms. And they're still 7 games below .500. I'm not trying to argue the Sox are better. They suck. I just don't see how they're any worse than the Cubs when you consider all factors.
  24. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 15, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) I would rather have 6 (though I could say 7, but I would be seriously "hyperboling" it if I included Castro's limited at-bats) guys in my line-up hitting .300+ with a sucky bullpen (minus a couple of guys) that can be fixed in a trade (if the GM was any good) over only 1 guy in my line-up hitting .300+ with half the bullpen sucking and half the rotation sucking anyday. Have you seen who the Cubs have played to this point? Like Balta pointed out, they're 0-5 against the Pirates. They're a very bad baseball team.
