  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 30, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) The Angels don't have any realistic in-house options. Trumbo has potential, but his k-rate is about as optimistic as Tyler Flowers. Who else do they have? Calling up Hank Conger and moving Napoli to 1b? Robb Quinlan? The Angels have a bunch of toolsy OF and middle IF prospect in-house, most of whom are two to three years away. What they just lost in Morales is what their organization is lacking in-terms of depth. They're between a rock and a hard place. Dealing for Konerko is not out of the question. Not many teams could lose a player the caliber of Kendry Morales and replace them in-house. That's not the point. It's just not nearly as simple as "Gee, we lost Kendry for three months, let's mortgage some of our future for a good, not great, 1B for 2-3 months until Kendry gets back." Of course it's a "possibility." Just not very likely.
  2. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 30, 2010 -> 11:11 AM) The Angels would be dealing from depth and getting a high caliber offensive player in return, no loss for them. Plus, they wouldn't be on the hook for Konerko next year and Morales would be back to full health by then. It's a win-win for them. Again, you're dealing away a good prospect for a 3-month rental due to a freak accident. It's not a win-win for them at all.
  3. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 30, 2010 -> 11:06 AM) More than likely they will, but if they really want an established player to keep them afloat, Konerko would help. Trumbo is blocked longterm anyway, why not make a move? Doesn't matter if he's blocked. It doesn't make any sense for them to go all reactionary and jettison off prospects for a rental. Especially for a guy that wouldn't really put them over the top anyway.
  4. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 30, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) Oh yes we should Konerko is too valuable to this team. We have seen similar moves made by KW really flame out and I think it's time we start valueing our own more than we have. We have a leader and a very good ball player here in Konerkoand he wants to stay in Chicago That's cute and all. And if PK is willing to come back at a significantly reduced contract over a couple years, I'd love to have him back. If he wants to get paid like it's 2006, see ya!
  5. Everything I've read so far points to the Angels going in-house. They're not going to make some crazy, impulsive move (like many already expect) due to a terrible freak accident. Looks like Kendry is going to be out 10-12 weeks. They're just going to have to make due.
  6. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 30, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) Strike while the iron is hot, they need someone to fill in for Morales. The Sox could pull Trumbo and maybe another good prospect for Konerko. I imagine I will get flamed for this. Not happening. The Angels are not going to whore themselves out for a rental. Nor should they.
  7. This has got to be the freakiest of the freak injuries of all-time. Unbelievable. The look of terror on the Angels players faces mere seconds after the pure joy that comes from celebrating a walk-off win is something I won't forget for a long time. I'm not at all comparing what happened yesterday to the Adenhart tragedy. But if you want to talk about curses (not curses of f***ing goats), I'd say the Angels definitely have one hanging over their heads. Terrible.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 30, 2010 -> 12:52 AM) who now happens to be a twat True. But he's one of the best all-around players to ever play the game. His intensity/passion for basketball is right there with MJ's.
  9. Celtics all the way. If only because KG is one of my 5 favorite players of this era.
  10. Congrats to Halladay. But I must say, and this is kinda shocking, the no-hitter/perfect game is losing a little bit of luster. They're occurring at a crazy rate the last few years. I think will see a few more before we see another 20 K game.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) Come on Cardinals, you know you want to give up the farm for Mark Buehrle. With Lohse out for the year and Brad Penny always a threat to not recover, you're going to need two more starters. Problem is their farm might be as bad as ours.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 03:55 PM) I think's he just amped up. He has absolutely no offspeed pitches, and the second time thru the lineup, he's going to have trouble. Good call.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 03:48 PM) 6 of first 8 outs are K's for Silva. Did he even strike out 6 all last season? Make that 7. I give up. Basically, if you have an arm and can throw a baseball 88-90 MPH, you can pitch effectively in the NL.
