2010 MLB Draft Catch All
Two words: talent infusion. I want Austin Wilson.

Reasons we can catch the Twins
We're not going to catch the Tigers at this rate. Forget about the Twins.

Angels @ White Sox 5/19/10 Game Thread!
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) Agreed, even if it turn out to be a scapegoat someone needs to be held accountable for what's happening with our offense. One guy had a legitimate chance for the MVP; another was 2nd in the ROY voting and the other was basically an overnight sensation last year. I've never seen such a drastic fall by 3 guys on the same team in such a short amount of time.

Angels @ White Sox 5/19/10 Game Thread!
I've seen enough. I'm not really anti-Walker. But a change needs to be made. It's one thing when a career scrub save one season like Mark Teahen sucks. But what's happened to CQ, Ramirez and Beckham is unacceptable.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:33 PM) Hitless game for the bust brothers (Beckham and Quentin) Throw Alexei in there as well. He's regressed big time since 2008.

PK heard me. He's still been pretty bad in May.

QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:25 PM) Linebrink's gotta be the only guy who can throw 8 of 12 pitches for balls and get 3 straight outs. You should watch Brian Fuentes pitch.

Angels @ White Sox 5/19/10 Game Thread!
QUOTE (TitoMB @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:15 PM) This has got to be the worst offense ever assembled in team history. And Konerko and Jones are slowly coming back down to earth. This could get really ugly really fast. I've tried to be as positive as I can be. And there's still a ways to go. But there's a big difference between playing bad baseball and being a team that's not all that talented and playing bad baseball.

How good are The Rays?
This Rays team is the best I've seen in over a decade. I'm sold. And they're JUST NOW starting to hit. Evan Longoria is the best player in the AL. Wade Davis, their 5th starter, has bamboozled the Yankees offense tonight. You could make an argument that all 3 of Price, Garza and Shields should be all-stars. And they've got a guy in Jeremy Hellickson who might be the best pitching prospect in baseball (Strasburg doesn't count. He was never a prospect).

2010 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 19, 2010 -> 09:03 PM) Marmol is absolute filth. I love watching him pitch, which is a shame becasue that usually insures a Cubs win You're only hope, and I mean ONLY hope, is that his control is erratic. Because you're not going to hit him. His BB/9 is over 5 yet his WHIP is only 1.16.

QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:56 PM) Couldn't agree more, I don't know who in their right mind would buy walk-up tickets for a game. I keep switching off between this game and the Rays/Yankees. I've done that a lot this year. In years past I was 100% focused on the Sox game. Only time I'd switch off is during commercial breaks.

5/19 Games
QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:50 PM) Obviously as part of a bigger package, I just don't think he'll hit enough home runs to justify his awful contact rate. I know what you meant. I don't believe Jordan Danks was the hold up in any proposed deal with the Padres. Like I said the other day, I just hope word of his supposed stellar defense has gotten out around the league.

Man this team is so f***ing boring. I don't even really look forward to games anymore (although I watch every pitch of every inning possible).

NBA playoffs thread
QUOTE (Palehosefan @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) I take the same approach with Phoenix as I do with Dallas. "I'll believe it when I see it." No doubt. There's such a massive gap between sexy looking regular season teams and legitimate title contenders. I'm never falling for the Suns crap again. Nash is basically this generations John Stockton.

5/19 Games
QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:11 PM) Jordan Danks is just not a very good hitter. Too bad we didn't trade him last offseason if the Padres valued him. For who? AGon? He would've been gone if that were the case.

I don't know why I fall for the Suns bulls*** every year. Weren't they supposed to be "improved" defensively?

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:28 PM) It's wild how much different baseball is from the NBA. The NBA soon wll be drafting college freshmen (they'd be taking a s***load of high schoolers if they could) with NO minor league system in place for these 18 to 20 year olds. All these high draft picks will be expected to produce immediately in the NBA or be deemed busts. In baseball you have to play minor league ball for many years if you are a high schooler or college aged guy. Very interesting to me how baseball players have to be groomed and never rushed compared to NBA types salivating over drafting guys totally not ready for prime time. Yet there's no minor league for them except the D-League which is a joke, pretty much for non prospects and a place where top draft picks might play a few games a year. I mean, why can't Hudson, Danks, Viciedo play in the bigs now? It's the same ball and bat. You can get by in basketball with premium athleticism. Can you max out your talent on athleticism alone? Nope. But you can get by. Baseball is a totally different animal. Look at Jordan Danks' K-rate in the minors. Now how would he fare against a 98 MPH FB from Verlander followed by that devastating curve? Or maybe a Greinke slider? He'd have no chance.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:16 PM) Really? 2 years ago, 2008, Ryan Braun put up the 9th best OPS in baseball among OF's, Sizemore the 13th. Ahead of them were guys like Manny, Bradley, Ludwick" Holliday, Quentin, Josh Hamilton, Markakis. Ethier, Dye, and Hawpe fit in-between them. Braun isn't exactly what I'd call a defensive legend, do you think of him as that? Now, maybe you could say "Yeah, Hamilton and Quentin are just going to get hurt, Manny is old, Ludwick is a fluke" but that's a lot of guys putting up better numbers than either of them by a lot. Well I was factoring in speed/defense as well. Sizemore was a 7.1 WAR player in 2008. That's pretty damn spectacular, and the only OF with a WAR as high as that in '08 was Carlos Beltran. And I'd take '08 Sizemore over all those guys you named (even when they were all producing). Braun has just been a superstar from day one. The only guys on that list at that time that would be comparable are Holliday (coors factor) and Manny.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:19 AM) I never thought Romero was that good. He was fun to watch in college at Fullerton, but when he went as high as he did, I was pretty surprised since I didn't know if he had enough umph on his fastball to go with that curve he threw in college. He's really done well though. Toronto front office had a lot of issues (internal debate) over that draft pick IIRC. I know this comparison has been thrown around already, but you can't help but see Johan Santana in Romero. This isn't smoke and mirrors. Romero has got legitimate ace stuff. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Now Grady Sizemore, that's a guy who's career has hit a rough patch. Baseball is indeed an odd sport. 2 years ago, the only OF in all of baseball that you could make a legitimate case for being better than Sizemore was Ryan Braun.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:45 AM) Here's the question...if you're the Wizards, and the Lakers could pull it off where you gave them the # 1 pick but you also moved Gilbert Arenas's contract, what else would you want back? Not a damn thing. John Wall is going to be D-rose the sequel. The Lakers have nothing that would entice me.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 19, 2010 -> 08:36 AM) It scares me how much a John Wall for Andrew Bynum + pick deal makes sense. It scares me even more that you think that would make any sense. Andrew Bynum has missed almost 100 games over the last 3 seasons. Even if he wasn't made of glass, he's not a dominating type that you could build your team around. The Lakers got their freebee in Pau Gasol. They're not about to get another one in John Wall.

2010 MLB Draft Catch All
QUOTE (danman31 @ May 19, 2010 -> 12:41 AM) I think the finances are more the leading factor than the upside/safe type player. It's hard to draft a high upside player when you don't have the money to go overslot. High upside guys generally cost more. Don't have or won't spend?