  14. Toronto with 4 more bombs today. They've hit a whopping 50 this month (85 overall). Watching them is kinda like watching a fast-paced team NBA or college team that just launches 3's all game long. They just go up their hacking. They don't wait. You throw them a FB early in the count, they're swinging.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 29, 2010 -> 12:14 PM) Justin Morneau's OPS is almost 100 points higher than Miguel Cabrera's, and he has played good defense this year (opposed to Cabrera's terrible defense). I'd say Justin Morneau is the leading candidate for MVP, and everyone else is trying to play catchup. You know what, I didn't even realize how disgusting Morneau's numbers were until Kalapse posted in another thread that he's sporting an absurd .494 wOBA. My pick to this point would be Longoria, as he's the best two-way player in the AL on the best team in baseball. But I have no problem with anybody who'd go with Morneau.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 29, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) They really need to do something about that Super-2 rule because it truly has gotten to the point where teams aren't bringing up their best players to retain a year of service. It's stupid and I really don't think it's good for the game at all. Why would you even have a rule like that's so easy to manipulate (and in most cases blatantly so)?
  17. QUOTE (Kalapse @ May 29, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) Alex Rios now has the 2nd highest WAR in the majors, only Justin Morneau and his insane .494 wOBA is ahead of him. I don't want to think about how much more unbearable this year (to this point) would be if not for Rios.
  18. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 29, 2010 -> 11:03 AM) Dont forget Chapman who has been filthy in the minors. I couldn't forget if I tried. Only thing that worries me about Chapman is his control. He's not going to get away with a BB/9 of 5 in the majors. But yeah, the potential of the Reds is tantalizing.
  19. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:47 AM) They have two stud arms coming back to the team soon enough. The Reds are a tough matchup. I'm a huge Homer Bailey fan. Edison Volquez is a major wildcard. If he can be even 75% of what he was in '08 then we're talking. But that's a huge if. As of right now, I have to go with the proven team that features the two best pitchers in the division and best player on the planet.
  20. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:08 AM) I can't wait to see what Stanton does in the pros. He's been absolutely raping in AA. I think you would've had a ROY race for the ages between Heyward/Stanton had he started the season in Florida. OT: Anybody see who Strasburg is in line to face leading up to the all-star break? Assuming no rainouts, ect, he's set up to pitch against the Pirates, Indians, White Sox, Orioles, Braves, Padres and Giants. Wow! This is going to be something special.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ May 29, 2010 -> 12:43 AM) Not by much. As of right now they're considerably better. Lebron ain't here yet.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 29, 2010 -> 09:34 AM) Between having another bat from the LH side finally developed (Votto...seriously, check his numbers, they're better than you'd have imagined) and having developed some legit young pitching, and having reinforcements on the way...don't count the Reds out just yet. I'd feel a lot better about the Reds if Harang didn't completely suck. And I think it's just a matter of time before Leake hits the wall. I like the Reds a lot. I've pimped them (along with the Orioles, who have made me look foolish) quite a bit the last two years. Just not sure they're quite there yet.
  23. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:00 AM) Buster Posey has been called up by the Giants. Expect Carlos Santana, Mike Stanton and some Strasburg guy to soon follow. This time of year is heaven for prospect followers.
  24. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 29, 2010 -> 12:48 AM) Call me a crazy old tradionalist, but I'm not gonna throw all my eggs in one basket with a stat that I doubt many people fully understand. Is WAR a legit stat to look at? Sure. Should it settle all disputes especially in cases where the differences are so minute? Hell no. I know I'm a crazy old tradionalist, but I think people value stats way too much as oppossed to just the basic and fundamental human element to the game. Stats can never take everything into account, it's impossible. When you find a stat that is flawless and undisputable, let me know. That will never happen because there isn't a stat that exists that is flawless. But do we really need stats to determine that Pierre/Pods are roughly the same player? It pretty much comes down to preference. My preference would be neither of them would play for my team.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 28, 2010 -> 11:45 PM) Yes but Rios stunk and even got booed at the Cell. So those who stuck by him deserve some credit I feel. Jphat says thank you.
